Wed Jan 23 201316:49Cavs' new additions still not cleared to play
Recent trade additions Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington and Josh Selby have yet to be cleared to suit up for the Cavaliers.
According to beat writer Tom Withers, the delay stems from issues with the players' physical exams and other paperwork. Thankfully, the Cavs don't play again until Friday and all three should be ready to go by then. Out of the three, Speights remains the most likely fantasy contributor for the rest of the season, although he will do so in a reserve role.

Tue Jan 22 201314:20Speights under contract for two more years
Newly acquired Cavs PF Marreese Speights has a player option in 2013/14 for $4.5 million.
Speights is likely to pick up the option and the Cavs know that. In other words, they didn't acquire him as a mere expiring, empty contract. Speights won't play Tuesday night, but once assimilated to his new team he's a good bet to push for 20-25 minutes off the bench behind Tyler Zeller and Tristan Thompson. Zeller in particular was being stretched too far at 34.7 minutes a night over the last 10 games.

Tue Jan 22 201308:52Report: Cavs, Grizz have Speights deal done
The Cavs have agreed to trade Marreese Speights and Josh Selby to the Cavs for Josh Selby, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Picks are also thought to be involved in the deal. It's not quite the blockbuster deal that so many expected the Grizzlies to complete before the trade deadline, but it would be a move that sheds some money off of Memphis' books. Speights would be a solid acquisition for a Cavs team that just lost Anderson Varejao for the season and has the most to gain from a fantasy perspective in this deal.

Sat Jan 19 201300:52Speights nears double-double vs. Kings
Marreese Speights started for Zach Randolph (back) on Friday against the Kings, scoring 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting with nine rebounds, two assist, and one steal in 27 minutes.
Speights is going to be worth a spot play if Randolph misses more time, while the same can be said for Darrell Arthur (25 minutes, seven points, seven rebounds, one steal, three blocks) in deeper formats.

Fri Jan 18 201315:10Marreese Speights expected to start Friday
Marreese Speights is expected to start Friday's game against the Kings.
Zach Randolph (lower back strain) is out Friday and considered day to day going forward. Speights is certainly capable of a big game as he showed last time Z-Bo sat (22 points, 13 rebounds on Jan. 4), but he's wildly inconsistent. In 54 starts last season, the ex-Sixer averaged 9.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.5 blocks.

Sat Jan 5 201303:47Speights goes for 22 and 13 with Z-Bo out
Marreese Speights started for Zach Randolph (flu) and scored 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting with 13 rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes on Friday.
Speights would be worth a look for spot-duty if there is news that Randolph will miss more time, but that seems unlikely for a garden-variety illness.

Sat Dec 1 201204:24Speights comes back to earth with six points
Marreese Speights came back to earth on Friday against the Pistons, scoring six points on 3-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds and one steal in 17 minutes.
Speights had 18 points, nine boards, and two blocks in 22 minutes on Wednesday, but we cautioned owners then to let it pass and tonight he showed why that was the case.

Thu Nov 8 201200:23Marreese Speights has big line off bench
Marreese Speights came off the bench and somehow posted 18 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in just 22 minutes.
Last season's owners would have killed for this type of line while Speights was filling in for Zach Randolph, but it just never came together. Randolph and Marc Gasol are both healthy and playing well, so this looks like a fluke. Ignore Speights unless he starts playing this well on a regular basis, which is highly unlikely.

Wed Oct 17 201208:30Marreese Speights committed to improving
Marreese Speights said that he's in the best shape of his life, while teammates Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol agreed with the assessment.
Speights has had a reputation for a lazy work ethic, but it sounds like he's intent to shed that label after a productive season for the Grizzlies last year. Gasol said that Speights was "getting better," while Gay said that the big man has "shown everybody what he can do." With Darrell Arthur (leg) recovering, Speights will serve as Zach Randolph's primary backup.

Fri Jul 13 201220:08Grizzlies sign Marreese Speights on Friday
The Grizzlies signed PF Marreese Speights on Friday.
Speights got a two-year deal for approximately $8 million and will provide depth behind Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. He'll enter the year with no fantasy value outside the deepest of leagues.

Fri Jul 6 201200:18Speights agrees to two-year deal with Memphis
The Grizzlies agreed to a two-year deal with PF Marreese Speights on Thursday.
The deal is for approximately $8 million and gives the Grizzlies serviceable depth behind Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. Until he clears up questions about his defense and basketball IQ, he'll be a question mark whenever he eventually gets pressed into action. The second year of the deal is a team option.

Fri Jun 29 201213:06Grizzlies make Speights a restricted FA
The Grizzlies have offered a $4.4 million qualifying offer to Marreese Speights, making him a restricted FA.
Speights is an intriguing PF/C with a solid offensive game, but he's not much of a defender. Last season he averaged 8.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 22 minutes per game, and he's unlikely to draw many big offers.

Tue Apr 24 201200:04Speights goes for 17 and 10 in win over Cavs
Marreese Speights scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting with 10 rebounds, one steal, and one block in 31 minutes on Monday against the Cavs.
Speights is in a great position to mop up minutes if the Grizzlies decide to rest up for the playoffs. As of right now, the Clippers' magic number over Memphis is 'one.' Consider Speights a solid option heading into Thursday's finale at home against the Magic.

Sat Apr 14 201222:51Speights, Randolph quiet in win
Marreese Speights and Zach Randolph were quiet in Saturday's tough win over the Jazz, as Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol stole many of their rebounding opportunities.
Speights had just four points and three rebounds in 18 minutes, while Z-Bo added seven points and six rebounds in 30 minutes. Gay had 28 points and 12 boards in the win, while Gasol added 17 points, nine boards and three blocks on the night. Speights had been offering value, but has been very hit-or-miss over his last five games. With three games next week, you can probably find better options than Speights or Randolph on waivers.

Thu Apr 12 201223:41Speights goes for 15 and seven vs. SA
Marreese Speights scored 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting with seven rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes on Thursday against the Spurs.
Dare we say that Speights has shown relative consistency, though his lower minute totals and the return of Tony Allen (mouth) are certainly risks for owners to consider going forward.

Tue Apr 10 201201:14Speights nears double-double vs. Clippers
Marreese Speights scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting with eight rebounds and two assists in Monday's win over the Clippers.
Speights played 24 minutes and while that's a bit unnerving, this is a nice start to his five-game week. It's hard to say for sure, but it's possible he holds low-end value throughout the week. Zach Randolph hasn't completely elbowed him out.

Sat Apr 7 201201:42Speights scores 15 points with five boards
Marreese Speights scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with five rebounds, one assist, and one block in 25 minutes on Friday against the Heat.
It's outings like these, imperfect as they may be, that will make Speights worth using during the Grizzlies' upcoming five-game week. The good news is that he performed well with Zach Randolph also playing 29 minutes and going for 14 and 14. It's worth nothing that Tony Allen was out tonight, however.

Tue Apr 3 201201:08Speights posts near double doulbe vs. OKC
Marreese Speights scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting with 13 rebounds and one steal in 21 minutes on Monday against the Thunder.
It's not pretty, but this gets it done for owners that started Speights in the Grizzlies' five-game week. As for his long-term future, that's still very much in the air, regardless of what Zach Randolph does in his on-court rehab.

Sat Mar 31 201202:28Speights plays 12 minutes on Friday vs. HOU
Marreese Speights played just 12 minutes on Friday against the Rockets.
This is why we can't get fully behind Speights, and it will take some injury help or another sustained period of productivity for us to consider using him in the upcoming five-game weeks. He finished with two points and seven boards on 1-of-6 shooting tonight.
