Kenyon Martin says he's resting during Wednesday's preseason game in preparation for the "real show."

He says he's healthy and ready to go for the real season, but his first injury could be just around the corner. It's hard to see him having much fantasy value given the fact he should be playing limited minutes.

Kenyon Martin and Tyson Chandler were both held out of Friday's practice for precautionary reasons.

There's nothing to see here. Neither player needs to be pushing it hard at this stage of the preseason and we'll let you know if anything worsens.

He did some work on the stationary bike and coach Mike Woodson said Martin's health is "good." The Knick keeping Martin may have been wiser than they thought given the issues with Amare Stoudemire's knees, but he's still unlikely to see a major role while Andrea Bargnani and Tyson Chandler are healthy.

The Knicks' interest in retaining Martin wasn't a secret. The veteran forward was a steal after the Knicks signed him during the season. It sounds like the Knicks won't be able to bring on Elton Brand and the they could use the $1.7 million left in their mid-level exception on K-Mart. Martin would fit the bill for what the Knicks need as a bench big, but they're is also interest in players like Brandan Wright.

He's played for 60 percent of those teams in his his 13-year career. K-Mart's knees were never really in good shape and at 35 years old, he's unlikely to get multiple years on his contract. He scored 8.8 points per game in his 11 starts last year as an emergency-type option for the Knicks last season.

Knicks beat writer Frank Isola theorizes Kenyon Martin could end up in Brooklyn if the Nets execute their reported trade for Kevin Garnett.

The rumored deal would gut Brooklyn of much of its front-court depth while also saddling it with some heavy-duty contracts for the 2013-14 season. Martin wouldn't cost much and showed he's still useful during his run with the Knicks last season. Also worth noting is the mutual affinity between Martin and new Nets coach Jason Kidd, who were teammates with the Knicks last year and with the Nets years back.

Martin's protective wrist wear is "precautionary" and the "sore wrist isn't considered extensive," but it's not clear exactly what the injury actually is. He wasn't on the injury report prior to Thursday's Game 5, so we're guessing this is nothing serious.

Martin led the team with seven rebounds on Saturday, which was a massive area of weakness for the Knicks. They allowed 18 offensive rebounds and 20 second-chance points to the Pacers, so that'll have to be something the Knicks will need to fix by Tuesday. K-Mart should be ready.

Mike Woodson says Amare Stoudemire won't affect Kenyon Martin minutes whenever STAT returns from knee surgery.

Martin has been excellent since signing with New York and his presence on defense has been noticeable. Woodson says STAT and Martin could play together with Martin aiding Stoudemire on the defensive side of the ball. Of course, none of this is an issue just yet as Stoudemire is still not ready to return to the lineup.
