Sun Jan 30 201117:38Gilbert Arenas sits due to knee trouble
Gilbert Arenas will not be playing for the Orlando Magic Sunday due to arthritis trouble associated with his surgically-repaired right knee.
Arenas has simply been awful and it looks like his knee can't handle the demands of an NBA season at this point. With his level of play in recent months and the specter of regular bouts of knee trouble, there really isn't a compelling reason to have him on your roster.

Sat Jan 29 201110:58Arenas' healthy changes w/ the weather
Gilbert Arenas said that his health fluctuates with the weather, but added that there is "nothing structurally wrong."
"Really high humidity and places that's cold, it gets in my joints," Arenas said. "You know how they say, 'I know when it's going to rain'? Well, I know when it's raining." He suffers from arthritis and isn't likely to improve soon -- unless Jameer Nelson misses games, Arenas is a sketchy-at-best fantasy option.

Sat Jan 29 201100:38Arenas still can't produce w/ Nelson injured
Gilbert Arenas played 32 minutes but had just 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and a three on 5-of-13 shooting in Friday's loss to the Bulls.
Jameer Nelson left this one early, which makes Arenas' line look even worse. If you want to drop him, we have no problem with it, as Stan Van Gundy appears to be content to let him sit on the bench when Nelson, whose injury doesn't sound serious, is healthy.
Fri Jan 28 201116:15Gilbert Arenas still slowed by ailing knee
Gilbert Arenas has been bothered by arthritis in his surgically-repaired left knee, and Dwight Howard even said he is "playing on one leg."
"He hasn't had a great opportunity to do all the things that he wants to do, but it'll come with time," Howard said of Arenas. "Once he gets the other leg straight, I think we'll see a new Gilbert." For now, Arenas is simply staying in shape, playing fewer minutes, and receiving treatment whenever possible. Fantasy owners shouldn't be expecting a quick turnaround.

Wed Jan 26 201122:27Arenas plays 21 minutes in easy win
Gilbert Arenas played 21 minutes for eight points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal in Wednesday's easy win.
It looks like Stan Van Gundy decided to give him run in the second half with the game essentially over, so don't get too excited. Ryan Anderson played the same amount of minutes, despite getting hot in the first half.
Mon Jan 24 201122:48Arenas gets the defensive call on Monday
Gilbert Arenas continued to suffer in the fantasy basement on Monday, scoring nine points on 3-of-7 shooting with three rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes, but was brought into the game in some key situations for defense.
This shouldn't change his status as a guy that most owners should have dropped by now, but a player with his talent and his contract invariably needs to be watched from afar. Defense will be the first thing that gets him back into a significant role, so it's worth keeping an eye on.
Sun Jan 23 201100:42Arenas slowly improving, still not producing
Gilbert Arenas scored four points on 2-of-4 shooting with five rebounds and five assists in 20 minutes off the bench on Saturday.
Believe it or not this is an improvement for him over his recent games, but it's nowhere near the improvement that owners are calling for. The presence of Jameer Nelson, Jason Richardson, and J.J. Redick kills any upside that he would have, so stashing him while he labors through the growing pains of playing for Stan Van Gundy doesn't make much sense.
Sat Jan 22 201102:11Gilbert Arenas returned to action on Friday January 21
Gilbert Arenas returned to action on Friday January 21.
Fri Jan 21 201121:15Kirk Hinrich leaves with arm injury
Kirk Hinrich left Friday's game with a right arm injury and went to the locker room.
This didn't look good, as he didn't appear to be able to lift his arm. Given the fact the game is almost over, he won't be back tonight.

Thu Jan 20 201110:09Arenas barely playing for Van Gundy
Gilbert Arenas is averaging just 16.8 minutes a night over the last five games.
Arenas is getting used to playing for Stan Van Gundy, who is known for his quick hook. "Now, it's like you're just out there playing not to make mistakes instead of just playing. It's just something you just get used to," Arenas said. Van Gundy will eventually get a little more trust in Arenas, but the best he can do is make it an even timeshare with Jameer Nelson. There's not much upside here.

Wed Jan 19 201116:23Magic starting lineup won't change, says SVG
Despite frequently getting off to slow starts, Stan Van Gundy won't change the Magic's starting lineup.
SVG likes the way the second unit is playing together, as Ryan Anderson and J.J. Redick in particular have stepped up lately. On the other hand, when asked why Gilbert Arenas' minutes have dipped, Van Gundy responded, "He hasn't been playing as well." We're hopeful, but not too optimistic, that Arenas will find a groove in the next few weeks.

Mon Jan 17 201123:11Arenas plays 16 minutes, is hard to own
Gilbert Arenas played just 16 minutes on Monday against the Celtics, scoring seven points on 2-of-6 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds, two assists, a steal, and three turnovers.
Whatever the reasons may be, he unfortunately is not a must-own player anymore and he will start to show up on waiver wires if he hasn't already. We still think stashing him is a good idea given his contract and upside, but if you're struggling then it makes sense to drop him for a productive player.
Sun Jan 16 201102:08Arenas posts seven points, seven assists
Gilbert Arenas played 22 minutes off the bench on Saturday, scoring seven points on 2-of-9 shooting with three rebounds and seven assists.
His 37 percent shooting entering tonight for the Magic is bad even by his own standards, but the assists are a nice touch in the midst of total disaster for Arenas and his owners. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising to learn that he is limited or hurt. After all -- the guy has played just 81 games since the conclusion of the 2006-07 season.
Fri Jan 14 201100:24Arenas settling into 18 minutes, no value
The total dissapearecne of Gilbert Arenas continued on Thursday against the Thunder. He scored nine points--all in the first half--and had five assists. He played 19 minutes.
Since the trade, he is averaging 10 points and four assists while shooting 37% from the floor and 67% from the line. He has played less than 20 minutes in three of the last five games. It's hard to believe the Magic are playing close to $20 million for this, and he is going to begin showing up on waiver wires very soon.
Thu Jan 13 201100:05Arenas plays just 14 minutes for Magic
Gilbert Arenas hit just 2-of-5 shots in 14 minutes off the Magic bench for four points, two rebounds and two assists in Wednesday's loss to the Hornets.
Yuck. He's not getting enough run to make a fantasy impact for the Magic, even though the guys who were getting minutes struggled tonight. Jameer Nelson was 1-of-9, Hedo Turkoglu was 2-of-10, Brandon Bass was 3-of-13 and J.J. Redick was 2-of-11. If Arenas can't get on the court when his teammates are struggling, we're trying to figure out why the Magic even dealt for him. Bench him until further notice.
Fri Jan 7 201123:35Arenas struggles for Magic continue
Gilbert Arenas hit just 3-of-9 shots for eight points, four rebounds and four assists in Friday's win.
He's on the cusp of having value and should be held in most leagues, but the simple fact is the Magic are just too deep for many players to be fantasy studs. Maybe someone will get hurt and Arenas will start getting run, but for now you're better off keeping him on your bench.
Tue Jan 4 201110:34Arenas on floor for defense?
Coach Stan Van Gundy said that Gilbert Arenas played the entire fourth quarter Monday night because of his exceptional defense.
Arenas was a notoriously poor defender even before knee injuries sapped some of his quickness. But Jameer Nelson is among the worst in the league. So Nelson played just 8 minutes, 41 seconds in the second half last night. This has the ugly look of a timeshare.

Mon Jan 3 201123:08Arenas plays 26 minutes, struggles vs. GSW
Gilbert Arenas scored 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting (1-of-6 from downtown) with no rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 26 minutes off the bench on Monday.
Once again J.J. Redick led the team in bench minutes with 26 total, scoring 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting (all four makes were threes) with no rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The backcourt is crowded right now, but it still feels like Arenas will have better value later in the year.
Thu Dec 30 201022:25Arenas and Nelson split the PG minutes
Gilbert Arenas and Jameer Nelson split the point guard minutes on Thursday in a win against the Knicks. They combined for exactly 48:00 minutes, and didn't share the court for a second. They both posted mediocre lines, scoring 10 points apiece, with seven assists for Nelson and six for Arenas.
What has got to be irritating for fantasy owners is that J.J. Redick played 35 minutes. It would be nice if StanVan would play them at the same time, but for now it is what it is--a timeshare of two otherwise valuable players.
Tue Dec 28 201022:08Arenas posts 22-6-11 line with five treys
Gilbert Arenas scored 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting (including five threes) with six rebounds, 11 assists, and three steals in 32 minutes off the bench against the Cavs on Tuesday.
The Cavs have struggled to defend the perimeter this year, and Arenas made them pay repeatedly. If owners were wondering where his value would stand after a few bad outings, this is your answer. Coming off the bench he will struggle for consistency, but nights like these will make him worth owning and starting.
