LHP Brandon Finnegan admitted after Monday night's outing that he was pitching with a tight hamstring. He allowed three runs and six hits over six innings and 90 pitches on Monday, but said the hamstring bothered him from the third inning on. "He started having problems in the third inning," said manager Bryan Price. "We were more aggressive (leaving him in) than I normally would be."

LHP Brandon Finnegan pitched into the seventh inning for just the second time in nine big league starts Tuesday but didn't factor into the decision after he gave up a game-tying home run to the final batter he faced in what turned out to be the Reds' 4-3 loss to the Mets. Finnegan allowed one hit through five innings and carried a three-hit shutout into the seventh, when he waked CF Juan Lagares with one out before giving up a single to C Kevin Plawecki. Manager Bryan Price visited the mound but decided to stay with Finnegan, who surrendered a three-run homer to PH Yoenis Cespedes on the next pitch. Finnegan ended up allowing the three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five. He finished one out shy of his career-long outing. In five starts this season, Finnegan is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

LHP Brandon Finnegan will look to bounce back from the shortest start of his career when he takes the mound for the Reds on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series against the New York Mets at Citi Field. Finnegan took the loss last Thursday, when he allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over four innings as the Reds were no-hit Chicago Cubs RHP Jake Arrieta in a 16-0 loss. This will be Finnegan's first career appearance against the Mets.

LHP Brandon Finnegan held the Cubs hitless until the seventh inning when he faced them on April 11 at Wrigley Field. Dexter Fowler ended the no-hit bid Thursday with a leadoff double in the first inning. Two batters later, Kris Bryant launched a 1-0 pitch 420 feet into the upper deck in left. Finnegan wound up allowing five earned runs and seven hits in four innings. "His main problem was pitch execution," manager Bryan Price said. "His fastball was running off the plate to right-handers. He wasn't as sharp as the last time. He wasn't as good in the zone. They took an aggressive approach, and we were behind the 8-ball pretty quick."

LHP Brandon Finnegan posted his first victory of the season on Saturday, allowing four runs and four hits in five innings, including a three-run homer to Stephen Piscotty. All four of the runs scored by the Cardinals in the second inning and were unearned because of a fielding error by center fielder Scott Schebler.

Finnegan set a career high in innings pitched, pitches thrown (111) and walks (five). He has gone at least five innings in all six of his career starts. He became the first Reds starter to allow one or fewer hits in at least 6 2/3 innings since Mat Latos gave up one hit in seven innings on June 30, 2014, at San Diego.

LHP Brandon Finnegan set career highs with six innings pitched and nine strikeouts on Wednesday night. Finnegan focused on his changeup late in Spring Training. Manager Bryan Price, a former pitching coach, believes the change is a difference maker for the 22-year-old lefty. "His ability to show it last year was a big part of his success in his four starts." Price said. "For a guy who is a fastball and hard curveball pitcher, the change up is a big pitch. His isn't a swing-and-miss change up. They foul off a lot of pitches off him and the change up is a pitch that they can put in play early in the count to keep his pitch count down." Finnegan went 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA in six appearances including four starts after being acquired in the Johnny Cueto trade with Kansas City.

Finnegan (2-2) surrendered three hits, an earned run and two walks in six innings in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Reds. He struck out six.

The rookie southpaw acquitted himself well in his fourth career start, and had the distinction of securing the victory over 17-year veteran A.J. Burnett's last regular-season appearance. Saturday's outing was easily Finnegan's best to date, and marked the furthest he'd pitched into a game. Finnegan also threw a career-high 88 pitches and did not surrender a homer for the first time in those four starting assignments. Except for a tough Sept. 23 appearance against the Cardinals, Finnegan performed well for the Reds since a July trade from the Royals. He will look to compete for a spot in the starting rotation in 2016 after closing out his rookie campaign on a positive note.

Finnegan (1-2) surrendered eight hits, three earned runs and two walks in five innings in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Nationals. He struck out three.

The young southpaw suffered his second consecutive loss, and has now surrendered at least one homer in each of his three starts in 2015. The 83 pitches he threw Monday were a season high, but Finnegan managed to only get 47 of them in the strike zone, and induced only five swings-and misses overall. Finnegan certainly offers plenty of potential, with a mid-90s fastball as part of his repertoire. He figures to get one more opportunity to take the mound in 2015, likely this coming Saturday against the Pirates.

Finnegan (4-1) was touched up for six earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven in a 10-2 loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Finnegan's second start of the season didn't go nearly as well as his first, as the southpaw gave up home runs to Randal Grichuk, Matt Carpenter, and Matt Holliday. Outings like these are to be expected from Finnegan, who will require a learning curve in his first full season as a starting pitcher. Finnegan possesses a live arm and plenty of fantasy potential, but is still a work-in-progress for the time being.

The Reds couldn't have asked for much more from Finnegan, who was making his first big-league start after 16 appearances out of the bullpen for Cincinnati and Kansas City this season. With the team looking to rest Raisel Iglesias, Finnegan may get a few more starts down the stretch.

Finnegan will start Friday's game in Milwaukee in place of Raisel Igleias.

He made eight starts at Triple-A Louisville before getting the call to Cincinnati in September, posting a 6.23 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 30.1 innings. Finnegan went just two innings on Sept. 11 against the Cards and two-thirds of an inning on Sept. 13, so he'll likely be under a tight pitch count Friday night against the Brewers.

Finnegan was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Acquired from the Royals in the Johnny Cueto deal, Finnegan has spent the past month-and-a-half at Louisville being stretched out as a starter. He worked as both a starter and a reliever as a member of the Royals organization, but the Reds appear intent on making him a full-time starter. The transition hasn't been smooth, however, as he's posted an ugly 6.23 ERA across eight starts (30.1 innings) with Louisville. How often he'll be used at the major league level over the next few weeks remains to be seen, but given the Reds' status as the NL Central doormat, they'll likely be willing to line Finnegan up for a start or two.

The Reds will use Finnegan as a starter and send him to Triple-A Louisville to stretch him out.

The Royals have primarily used Finnegan as a reliever to get him to the majors quicker, but he was drafted as a starter and likely would have converted to starting in their organization too. He, John Lamb and Tony Cingrani will all be up with the big club at some point.

Finnegan was traded to the Reds as part of the Johnny Cueto trade on Sunday, the Roayls announced.

Finnegan had been mentioned as one of the returning players for Cueto earlier in the day, but it's now official with him as the headliner of the deal. He's a majors-ready prospect that has already seen action out of the bullpen, but the Royals had been trying to keep him as a starter in the minors. The 22-year-old has struggled in Triple-A through 2015, with a 7.07 ERA and 1.714 WHIP in 14.0 innings. His value will be tied to which role the Reds see him in going forward.

Finnegan was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Finnegan covered two scoreless innings en route to capturing the win Saturday, so his demotion was likely just a measure by manager Ned Yost to get a fresh arm in his bullpen. Yohan Pino was recalled in a corresponding move, but don't expect Finnegan to sit around in the minors for long. He's been quite serviceable in long relief this season, providing a 2.96 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 24.1 innings.

Finnegan recorded his third win of the season Saturday, striking out two over two scoreless innings.

Finnegan's ERA took a bit of a hit in the days leading up to the All-Star break following a three-run appearance, but it still sits as a respectable 2.96 mark on the year. Despite a 7.8 K/9, the young left-hander is simply too far down the pecking order in a crowded Kansas City bullpen to make a major fantasy splash in 2015.

Finnegan was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

He was recalled after Alex Gordon was placed on the DL, and will be a heavily used bullpen arm for the rest of the first half. Finnegan is a top-200 prospect based on his upside as a starter, but the Royals continue to interrupt his development on that front, so it remains to be seen when he will be fully developed for the rotation.

Finnegan was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Kansas City reports.

The 22-year-old tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader, lowering his ERA to 2.21, and it seems this move was made simply to get him some work and keep him fresh during the All-Star break. Aaron Brooks was brought up, but he figures to head right back down Thursday when the team activates Yordano Ventura (arm) to make his scheduled start.
