Sat Mar 16 201323:33Marreese Speights scores 19 pts w/ four blks
Mareese Speights scored a combined two points in Cleveland's past two games, but he had 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 23 minutes vs. the Spurs on Saturday.
Speights' production depends upon the opposition's lineups, how well Tyler Zeller starts the game, how much energy Speights plays with on a given night, and whether his jump shot is falling. If you can figure out when his stars will align, feel free to deploy him.

Tue Mar 12 201322:21Marreese Speights disappears on Tuesday
Marreese Speights missed all five of his shots on Tuesday, finishing without a point and six rebounds in just 15 minutes of the win over Washington.
Speights had scored in double figures in five of his previous six games, so tonight's disaster was tough to see coming. He should bounce back in the next one for the banged up Cavs.

Mon Mar 11 201307:55Report: Speights to opt out of his contract
Marreese Speights will reportedly opt out of his contract after the season.
Speights has a player option worth about $4.5 million, but he'll likely pursue a multi-year deal after proving that he can be a serviceable big man off the bench this season. He's averaging 12.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 20 games since joining the Cavs and should draw plenty of interest on the open market.

Wed Mar 6 201323:31Marreese Speights plays 18 minutes in win
Marreese Speights, who blew up for 23 points on Monday in the absence of Tyler Zeller, returned to the bench and still managed 14 points, seven boards and a block in just 18 minutes, as Zeller returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday.
Byron Scott ripped his mental game despite his big game on Monday and with Zeller back, Speights is probably going to have a tough road to hoe with Scott as his coach. Just keep an eye on him, as he's still managed to be productive despite Scott's apparent lack of support.

Tue Mar 5 201318:09Byron Scott rips into Marreese Speights
Coach Byron Scott said he was not impressed with Marreese Speights despite Monday's 23-point outburst.
Speights annually frustrates coaches with his poor basketball IQ, questionable shot selection and lack of energy. "I thought in the first half he was really focused and into it and the second half I thought he probably stayed in the locker room from a mental standpoint," Scott said. Speights will go back to the bench on Wednesday with Tyler Zeller (illness) feeling better.

Mon Mar 4 201322:31Marreese Speights goes for 23 points vs. NYK
Marreese Speights started hot in Monday's loss to the Knicks, finishing with 23 points, eight boards and one steal on 10-of-14 shooting in 32 minutes.
He made his first 10 attempts, then in true Speights fashion, missed his last four. He did get a great chance to show what he could do with Tyler Zeller out of the lineup and this performance figures to carry over even when Zeller returns. We wouldn't bend over backwards to pick him up, but he's worth a look in some leagues.

Sun Mar 3 201306:00Marreese Speights now likely to opt out?
Marreese Speights "will likely opt out" of the final year of his contract with the Cavs, according to beat writer Bob Finnan.
Finnan isn't quoting Speights, but he's making an informed assumption based upon his feel for the situation and the NBA market for competent big men. This reverses the received wisdom around the time Speights was traded to Cleveland, but it's possible that his solid play off the bench has caused his value to spike in the eyes of the league's GMs.

Wed Feb 27 201322:51Marreese Speights goes for 11 & 9 in win
Marreese Speights had 11 points, nine rebounds and a block off the Cavs bench Wednesday.
Speights is quietly coming on again and came into to tonight's game averaging 10 points and 6.2 rebounds over his last five games. He's worth a deep-league look again if you need a big man.

Sat Feb 23 201322:18Marreese Speights scores 18 pts w/ eight rebs
Marreese Speights found the range vs. Orlando, scoring 18 points with eight rebounds, one steal and one block in 23 minutes.
The Cavs' backup big man hit 4-of-8 FGs and 10-of-12 FTs. Tonight was a reminder that Speights will never make the ballot for the All-Defensive Team, but it's nice to see his shot falling after he scored 7.0 points on 12-of-38 shooting in his past three games.

Wed Feb 13 201322:32Marreese Speights goes for 9 & 9 in loss
Marreese Speights had nine points, nine rebounds, a steal and zero blocks in 16 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.
Despite the limited minutes, Speights is still averaging 10.6 points and 6.0 rebounds over his last five, making him worth a look in most leagues.

Tue Feb 12 201300:43Speights quiet in embarrassing loss
Marreese Speights scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting with three rebounds and one block in 20 minutes off the bench on Monday.
Speights has slowed down after a promising start and tonight the Cavs might have cost Byron Scott his job by some local reports (which we'll take with a grain of salt). If there is a silver lining here, it's that Speights might get some additional run if Scott decides to shake things up.

Sat Feb 9 201322:29Marreese Speights shoots 1-of-10 in defeat
Marreese Speights went ice cold vs. the Nuggets, scoring five points on 1-of-10 FGs in 16 minutes of action.
The Cavs' backup big man added three rebounds and one block. He's had some offensive fireworks since being traded from Memphis, but he was sloppy tonight and (more importantly) he's averaging under 20 minutes in the past three games. There may be players with more consistency and/or upside on the waiver wire, and owners should be weighing those options against Speights.

Sat Feb 9 201301:00Speights scores 18 points, hits 12-of-12 FTs
Marreese Speights scored 18 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 3-of-13 shots (12-of-12 FTs) with five rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes.
Speights is hitting a ridiculous 96 percent of his free throws in his last six games and is posting mid-round value over that span. He should be owned in most formats until he proves he shouldn't be.

Wed Feb 6 201321:53Marreese Speights doubled-doubles
Marreese Speights had 11 points, 10 rebounds and a block in just 19 minutes in Wednesday's blowout win.
That's two straight double-doubles off the bench and he's averaging 15.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and a block over his last five games. Even though he's not starting for the Cavs, he's worth owning in most leagues while he's this hot for his new team.

Mon Feb 4 201302:57Marreese Speights on a roll w/ Cavaliers
Marreese Speights is averaging 15.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in five games with the Cavaliers, drawing praise from coach Byron Scott.
"I didn't know he was that fiery," Scott said. "From what I saw in Philly, he was a guy who was primarily a catch-and-shoot guy, a perimeter big guy, who could stretch the floor. The first game we had him here, I saw he was much more than that." Since Speights joined the rotation Tyler Zeller's averages have plummeted to 7.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 0.2 blocks. It's conceivable that Zeller will lose his starting job, but either way his fantasy value has been decimated.

Sat Feb 2 201322:37Marreese Speights gets 20 & 10 off Cavs bench
The Cavs' bench scored 44 points on Saturday, led by Marreese Speights who had 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one block.
The newly-acquired big man sank 10-of-15 FGs and he's quickly taken to a bigger role in Cleveland, where competent bench play has been rare all season. Tyler Zeller wound up with just seven points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes and his run as a fantasy asset could be coming to an end, but Tristan Thompson's role appears safe (11 points, 12 rebounds in 38 minutes).

Sat Feb 2 201300:47Speights goes for 17 and eight vs. Pistons
Marreese Speights scored 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting with eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a rare 3-pointer in 29 minutes off the bench on Friday.
Tyler Zeller (two points, two boards) played 17 foul-plagued minutes and the starters were yanked in the fourth quarter. Zeller's effort isn't an issue like the rest of his teammates, but his talent and consistency is. With Speights sending a shot across the bow in their position battle, we could be looking at a value-killing timeshare and if owners have dead weight they could theoretically take a flier on Speights.

Marreese Speights had 17 points, five rebounds, a steal and a block off the Cavs bench on Saturday.
He had 10 points and six boards on Friday, and is officially worth a close eye in fantasy, despite coming off the bench for the Cavs.

Fri Jan 25 201322:51Speights scores 10 points with six boards
Marreese Speights scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting with six rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes on Friday.
Speights is going to be eased into the action regardless, and for now he is only worth a look in deeper leagues.

Fri Jan 25 201311:39Change of plans: Speights available Friday
Updating a previous item, Byron Scott changed his mind and Marreese Speights will be available to play on Friday.
Speights will make his Cavs debut. We'd expect 20-25 minutes for Speights as the team desperately needs relief for their young big men Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller as each has been playing big minutes since Anderson Varejao went down.
