Tue Jan 14 201401:15Smith plays just 19 minutes for the Pelicans
Jason Smith played just 19 minutes on Monday, scoring six points on 3-of-9 shooting with three rebounds and one steal.
Smith was lifted in the third quarter after his fourth foul and Monty Williams never went back to him, opting for Alexis Ajinca (seven points, four boards, two blocks) instead in a tight game vs. the Spurs. As long as Smith is starting and not injured, though, he'll be worth a look for owners in need of a big man.

Sun Jan 12 201400:58Jason Smith scores 10 points in start
Jason Smith was back in the starting lineup against the Mavericks on Saturday with 10 points, seven boards and one turnover in 19 minutes before fouling out.
He's been coming off the bench since returning from a shoulder injury on Jan. 7. Smith was putting up nice numbers while the Pelicans were without Anthony Davis, so he should be able to get some minutes in the 20s as the starting center. He's worth a look for owners seeking help in blocks and boards.

Tue Jan 7 201423:58Jason Smith gets 22 minutes off bench
Jason Smith came off the bench in his return to the lineup on Tuesday, scoring eight points with four boards, one assist and one turnover in 22 minutes.
He was out of the lineup for the past five games due to a shoulder injury and the Pelicans didn't throw him in the starting lineup right away. There's a good chance Smith will be starting on Wednesday night vs. the Wizards and he was playing some hefty minutes in the early part of December, so he's worth a look in some leagues while Ryan Anderson (neck) is sidelined.

Tue Jan 7 201418:10Jason Smith (shoulder) active on Tuesday
Jason Smith (shoulder) will be available off the Pelicans' bench on Tuesday, though he'll be playing with a minute-limit.
A backup role with a prescribed minute-allotment won't add up to fantasy success, though his return is great news for the Pelicans as they adjust to playing without Ryan Anderson (herniated disc), at least for a while.

Tue Jan 7 201413:26Jason Smith expected to play vs. Heat
Jason Smith (shoulder) is expected to play in Tuesday's game against the Heat.
With Ryan Anderson (herniated disc) out indefinitely, Smith's return is perfect timing. He'll be battling Alexis Ajinca for minutes next to Anthony Davis, a competition that figures to result in some kind of timeshare. Smith is averaging 10.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while playing 27.7 minutes per night on the season. He can sustain that.

Wed Jan 1 201419:11Jason Smith still out vs. Wolves
Jason Smith (knee) will not play against the Wolves on Wednesday.
This will be his second consecutive game out of action and the fifth in his last sixth due to a knee injury. Smith's minutes will take a dip now that Anthony Davis is healthy and Greg Stiemsma will also get some playing time. With Smith out tonight, Al-Farouq Aminu might also get more minutes at power forward.

Tue Dec 31 201317:53Pelicans waive PF/C Lou Amundson
The Pelicans have waived Lou Amundson.
He was extraneous with Alexis Ajinca playing well and the Pelicans' key PF/Cs healthy, with the exception of Jason Smith's sore knee. The veteran big man may latch on with another team but he's not a fantasy asset.

Mon Dec 30 201319:25Jason Smith out this time on Monday
Jason Smith (knee) is on the inactive list for Monday's game against the Blazers.
That means he cannot play in this game. On Saturday, a team official said he was out of the lineup, but Smith did play. He won't have much fantasy value while he's healthy now that Anthony Davis is back in the lineup.

Sat Dec 28 201320:52Jason Smith is playing on Saturday
Updating a previous item, Jason Smith (knee) is playing on Saturday night.
He was reportedly out according to multiple reports, but the team must have changed its mind. Smith isn't worth owning in most leagues while Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson are healthy.

Sat Dec 28 201318:39Jason Smith won't play vs. Houston on Sat.
Jason Smith (knee) will not play against the Rockets on Saturday.
This will be his fourth game of missing action. The Pelicans really don't need Smith now that Anthony Davis is back, so he can be left on the wire in most formats.

Fri Dec 27 201319:05Jason Smith out vs. Nuggets on Friday
Jason Smith (knee) will not play against the Nuggets on Friday.
This will be his third game on the sidelines due to his knee soreness. Smith had a good run while Anthony Davis was out with his hand injury, but he can be cut in almost all leagues. Davis and Ryan Anderson will get most of the minutes at power forward and center tonight.

Fri Dec 27 201311:43Jason Smith could miss third straight game
Jason Smith is still listed as day-to-day as Friday night's game against the Nuggets approaches.
He's been out with a sore knee and has seen his fantasy value drained by the return of Anthony Davis. If Smith is out again, look for Davis to start at center and Ryan Anderson to get the call at power forward.

Mon Dec 23 201322:17Jason Smith (knee) will miss Monday's game
Jason Smith (knee) will not play on Monday night.
It will be his second game on the sidelines with a bruise to his right knee. The Pelicans are fine putting Anthony Davis at center and moving Ryan Anderson into the starting lineup. Now that The Brow is back, Smith's fantasy appeal won't be much even once he's back to full health.

Sun Dec 22 201301:46Jason Smith sits out with bone bruise
Jason Smith did not play against the Blazers on Saturday due to a bone bruise in his right knee.
Coach Monty Williams is a fan of using Anthony Davis as his center spot and they didn't miss Smith much. He played just 22 minutes on Wednesday, so his value is clearly trending down. His owners should be looking to add someone else even though this injury doesn't sound serious.

Thu Dec 19 201302:45Jason Smith disappears in Davis' return
Jason Smith hit just 1-of-4 shots for two points, seven rebounds and zero blocks in 22 minutes on Wednesday, as Anthony Davis returned from his broken hand.
Smith has been playing very well and could continue to start at center, but we expect his production to take a big hit with the return of Davis. If you are desperate for a starting center, hang onto him, but expect his numbers to take a dive now that Davis is back in action.

Wed Dec 11 201323:36Jason Smith goes off for 22 & 16 in win
Jason Smith tied a season high with 22 points and set a season high with 16 rebounds in Wednesday's win over the Pistons.
Smith also had two blocks and hit 8-of-14 shots in his best game of the season. As long as Anthony Davis remains out with his broken hand, Smith is a reasonable fantasy option in most instances. He's averaging 11 points, 11.2 rebounds and 0.8 blocks over his last five games.

Sat Dec 7 201301:35Jason Smith only plays 24 minutes
Jason Smith scored four points with 12 boards and one assist in 24 minutes against the Thunder on Friday.
The Pelicans were basically down by double digits in the entire second half and coach Monty Williams went with a smaller lineup in an effort to mount a comeback. They have lost a lot of depth and Smith should be over 30 minutes more often than not while Tyreke Evans (ankle) and Anthony Davis (hand) are out of the lineup. He's worth a look in standard leagues.

Wed Dec 4 201323:19Jason Smith scores 12 points w/ nine boards
Jason Smith scored 12 points with nine boards, one assist, one steal and one block in 36 minutes against the Mavericks on Wednesday.
He played 47 minutes against the Bulls on Monday and looks to be a fixture in the paint while the Pelicans are without Anthony Davis. Smith is solid in both shooting percentages and should be a nice source of points, boards and blocks over the next month for fantasy owners.

Tue Dec 3 201300:50Jason Smith scores 12 points with 14 boards
Jasom Smith shot 6-of-17 from the field for 12 points with 14 boards and one steal in 47 minutes against the Bulls on Monday.
He only played 24 minutes against the Knicks as the Pelicans went with a smaller lineup in that game. It was a little different tonight and they gave Smith all he could handle. He fouled out in this game and that's been a new concern for him on the season. After tonight's game, he moved up to ninth in the NBA in fouls per game with 3.4. Smith should still be a Kosta Koufos-like asset in fantasy leagues while Anthony Davis is out of the lineup.
