Giambi didn't land the Rockies' managerial gig and wasn't interested in an offer to become the club's hitting coach. So now he wants to continue his playing career. The 41-year-old batted .225/.372/.303 with one homer and eight RBI in 113 plate appearances this summer.

Thu Nov 8 201216:51Rockies want Jason Giambi as hitting coach
Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd told Troy Renck of the Denver Post that the club hopes Jason Giambi will consider being their hitting coach.
Giambi was one of the finalists for manager, but the Rockies settled on Walt Weiss as their new skipper on Wednesday night. "We consider him a Rockie, we hope this is the spot he will consider," said O'Dowd. "He was very impressive in his interview for the manager's job." Giambi previously said that he would only retire to become the manager, but Renck hears that the 41-year-old is prepared to listen about the hitting coach job while seeing what develops in the free agent market. It's unlikely he will return to the Rockies as a player.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Jason Giambi will interview for the Rockies' managerial vacancy.
No date has been scheduled, but Giambi will be the last in-house candidate interviewed before the Rockies begin to look outside the organization. Giambi, 41, has never coached at any level and underwent hernia surgery last week to leave open the option of playing in 2013.

Sun Oct 14 201213:10Giambi still a candidate for manager job
Troy Renck of the Denver Post writes that Jason Giambi "remains a candidate for the Rockies' manager job until he's ruled out."
Renck adds that it's "possible" Giambi will be interviewed this week. Giambi hasn't officially retired as a player yet and obviously has no managerial experience, but he reportedly would be willing to end his playing career if the Rox would give him a chance to be the skipper. Bench coach Tom Runnells and Triple-A manager Stu Cole are the main internal candidates for the Rockies, who are still trying to decide whether to pursue external options.

Tue Oct 9 201212:36Giambi could be managerial candidate with COL
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Jason Giambi could be a candidate for the Rockies' managerial vacancy.
Giambi is highly respected in the clubhouse, but he obviously doesn't have any managerial experience, so the Rockies may prefer to have him as a bench coach initially. Rockies bench coach Tom Runnells and Triple-A manager Stu Cole are among the other in-house candidates. Tim Wallach, Sandy Alomar Jr. and Brad Ausmus could be considered if the Rockies decide to go outside the organization.
