Finnegan was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

This move corresponds to Jason Vargas getting placed on the DL, but Finnegan will be used in a relief role with Joe Blanton taking the spot in the rotation. Finnegan has thrown 59 pitches in each of his last three appearances, so he is capable of being used as something of a long man, but it would still be tough for him to generate much fantasy value in the short term.

Finnegan was optioned to Triple-A Omaha after Monday's game.

Finnegan was recalled Monday for some emergency depth, and sure enough, the left-hander was needed for three innings after starter Jeremy Guthrie could only record three outs. He was sent right back down with the team needing to clear room for Tuesday's starter, Jason Vargas, but Finnegan figures to be up on a more permanent basis in the second half.

Finnegan provided the Royals with three scoreless innings of relief Monday, striking out two and walking just one on the afternoon.

Finnegan was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Monday morning, and fortunately for the Royals his flight arrived on time, as starter Jeremy Guthrie failed to record a single out in the second inning before allowing 11 earned runs. If there was any bright spot on the day for the Royals, it's that Finnegan was near-flawless, making quick work of some of the Yankees' best hitters. He'll likely head back to Omaha following the game in order to make room for Tuesday's starter, Jason Vargas (elbow), but this won't be the last we see of him this season.

Finnegan will take the place of Danny Duffy (shoulder) on the teams 25-man roster with his move to the disabled list. While Finnegan was moved to the minors to get stretched out as a starter, his role with the Royals will likely include rejoining the team's bullpen, as Jason Vargas was announced as Tuesday's starter in Duffy's place.

Finnegan was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Matthew DeFranks of Fox Sports Kansas City reports.

Finnegan followed up his successful end to the 2014 season with a solid showing in 6.2 innings in the big leagues this year before being sent back to Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Working as both a starter and reliever there, the lefty posted a 2.77 ERA but struggled with his command as he sported a 13:12 K:BB ratio. Finnegan will likely continue to be stretched out as a starter at Triple-A, but could see some action out of the Royals' bullpen at some point this year.

Finnegan was optioned to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Thursday, the Kansas City Star's Andy McCullough reports.

With Luke Hochevar coming off the DL, the Royals had no more need of Finnegan, so he will go back to Double-A to continue to develop as a starting pitcher. The plan is to have Finnegan stretch out to about 60 pitches at Northwest Arkansas. He will be an interesting test case as the organization keeps changing his role to fill needs while continuing to also develop him as a starter. It may not be the best thing for the player, but it would not be surprising to see him back in the big league bullpen at some point this season if there is a need.

Finnegan was recalled by the Royals on Friday, Fox Sports Kansas City's Joel Goldberg reports.

The Royals' game against the White Sox went 13 innings Thursday, so the bullpen could use some reinforcements. It would seem likely that once everything gets back to normal in the Royals' bullpen Finnegan will be sent back down to Double-A Northwest Arkansas to continue to develop as a starter. His stuff has looked good so far this season as his arm is less fatigued than it was in the postseason last year. He is a top-100 prospect by many accounts for those in dynasty leagues, thanks to a mid-90s fastball and two secondary offerings that have shown plus potential. However, in the short term he will also offer some potential in single-season leagues thanks to the potential to rack up strikeouts with strong ratios out of the big league bullpen.

Finnegan will open his season in the starting rotation for Triple-A Omaha, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.

This is the preferred scenario for Finnegan's owners, as a spot in the big-league bullpen would likely mean a middle relief role. The right-hander will have his pitch counts monitored closely while in the minors, but he could very well become a member of the big-league rotation by the end of the season.

Finnegan will make two more Cactus League appearances before the Royals determine whether to use him as a starter or reliever, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

With the Royals already boasting a strong bullpen, Finnegan will need to serve as a starter to warrant consideration in most leagues. If he's used out of the bullpen, he will likely see most of his work in the sixth and seventh innings.
