Fri Dec 9 201110:05Brandon Roy (knees) could announce retirement
Brandon Roy is expected to soon announce his retirement due to a degenerative knee condition, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.
The announcement could be made as soon as today, and would be a very sad and abrupt end to Roy's career, assuming he stays retired. A medically-necessitated retirement could be a good thing for the Blazers' finances, however, freeing cap space without the use of their amnesty clause.

Tue Dec 6 201101:09Blazers say they're keeping Brandon Roy
Despite earlier reports that the Blazers were very close to using their amnesty clause on Brandon Roy, the team announced Monday night that wasn't the case, and that Roy was penciled in as a starter this season.
"Our plan right now is not to use the amnesty," team president Larry Miller said. "We expect Brandon to be a part of this team when the season starts." Roy has told the team his knee feels good and that he is prepared to start or come off the bench. Nate McMillan said recently that he expects Roy to start over Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum, but that he also go Roy's OK to come off the bench if his knee acts up. "We know bringing him off the bench last year wasn't that productive," he said. "This year he is sounding like if that is the case, he will accept it a little better." We don't think Roy's knee will allow him to stay in the lineup for long, but it does sound like there's a chance he will be productive this season. But we still wouldn't draft him in fantasy.

Fri Dec 2 201100:09POR: Roy easier to keep if he accepts 'role'
Blazers president Larry Miller said Thursday that it would be easier to keep Brandon Roy if he was willing to accept a lesser role.
"If Brandon were to accept mentally that 'I'm not that guy anymore, but I will do whatever I can to help the team,' it would make it easier to keep him around," Miller said. That could prove to be a tough sell for Roy, who complained publicly about playing time despite the obvious truth that he was a mere fraction of the player he once was. Even if Roy is to stay in Portland, he will not cut into the minutes of Wesley Matthews or Nicolas Batum much, if at all.

Wed Nov 30 201119:09Blazers' Miller: 'No decision on Roy' amnesty
Blazers' president Larry Miller said on Tuesday that "there will be no decision on Brandon Roy until we take a closer look at him" in regards to waiving him using the amnesty clause.
It's been widely reported that a decision has already been made to waive Roy, but Miller is disputing that. He also went on to say the team still has no GM and might go through the season without one, which is laughable and unnecessary. It should be an interesting season in Portland, to say the least.

Tue Nov 29 201101:49Warriors, Wolves reportedly interested in Roy
The Warriors and Timberwolves may be ready to pounce on Brandon Roy if and when he is released by the Blazers under the new amnesty clause.
Rick Adelman is said to be a Roy fan, while the Warriors may want to have his veteran presence on the bench. It makes sense that two young teams would want Roy and his leadership qualities on their bench, but with Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis running the show for GSW, leadership and a bench role is really all he could offer the Warriors.

Mon Nov 28 201119:49Report: Blazers are expected to amnesty Roy
John Canzano reports in the Oregonian that Brandon Roy is almost assured to be waived by the Blazers via amnesty.
"Brandon's out," a league executive told Canzano. "Don't know the exact details, but everyone around the league knows it's way, way done." Multiple teams would be interested in adding Roy once he hits waivers, but details are uncertain until the new CBA is in place and teams are allowed to openly discuss players. Stay tuned.

Mon Nov 28 201118:51Report: Blazers ready to amnesty Brandon Roy
John Canzano said on Twitter Monday night that it appears the Blazers are going to use their amnesty clause to waive Brandon Roy.
He also said later that there were supporters within the organization to keep Roy and bring him into camp, but that they were currently in the minority. Canzano will release a report on the subject later, and while it's far from a done deal, it looks like Roy's (and his bum knee) days could be numbered in Portland.

Mon Nov 28 201102:03Brandon Roy strong amnesty candidate
Brandon Roy's chronic knee problems could force the Blazers' hand and cause them to waive him under the new amnesty rules.
Additionally, Marc Stein is reporting that Rick Adelman, Minnesota's new coach, has an interest in acquiring Roy. We are in the camp that says Roy will never be the same player due to his knee condition, but he is also a guy who could serve as a very solid role player in the right situation. Fantasy-wise, we say stay away. But don't be surprised if he's let go by the Blazers and lands in Minnesota, where he was originally drafted before being traded for Randy Foye.

Sat Nov 12 201111:56Brandon Roy looks 'great' in pick-up games
Jamal Crawford said that Brandon Roy looked great in recent pickup games.
"I'm honestly not sure that he missed more than one shot, and we played for a couple of hours," said Crawford. "B-Roy's team won a lot of games." Roy has said that he is healthy and doesn't have soreness in his knees, which is a very positive sign for the Blazers.

Sun Oct 23 201109:47Blazers' GM search includes Geoff Petrie
The Blazers GM search reportedly now includes Jazz GM Kevin O'Connor and Kings president Geoff Petrie.
Portland hasn't contacted either executive, however, and they seem in no rush to replace Rich Cho. As we've noted before, the Blazers' GM job isn't exactly glamorous given Greg Oden and Brandon Roy's injury woes and the overbearing presence of owner Paul Allen.

Sat Oct 22 201110:21Blazers' owner ready to sell the franchise?
Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen has been among the 'hard-line' group of owners pushing for steeper player concessions, and there are whispers that he's preparing to sell the team.
According to Yahoo! Sports, "There's suspicion that [Allen's] motives center on saving as much money as possible in this CBA to eventually ready his franchise for a sale." The Blazers also have yet to hire a new GM, and may not have contacted purported candidate (and Jazz executive) Kevin O'Connor. Even if Allen has no intentions of selling the Blazers, his take-it-or-leave it approach has introduced an acrimonious element to CBA talks.

Fri Sep 30 201122:24Blazers ownership sued by security company
A former security director for Vulcan, Inc. and three other security officers are suing Vulcan, Inc., who owns the Blazers as well as the Seattle Seahawks, claiming they were forced to resign after witnessing illegal or unethical acts committed by owner Paul Allen, his sister, and the company itself.
Large companies get sued all of the time so unless a subsequent report comes through the pipeline we doubt anything will come of this. If there is any evidence of impropriety then the timing will be bad for the owners to say the least.

Wed Sep 21 201119:59Report: Owners have consensus on 'amnesty'
John Canzano of the Oregonian reported on Tuesday that the owners have consensus on two "amnesty-type provisions" for a new CBA.
Did the tight-lipped NBA leak this to Canzano to highlight Brandon Roy's extreme situation? Roy signed a max contract extension before his knee quit, and he's among the biggest financial drains in the NBA (never mind that the Blazers knew about his knee when they extended him). It's too early to tell how, but this could be an area of give-and-take in the CBA negotiations.

Fri Sep 9 201110:03Blazers expand search for new GM to CLE, LA
In their search for a new GM, the Trail Blazers' are reportedly considering Cavaliers executive David Griffin and Clippers executive Neil Olshey.
The Blazers' GM position may have lost some luster in light of Greg Oden's chronic injuries, Brandon Roy's bum knees and owner Paul Allen's intrusive style, which led to the ouster of Kevin Pritchard and Rich Cho in back-to-back years. Other candidates for the job include Warriors GM Chris Mullin, Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey and Thunder executive Troy Weaver.

Sun Sep 4 201109:28Blazers expected to interview Chris Mullin
The Blazers are expected to interview Chris Mullin as part of their search for a new GM.
Thunder executive Troy Weaver was first on tap, but the Blazers are bound to be very particular after firing two well-respected GMs in back-to-back years (Kevin Pritchard and Rich Cho).

Sat Sep 3 201116:15Blazers begin search for new GM
Thunder executive Troy Weaver has interviewed for the Blazers' vacant GM job
According to Yahoo! Sports, Weaver pushed hard to draft Russell Westbrook and "is considered an excellent evaluator of talent, and is well-connected on every level of the game." After firing Kevin Pritchard and Rich Cho in consecutive years, they'll want to be very careful about whom they select for the job.

Sun Jul 24 201110:25Brandon Roy knees improving during summer
Brandon Roy said that he is "doing great" this summer -- he is lifting weights, playing light basketball games, and has no soreness in his knees.
Roy attended but did not play in a charity game in Seattle on Saturday. "Working out, keeping my weight down," said Roy. "Really trying to take my time and keep improving." His preference is for the NBA season to start on time, but an extended lockout could prove useful for his decrepit knees.

Wed Jul 13 201117:23NBA nearly fines GM $1M for saying 'yeah'
The NBA nearly fined the Blazers $1 million when acting general manager Chad Buchanan responded to an observation by using the word, 'yeah.'
The observation by the reporter was 'that it was too bad that there is no summer league,' but the NBA's internal gag order prohibiting discussion about the players apparently knows no bounds. The league may not care much about public opinion, but if they do, incidents like these don't do much to make them appear to be reasonable people.

Fri Jul 1 201120:46Pritchard says Blazers knew about Roy's knee
Former general manager of the Blazers Kevin Pritchard said on Friday that the team was aware of Brandon Roy's knee issues when they signed him to a five-year, max contract extension worth $80 million prior to the 2009-10 season.
Pritchard was hesitant to sign Roy and that created a ton of negative press for him, and now we know why, in what sounds like a veiled shot at the team that fired him. Roy's knee has rendered him a longshot to start or play a full slate of games this year, and aside from one unlikely showing in the playoffs, his knee has reduced him to a shadow of his former self.

Thu Jun 2 201117:12Roy may not be able to play 82 games
Blazers acting GM Chad Buchanan admitted he isn't sure if Brandon Roy can play 82 games next season.
Buchanan said he "has no reason to believe" Roy won't be a Blazer next season. There have been whispers the team may ask him to retire, but we can't see that. If the Blazers can squeeze 60 games of quality bench play out of him, they might as well keep him around. From a fantasy perspective, the uncertainty will make us stay away.
