Tue May 15 201221:22Jason Giambi nursing sore foot
Jason Giambi has been nursing a sore foot recently.
Giambi hasn't started a game since May 9, but he usually only starts about once per week, anyway. He was able to pinch-hit Monday, drawing a walk. He should continue to be available off the bench.

Wed May 2 201218:52Jason Giambi wins game for Rockies
Pinch-hitter Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Rockies an 8-5 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Giambi needed just a sac fly to end it, but he delivered a no-doubter to right-center off reliever Scott Elbert instead. It was his first homer of this season after he entered the game 3-for-17. The Rockies got the win despite blowing leads in both the eighth and ninth innings of the game.

Fri Feb 24 201211:57Tracy wants to get Jason Giambi 35 starts
Rockies manager Jim Tracy said he wants to get Jason Giambi about 35 starts this season.
Giambi was terrific in a backup role last year, batting .260/.355/.603 with 13 home runs and 32 RBI in 131 at-bats. He was hit just .133 (4-for-30) with one homer in a pinch-hitter role, though, so Tracy wants to get him some time at first base. It shouldn't be a problem with Todd Helton and his chronically aching back ahead of Giambi on the depth chart. Tracy said he also might occasionally use Giambi as a pinch-hitter earlier in the game to switch things up.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have exercised Jason Giambi's $1 million option for 2012.
It was a mutual option, so Giambi also had to agree to return to Colorado for another season. But it didn't take him long to make that decision. The veteran backup first baseman hit .260/.355/.603 with 13 homers and 32 RBI in 131 at-bats this season. He'll play a similar part-time role in 2012.

Rockies and first baseman Jason Giambi are close to agreeing on an option for the 2012 season.
Giambi is expected to exercise his $1 million mutual option that would allow him to return to the Rockies. While he doesn't have to officially make a decision until next week, it's likely there will be a joint announcement Monday given the club's expressed interest in bringing him back. As Todd Helton's backup, he hit .260 with 13 home runs and 32 RBI in 131 at-bats.

Fri Sep 23 201117:56Giambi (back) only available to pinch-hit
Jason Giambi will be limited to pinch-hitting for the rest of the season due to a stiff back.
Giambi, 40, has proved to be a valuable bat off the bench this season, batting .260/.355/.603 with 13 homers over 131 at-bats. The Rockies plan to pick up his $1 million mutual option for next season, though the veteran slugger might be able to negotiate a higher salary for 2012.

Fri Sep 23 201109:27Rockies will exercise Jason Giambi's option
Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd said the team plans to exercise Jason Giambi's $1 million mutual option for next season.
It's a no-brainer after the 40-year-old showed this season that he can still be a valuable bench bat and occasional first baseman, batting .260/.355/.603 with 13 homers over 131 at-bats. The Rockies will need to find a long-term solution for first base before long, but for now, Todd Helton and Giambi will hold down the fort for another year.

Sun Aug 28 201121:45Giambi would like to go Phillies if traded
If he is traded, Jason Giambi would prefer to be shipped to the Phillies.
Giambi isn't looking to leave Colorado, and he likely wouldn't make it to the Phillies on waivers. He has a cool 1.031 OPS in 124 plate appearances this season.

Wed Aug 17 201104:06Giambi smacks another ninth inning homer
Jason Giambi unleashed his second homer in as many at-bats on Tuesday, delivering a pinch-hit, two-run shot in the ninth inning of a 6-5 loss.
It was Giambi's first pinch-hit home run of the year and seventh of his career. Somehow, the 40-year-old now has a career high 1.041 OPS in limited action this season. Manager Jim Tracy has handled him brilliantly, getting the most out of the veteran without burning him out.

Fri Aug 12 201117:58Rockies activate Jason Giambi from DL
Rockies activated 1B Jason Giambi from the 15-day disabled list.
Giambi hasn't played since July 25 due to a strained right quadriceps muscle. The veteran slugger is batting .260/.357/.625 with 10 homers and 24 RBI over just 112 plate appearances this season. There's still a chance he could be dealt to a contender sometime this month.

Fri Aug 12 201108:34Giambi should return on Friday
The Denver Post's Troy Renck expects Jason Giambi (quad) to be activated in time for the beginning of Colorado's three-game set with the Cardinals on Friday.
Giambi has been sidelined since July 25. Batting .260/.357/.625 through his first 112 plate appearances this season, he has almost certainly earned himself a 2012 contract.

Sat Aug 6 201110:03Jason Giambi takes BP
Jason Giambi (quad) took batting practice prior to Friday's game.
He'll surely have to test out the quad with some running soon, but it appears Giambi is progressing. He's eligible to come off the DL in the middle of next week, and it seems like he has a good shot to be activated then. He could possibly be traded sometime this month.

Tue Aug 2 201100:48Giambi (quad) plays catch Monday
Jason Giambi (quad) played catch prior to Monday's game against the Phillies.
"He's feeling better," said Rockies manager Jim Tracy. "I don't think they want to push it just yet as far as [hitting] or anything like that is concerned, with the pushing off of the quad and the left leg. But he is headed in the direction that we want him to go in. The hitting part of it is still probably a couple, few days away." Giambi went on the disabled list after aggravating a quad injury last Monday. The veteran slugger could still be moved to a contender once he returns to full health.

Sat Jul 30 201112:31Report: Phillies could get Giambi or Thome
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Phillies "appeared almost certain" to get Jason Giambi (quad) before he was hurt and still might get him.
The Phils are looking to add a veteran left-handed bat for the bench, and ESPN's Jayson Stark has reported that they've asked the Twins about Jim Thome, as well. Giambi could possibly be traded in August once he's healthy.

Tue Jul 26 201120:21Jason Giambi lands on DL
Rockies placed 1B Jason Giambi on the 15-day disabled list with a left quad strain.
The veteran aggravated a quad injury Monday and will have to sit out at least a couple weeks. "He's sore enough today we are going to have to move off to the side to let it quiet down," manager Jim Tracy said. This obviously rules out Giambi being traded before the deadline, though he's a candidate to be dealt in August. The Rockies have not announced a corresponding move.

Tue Jul 26 201108:47Giambi (quad) could land on disabled list
Jason Giambi (quad) could be headed for the DL.
Giambi aggravated an old quad injury Monday in the ninth inning and was spotted walking gingerly in the clubhouse. He's been tied recently to the Phillies and a couple of other interested teams, but a trade may now have to wait until August.

Mon Jul 25 201116:56Report: Phils interested in Jason Giambi
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Phillies are interested in Jason Giambi.
A deal could go down in August. Giambi, 40, is batting .263/.360/.632 with 10 homers and 23 RBI over 111 plate appearances this season. Three of those homers came in one game against Philadelphia on May 19. He could be a useful lefty bat off the bench and serve as a potential DH should the Phillies reach the World Series. The veteran slugger has also drawn interest from at least one American League team.

Fri Jul 22 201119:47AL team has talked to Rox about Jason Giambi
Jason Giambi confirmed that he has talked to Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd about being traded to an American League team.
It's not clear which team(s) they talked about, but with Giambi swinging the bat well this year, it's not surprising that he's drawing interest as a possible DH. Giambi has previously stated that he'd like to remain in Colorado.
