Fri Apr 23 201023:29Suppan knocked around by Cubs
Jeff Suppan was knocked around for six runs -- five earned -- over 4 1/3 innings in an 8-1 loss to the Cubs on Friday night.
The Brewers can do better than this sort of mediocrity. Suppan has allowed nine runs on 16 hits over his first 9 1/3 innings this season, good enough for a 8.68 ERA. Simply put, he's just not very good. With a few more starts like this, the Brewers may cut him a $12.5 million check and be done with it. Provided they aren't ready to pull the plug already, Suppan will start against the Pirates next week.
Thu Apr 15 201017:57Brewers' Suppan gives up two homers in return
In his season debut, Jeff Suppan surrendered four runs in five innings Thursday against the Cubs.
It's Suppan's $12 million salary that got him a spot in Milwaukee's rotation. He gave up homers to Derrek Lee and Marlon Byrd in the no-decision today. The Brewers will probably give him another 3-5 starts to prove himself before they consider moving on to Manny Parra or Chris Narveson.
Thu Apr 15 201011:36Suppan activated from disabled list
Brewers activated RHP Jeff Suppan from the 15-day disabled list.
As expected, he'll make the start against the Cubs on Thursday afternoon. Suppan, 35, was placed on the disabled list to begin the season due to cervical disc pain in his neck. He obviously doesn't carry any fantasy value.
Wed Apr 7 201011:24Suppan (neck) to make rehab start on Friday
Jeff Suppan (neck) will make a rehab start for Class A Wisconsin on Friday.
They won't be able to hide the $12.5 million man for long. If all goes well, Suppan figures to be back in the rotation by as soon as next week against the Cubs. With Suppan's return, Chris Narveson and Manny Parra will head to the bullpen.

Tue Apr 6 201019:48Suppan (neck) headed for rehab assignment
Jeff Suppan (neck) is expected to pitch in a minor league rehab game later this week.
Suppan will likely only need one rehab start before returning from the disabled list, which would conceivably place him back in the rotation next week. "He seems to be doing all right," Macha said. "We'll give you all those details tomorrow. We'll see how he comes out of (the rehab start)." Suppan was placed on the disabled list to begin the season due to cervical disc pain in his neck.

Mon Apr 5 201015:19Suppan (neck) expects to return on April 10
Jeff Suppan (neck) expects to return from the disabled list on April 10, the first day that he's eligible.
Suppan threw a successful simulated game over the weekend against minor leaguers. "No problems," he said. "Overall, it felt good. We still have time to let [the neck] calm down, but I have definitely seen improvement." It's not clear what kind of role he will serve when (or if) he's activated later this week.
