Mon Nov 26 2012 | 11:15 | Jeff Clement signed by Twins |
Twins signed 1B Jeff Clement to a minor league contract. |
Clement hasn't been a prospect for a while, but he did have a pretty nice year at Triple-A with the Pirates in 2012, batting .276/.340/.486 line with 16 homers and 57 RBI. He's merely organizational depth. |

The third overall pick in the 2005 amateur draft, Clement has completely fallen off the prospect map. Still, he posted a .276/.340/.486 line with 16 homers and 57 RBI for Triple-A Indianapolis, and should have no problems finding another team willing to give him a shot. |

Clement was on the DL with a sore left knee. The Pirates probably weren't going to have a major role for him this month anyway, but it's disappointing that he won't get any sort of look. It'd be no surprise to see him given away this winter. |

Mon Aug 23 2010 | 14:27 | Pirates' Clement (knee irritation) goes on DL |
Pirates placed 1B Jeff Clement on the 15-day disabled list with left knee irritation. |
Clement is having trouble making contact this year, but his strikeout rate is not terrible. It looks like he has no pop, but his isolated slugging percentage is slightly above average. The package is not adding up to a big-league viable first baseman right now, but the book is not completely shut just yet. |
Sat Jul 31 2010 | 22:50 | Clement picks up pinch-hit homer |
Jeff Clement hit a pinch-hit homer for the Pirates only run in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals. |
The blast was a mammoth shot to right-center. Clement was just brought up Saturday and let his presence be known. He has showed a bit of pop in his time with the Pirates this season, but it remains to be seen if the Pirates will give him much playing time given that he's batted just .179 against right-handed pitching. |

The Pirates moved Clement to first base this spring in an effort to keep his knees healthy and fresh, but he batted just .189/.230/.331 in his first 127 at-bats and was demoted to Triple-A Indianapolis by early June. A return to catcher may help him get back to the big leagues more quickly. |

Wed Jun 9 2010 | 09:43 | Pirates send Jeff Clement to Triple-A |

Clement was given a chance to be the starting first baseman, but responded by batting just .189/.230/.331 with five homers and 34 strikeouts over 127 at-bats. The 2005 first-round pick has a .282/.370/.495 batting line in the minor leagues compared to a meager .220/.280/.370 batting line over 346 at-bats in the bigs. Garrett Jones figures to get the majority of the playing time at first base moving forward, at least until Steve Pearce returns from the disabled list. |
Tue Jun 8 2010 | 08:41 | Pirates may send Jeff Clement to minors |
Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hears that Jeff Clement could be optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis when Steve Pearce comes off the disabled list early next week. |
Many thought he would thrive with an everyday role at first base, but with a .189/.230/.331 batting line to go along with five homers and 34 strikeouts in 127 at-bats this season, time is about to run out on his opportunity. It's going to be tough to shed that Quad-A tag. |

Sun May 30 2010 | 16:45 | Pirates' Clement hits two-run homer |
Jeff Clement hit a two-run homer off Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami on Sunday. |
It was his only hit in three at-bats and Clement was eventually pinch-hit for with a left-hander on the mound. With Neil Walker up and looking strong, Clement really needs to start hitting if he wants to continue receiving semi-regular playing time. Even after today Clement's OPS stands at just 607, so he's got plenty of work to do. |
