Thu Jan 2 2014 | 14:52 | Greg Smith (knee) may return to action vs. NY |
Greg Smith (knee) has resumed practicing and could return to action vs. New York on Friday. |
Smith has appeared in just eight games this season, as he's been unable to shake his knee injuries. Even if he manages to stay on the court this time, he won't have fantasy value as long as Dwight Howard and Terrence Jones are healthy. |

Greg Smith (knee) will not play against the Pelicans on Saturday. |
He's been dealing with knee and quad issues over the past week and has no timetable to return. Smith was the backup center for the Rockets, so this will put more on Terrence Jones' plate tonight. Jones is worth owning in all leagues. |

Tue Dec 24 2013 | 12:08 | Greg Smith (knee) will not play Christmas Day |
Greg Smith (knee) will not play against the Spurs on Christmas Day. |
Smith had been in line for some playing time if Omer Asik had been traded, but since a trade never came to fruition, fantasy owners can go back to forgetting about the now-injured Smith. Terrence Jones should continue to see more minutes at center as long as Asik (thigh) and Smith are out. |

Greg Smith won't play on Monday due to ongoing pain in his right quad. |
He's hoping to return for Wednesday's road game vs. the Spurs. Fantasy owners can safely ignore him, as he's scored double-digit points just once all season and hasn't been able to stay healthy. |

Sat Dec 21 2013 | 20:24 | Greg Smith (knee) will not return on Sat. |
Greg Smith suffered a knee injury in the first half of Saturday's game against the Pistons and will not return. |
It's an injury to his right knee and the details have not emerged just yet. Smith suffered a sprained LCL last month and missed 19 games. The Rockets don't have a backup center behind Dwight Howard with Omer Asik (thigh) out due to injury and will likely have to lean a little more on Howard. Terrence Jones has received minutes at center before and that would appear to be the short-term fix for now. |

Thu Dec 19 2013 | 10:32 | Greg Smith to takeover Rockets' backup C role |
Greg Smith will take over as the Rockets' backup center in the event that Houston trades Omer Asik as planned. |
With Asik as good as gone from Houston as soon as Thursday, Smith will slide into the Rockets backup center spot behind Dwight Howard according to coach Kevin McHale. "I think Greg will get the minutes," McHale said. "We've been looking for another big body, especially when Dwight [Howard] goes out." Smith has been serviceable in the two games he's played this season, averaging 5.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. He's not worth worrying about in shallower leagues, but the third-year player out of Fresno State could be a valuable big man in deeper leagues if his minutes starting creeping up over 20 if (when) Asik is traded. |

Wed Dec 11 2013 | 12:50 | Greg Smith (knee) targeting Sunday return |
Greg Smith (knee) expects to return for Sunday's game vs. the Kings. |
Smith will likely have a spot waiting for him in the rotation, especially with Omer Asik on the sidelines, but he's not deserving of a fantasy roster spot while Terrence Jones and Dwight Howard are healthy. Conditioning may also be an issue in Smith's first few games, as he hasn't played since hurting himself in mid-November. |

Greg Smith (sprained knee) did some on-court activity on Tuesday and could return to practice as soon as Saturday. |
The Rockets could use Smith with Omer Asik (thigh) out of commission for at least a week, but his fantasy value is minimal as long as Dwight Howard is healthy and Terrence Jones is starting at PF. |

Greg Smith (knee) said that he would play on Friday but he was ruled out prior to the game. |
Players can often be more optimistic than teams when it comes to returns from injury, and it's also probable he's simply out of the rotation. Until he shows something, he can remain on the wire in the vast majority of formats. |

Wed Nov 27 2013 | 12:01 | Greg Smith (knee) will return on Friday |
Greg Smith (sprained knee) said that he will play vs. the Nets on Friday. |
Smith barely played before injuring himself on Nov. 14, and with Omer Asik active there isn't much wiggle room in the Rockets' frontcourt. Leave him on the waiver wire. |

The MRI on Greg Smith's right knee was negative and he was diagnosed with a sprain. |
This is great news for the Rockets, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Omer Asik. Smith has a sprained LCL and is not expected to miss much time. Terrence Jones could serve as the backup center as well as the starting power forward while the Rockets continue to play small ball. |

Greg Smith played 22 minutes against the Grizzlies on Friday and had six points, seven boards and two blocks. |
He played just 21 minutes in his last three games, so coach Kevin McHale gave him some run in the second half while he rested his started. Donatas Motiejunas scored 10 points with eight boards and could be an option at power forward. D-Mo is more of a watch-list player than someone to draft in most formats. |

Greg Smith (hip) returned to practice on Thursday. |
He has been out for all of 2013 camp with a strained right hip. Smith is in the mix to start at power forward, but he isn't likely to contribute in the box score outside of rebounds with a handful of points. |

Sun Sep 29 2013 | 15:20 | Greg Smith resting for Sunday practice |
Greg Smith is not practicing on Sunday due to a strained right hip. |
He's getting close and should be ready to go for some preseason action. The Rockets could use him to help their second unit and he was surprisingly able to keep up with the fast-paced Rockets last season. He won't have much value as long as the Omer Asik-Dwight Howard combo isn't a flop. |
