Sat Feb 23 201301:05Smith scores 22 points with five boards
Jason Smith scored 22 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 9-of-15 shots with five rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes.
Smith does this every once in a while, but he'll need some injury assistance in front of him before he can have any real fantasy value. Anthony Davis did not return to tonight's game after suffering a knee injury, but the injury isn't believed to be serious.

Wed Feb 6 201316:39Jason Smith might need offseason surgery
Jason Smith says he might need surgery on his sore shoulder after the offseason surgery.
Smith chose to play through the pain instead of having surgery in December and it's fair to wonder how much the injury has caused his inconsistent season. Perhaps an offseason procedure will help him bounce back next season, but for now he's simply been too unreliable to be counted on in all but the very deepest of leagues.

Sun Jan 27 201320:54Jason Smith scores 16 in 27 minutes
Jason Smith had 16 points, five rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes off the Hornets' bench on Sunday.
He got more minutes and production than Anthony Davis, which happens more often than we'd like to see, but Smith is still too inconsistent to be trusted in most fantasy leagues. He had four points in 17 minutes in his previous game.

Thu Jan 10 201300:19Jason Smith gets hot in win over Rockets
Jason Smith blew up for 17 points, a season-high 10 rebounds and three blocks in Wednesday's win over the Rockets.
Smith and teammate Roger Mason caught fire in the fourth quarter and led a nice comeback for the win, and it's hard to believe that Smith was iffy coming in with a sore shoulder. He's actually been playing fairly well over his last four games, but we doubt Monty Williams allows Smith to continue to limit guys like Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson. Just keep your eye on him.

Jason Smith scored eight points on 4-of-4 shooting with no other statistics in Monday's game against the Spurs.
Smith logged 17 minutes and had generated mild interest in deeper formats last week, but as you can see with this output it's back to the drawing board for him.

Sun Jan 6 201300:25Jason Smith scores 12 points in 28 minutes
Hornets PF Jason Smith scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench vs. Dallas, while nearing his season high with 28 minutes played.
Smith has substantially affected Anthony Davis' playing time in the past two games (Davis logged just 12 minutes on Saturday, with no report of an injury). We'll need to see many more games like this from Smith before recommending him, but this is a situation worth monitoring.

Jason Smith (shoulder) returned to action on Friday.
He's been out for 2.5 weeks and was diagnosed with a torn labrum on December 14. He doesn't have much value with Anthony Davis and Robin Lopez playing well.

Fri Dec 28 201219:56Jason Smith (shoulder) in warmups
Jason Smith (shoulder) is in uniform and warming up for Friday's game against the Raptors.
Smith's return should be watched and not acted upon, as it's unclear what his role will be in the rotation, especially in his first game back.

Fri Dec 28 201211:26Jason Smith a game-time decision Friday
Jason Smith (shoulder) went through practice and is a game-time decision on Friday.
Smith is hopeful to play, but he's still experiencing soreness in his shoulder. Even if he doesn't return on Friday, Smith is working his way back into action. When he does get back, he could eat into Robin Lopez's recent uptick in production.

Thu Dec 27 201216:58Jason Smith will be re-evaluated on Friday
Monty Williams said Jason Smith (shoulder) went through a good workout Thursday, but the team wants to see how he is Friday.
The Hornets have been targeting a late-week return for Smith, so it's possible he could play Friday if there are no setbacks. Check back tomorrow for something more definitive, but we wouldn't advise getting all worked up about it. Smith has a negligible impact on the fantasy landscape.

Wed Dec 26 201218:55Jason Smith won't play Wednesday night
Jason Smith (shoulder) will not play Wednesday against the Magic.
Monty Williams believes Smith, who has missed almost two weeks with a torn labrum, could return later in the week. While Smith would certainly be a boost for the Hornets, his meager averages of 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds don't do much for fantasy owners.

Mon Dec 24 201217:09Jason Smith (shoulder) could play this week
Jason Smith (shoulder) could return later this week, according to Monty Williams.
Smith has been out for nearly two weeks with a torn labrum, but he didn't need surgery and he's been going through shooting drills recently. The Hornets can certainly use him to support their frontcourt, but fantasy owners won't have much use for his averages of 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds.

Fri Dec 14 201223:26Jason Smith has a torn labrum in shoulder
Jason Smith said he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
"We took an MRI and it's bad news," Smith said. "(Surgery) is still up for debate. We'll have to weigh the options and go forward from there." Smith was diagnosed with a sprained shoulder earlier today, but this news will likely keep him out longer than two weeks. He was relegated to a backup role now that Anthony Davis is back, so he can be left on the waiver wire while he recovers.

Fri Dec 14 201218:53Jason Smith will miss up to two weeks
Jason Smith will miss up to two weeks with a shoulder sprained suffered against the Thunder on Wednesday.
Smith had begun to show some signs of life in recent games, but the return of Anthony Davis would have limited Smith's role. By the time Smith gets healthy, Davis will likely be off his minutes restriction and Smith will be mostly a non-factor in most formats. Robin Lopez and Lance Thomas will see additional minutes in Smith's absence.
