Lawrie's absence Saturday is somewhat related to him banging his knee on the bullpen mound in Friday's game, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.
Manager Bob Melvin said Lawrie texted him to let him know he could play Friday, but considering the third baseman has not had a day off this year, it made sense to play it safe. Melvin said they will reevaluate Lawrie prior to Sunday's game, so he should be considered day-to-day for now.

Lawrie is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.
This is the first day off in 2015 for the effusive third baseman. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Max Muncy, who's making his MLB debut. There's a small chance Lawrie is still feeling the hit-by-pitch on his elbow from a week ago, but this is more likely rest.

Lawrie does not report any lingering affects from being hit in the elbow with a pitch Saturday afternoon, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Lawrie took a 99 MPH Yordano Ventura fastball off the elbow Saturday, which eventually led to Ventura's ejection from the contest. Although the third baseman concedes that there is a bit of swelling, the ailment won't keep him out of Sunday's lineup. Lawrie is likely due for a day off in the near future, however, as he's started 12 straight games at the hot corner for manager Bob Melvin.

Lawrie was awful on Tuesday night, going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on a grand total of 12 pitches.
After a first pitch fastball in his first at-bat, Lawrie saw 11 consecutive breaking balls and he mixed in watching some and flailing at others. This was not the start Lawrie hoped for in his new digs, but he will look to get untracked with his new squad on Wednesday.
Wed Mar 25 201512:12Lawrie back in lineup on Thursday
Lawrie is back in the lineup on Thursday.
Lawrie missed the last two games with that the team called general soreness, but he is back and it appears the team was being cautious with him in the spring.
Tue Mar 24 201513:18Lawrie (general soreness) held out again Tuesday
Lawrie (general soreness) was held out again Tuesday, but is slated to return to the lineup Wednesday, the Bay Area News Group's John Hickey reports.
The A's have been incredibly cautious with both Brett Lawrie and Coco Crisp so far in camp, given both player's injury history. It would be foolish to expect Lawrie to play in 150-160 games this year, but if he can play in 130-150 games, he could easily outperform his current status as a late-round pick in mixed leagues.
Mon Mar 23 201512:34Lawrie scratched from Monday's game with general soreness
Lawrie was scratched from Monday's game with general soreness, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.
He participated in a lot of defensive work Sunday, which is where the soreness stems from. Lawrie is expected to get back in the lineup Tuesday and assuming that happens he should be considered fine moving forward.
Fri Jan 16 201517:54Lawrie agreed to one-year
Lawrie agreed to a one-year, $1.925 million contract with the Athletics on Friday, Mike Perchick of WAPT reports.
Lawrie also has incentives involved in his contract to his injury history, but will make a solid chunk of change as a baseline. The 24-year-old played in just 70 games last season, postin a .247/.301/.421 batting line with 12 home runs and 38 RBI. He figures to serve as the A's starting third baseman in 2015, taking the place of Josh Donaldson at the hot corner.
Fri Nov 28 201422:13Brett Lawrie: Traded To A's
The Blue Jays traded Lawrie and prospects Franklin Barreto, Sean Nolin, and Kendall Graveman to the A's on Friday in exchange for Josh Donaldson, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
Lawrie battled injuries during his tenure with the Blue Jays, but he hit a career-best 12 home runs in 70 games last season and will turn just 25 years old in January, so he still has some upside. He will replace Donaldson as Oakland's regular third baseman.
Tue Sep 2 201411:43Brett Lawrie: (Back) Moved To 60-day DL
The Blue Jays transferred Lawrie (back) to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.
Lawrie was not expected to resume playing anytime soon, so the Blue Jays decided to move him on the 60-day disabled list to open up space on the 40-man roster. Given that he will not be eligible to be activated from the disabled list until September, don't expect him to make any further fantasy impact this season.
Fri Aug 22 201416:57Lawrie (back) continuing rehab in Arizona
Lawrie (back) is continuing his rehab in Arizona, but there's no timetable for his return, SportsNet's Megan Robinson reports. "When he'll be back, I have no idea, nobody knows," manager John Gibbons said.
He has played in just one game since June 22, and it's a complete mystery as to if or when he'll rejoin the Blue Jays this season. Those in deeper leagues may have no choice but to stash him, but it may be time to look for help elsewhere in standard formats.
Thu Aug 7 201412:09Brett Lawrie: Heads Back To Disabled List
The Blue Jays placed Lawrie (back) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Blue Jays broadcaster Mike Wilner reports.
Lawrie just returned earlier this week after missing more than a month with a finger injury, but he will be sidelined again after injuring his back in his first game off the disabled list. Munenori Kawasaki is the favorite to see most of the playing time at the hot corner in Lawrie's place, given that he saw fairly regular action there for a couple weeks prior to Lawrie's return.

Manager John Gibbons is hopeful that Lawrie (back) will be able to avoid a stint on the disabled list, John Lott of the National Post reports.
The Blue Jays are awaiting MRI results on the back injury that knocked Lawrie out of Tuesday's game, but he felt better Wednesday than the day before, so Farrell is hoping for only a short absence. Expect an update on Lawrie's status when the results of his MRI become available.
Wed Aug 6 201415:47Brett Lawrie: (Back) Sidelined Wednesday
Lawrie (back) is out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Orioles.
In his first game Tuesday since June 22, Lawrie was removed after three innings due to a tight lower back. He relayed afterward that the ailment was first evident during pregame workouts, but his attempts to tough it out were short-lived. While he's considered day-to-day for now, Munenori will cover the hot corner Wednesday, with Ryan Goins manning second base.
Tue Aug 5 201423:19Lawrie (back) will undergo MRI Wednesday
Lawrie (back) will undergo an MRI Wednesday, but the problem is not considered serious, SportsNet's Shi Davidi reports.
He left Tuesday's game after three innings with what was listed as lower-back tightness. Lawrie said he felt something "grabbing" in his back earlier in the day and during pre-game workouts, and was forced to take himself out of the game when the issue did not improve. It was scary to see him come out, as he had been out with a finger injury since June 22 and this was his first game back, but the injuries were unrelated and he could be back in the Blue Jays' lineup sometime this week.
Tue Aug 5 201420:09Brett Lawrie: Leaves With Back Tightness
Lawrie's return from a finger injury was short-lived Tuesday, as he exited the game after three innings with lower-back tightness, SportsNet's Shi Davidi reports.
He was replaced by Danny Valencia at third base, and the Blue Jays are saying his removal was precautionary. If it's indeed not related to the finger injury that had kept him out since June 22, then he could be back in the lineup Wednesday, but for now consider him day-to-day.

Lawrie is starting at third base and batting sixth Tuesday versus the Orioles, John Lott of the National Post reports.
Following his activation from the DL, Lawrie will cover the hot corner in his first appearance since June 22. Considering the battered nature of the Blue Jays' infield, he may slot in most days at third, with Ryan Goins and Munenori Kawasaki handling the keystone.

Lawrie (finger) was officially activated from the 15-day DL and will start Tuesday's game versus the Orioles.
Lawrie will make his first appearance since June 22 after making a few rehab appearances at High-A Dunedin over the weekend. He figures to be in the starting infield most days and will look to pick up where he left off before the injury. In 69 games this season, Lawrie has 12 home runs, already more than he hit in 107 contests last season. The Jays placed Steve Tolleson on the paternity list to open up a roster spot for Lawrie.
Mon Aug 4 201419:02Brett Lawrie: (Finger) Will Return Tuesday
Lawrie (finger) will be activated and slotted back into the Blue Jays' lineup Tuesday, the National Post's John Lott reports.
He started a rehab assignment with High-A Dunedin on Friday, and went 4-for-10 with a double, three runs and two walks. Lawrie will be in the lineup most days playing some third base and second base for the Jays after being out since June 22 with the finger injury. His 12 home runs in 69 games prior to the injury had him on pace for his most home runs in a season at any level of professional baseball. It's no lock that he'll be a similar power threat right away off the DL, but he's worth picking up off waivers in most formats as his multi-position eligibility makes him quite useful.

Lawrie (finger) will begin a rehab assignment Friday at High-A Dunedin, Blue Jays' play-by-play announcer Mike Wilner reports.
Lawrie, who has been out since late-June, will lead off and play second base Friday. It's unknown how long the rehab assignment will last, but, barring a setback, Lawrie should be back with the Blue Jays within the next week or two.
