Wed Apr 6 202218:33Tylor Megill Officially Named Opening Day Starter
The New York Mets have officially named Tylor Megill the team's Opening Day starting pitcher. He will take the mound on Thursday against the Washington Nationals. He'll be followed by Max Scherzer (hamstring) on Friday, then Chris Bassitt on Saturday. Megill had his first exposure to the majors last year. He made 18 starts and went 4-6 with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He had some concerning underlying stats last year, including a 10% barrel rate that ranked in the bottom 14% of the league and a 25% chase rate that ranked in the bottom 18% of the league. Luckily, he has a relatively favorable matchup against the Nationals to kick off the 2022 campaign. We'll see if he can get the injury-riddled Mets off to a good start to the year.

Wed Apr 6 202211:30Tylor Megill Likely To Start Opening Day
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill is expected to start on Opening Day versus the Washington Nationals. Max Scherzer (hamstring) is likely to start on Friday, while Chris Bassitt gets the nod on Saturday. However, there's a chance that Thursday's contest does get rained out. The 26-year-old was average with the Mets last season. He posted a 4.52 ERA with 99 strikeouts and 27 walks through 18 starts. Hopefully, Megill improves in 2022, but he'll likely end up as a back end starter.

Sat Oct 2 202100:09Tylor Megill Allows One Hit Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill allowed just one hit and one walk in five shutout innings in his final start of 2021 against the Atlanta Braves Friday. He struck out six batters and earned his fourth win of the season. Megill finishes the year with a 4.52 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 99 strikeouts in 89 2/3 innings. He burst onto the scene this year, raising his profile and fantasy relevance significantly. He'll enter 2022 as a streaming option if, as appears likely, he makes the Mets rotation out of spring training.

Sat Sep 25 202110:13Tylor Megill Victimized By Long Ball On Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went only four innings on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing four earned runs on five hits, including three home runs and four walks in the Mets 5-1 loss. Megill struck out only two batters en route to his sixth loss of the season, dropping his record to 3-6. After a superb July in which Megill posted a 1.04 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over five starts and 26 innings pitched, he has struggled in August and September despite sprinkling in a few quality starts over those two months. In September, Megill now owns a 1-3 record with a bloated 7.20 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 23 strikeouts over 20 innings in four starts. Megill's recent struggles could be attributed to fatigue, given the fact that he has now thrown 125 innings on the season between the majors and minors. His previous high was 71 2/3 innings in 2019 in the minors. Nonetheless, Megill showed his potential back in July and makes for a solid later-round selection in redraft formats heading into 2022. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats should hang on to Megill given his high strikeout potential (93 strikeouts in 84 2/3 IP) and his strong, consistent performance earlier this summer.

Sat Sep 11 202109:48Tylor Megill Strikes Out Ten Yankees On Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went seven very solid innings to pick up his third win of the season on Friday in the Mets 10-3 victory over the Yankees. Megill (3-4) allowed just two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters. It was, arguably, the best start of his rookie season where he recorded the most strikeouts in any one game and went seven innings for the first time this season. Megill now owns a 4.06 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and an 88:20 K:BB ratio over 77 2/3 innings pitched and 15 starts. It has been an impressive season for Megill who has surprised the Mets and fantasy managers alike with his production. His numbers are even more impressive if his August 24 shellacking (where he lasted only 3 2/3 IP) against the Giants is removed. Without that start, he would own an impressive 3.41 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 74 IP. Fantasy managers should continue to activate Megill for his remaining starts in 2021. He will next face the Cardinals at home on Wednesday.

Mon Aug 30 202110:05Tylor Megill Picks Up Second Win On Sunday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went five solid innings to pick up the win in the Mets 9-4 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Megill, who was coming off a brutal August 24 outing against the Giants, allowed just two earned runs on one hit and three walks while striking out five batters. Megill improved his record to 2-3 on the season. He now owns a 4.04 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 31:7 K:BB ratio in 29 1/3 innings pitched. Megill has been a huge surprise for the Mets and fantasy managers in 2021, despite a somewhat inflated ERA and WHIP largely due to his poor August 24 outing. Megill still maintains an xERA of 3.51, as well as a very solid 6.6% walk rate. Fantasy managers should continue to deploy Megill through the end of the 2021 campaign.

Wed Aug 25 202109:25Tylor Megill Roughed Up On Tuesday
On Tuesday, New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill suffered the worst start of his rookie season. In just 3 2/3 innings pitched against the San Francisco Giants, Megill allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits, including four home runs, in the Mets 8-0 loss. As a result of the start, Megill saw his ERA jump from 3.21 to 4.07 and WHIP jump from 1.16 to 1.27 on the season. Megill's outing comes on the heels of a quality start against the Giants last Wednesday in which he allowed just one earned run in six innings. Megill has been a huge surprise for the Mets and fantasy managers in 2021, though he has had an uneven August. Over five starts and 24 1/3 IP in August, Megill has posted a 7.03 ERA (largely due to Tuesday's outing), and just one quality start. On the season, Megill owns a 4.07 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and a 65:15 K:BB ratio over 59 2/3 IP. Fantasy managers should not be discouraged despite the poor outing on Tuesday. Megill's metrics coming into Tuesday's contest, including an elite walk rate, xERA, xwOBA, and xFIP did not suggest regression or, as one Mets beat writer shameless claimed on Twitter, Megill turning into a pumpkin. Simply put, it was a poor outing against the best team in MLB. Megill's xERA remains 3.49 and there should be better days ahead for the 26-year-old. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Megill and keep him active in all formats.

Thu Aug 19 202109:36Tylor Megill With A Quality Start On Wednesday
Despite a tough matchup against the N.L. West-leading San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went six strong innings allowing just one earned run on five hits and two walks. Megill also struck out six, posting a quality start on the road in the Mets 6-2 win in 12 innings. Megill has posted an impressive 3.21 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 60:15 K:BB ratio over 56 innings pitched in 11 starts this season. Megill has been a nice surprise and consistent performer for the Mets and fantasy managers in 2021. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Megill who will face these same Giants at home on Tuesday.

Sat Aug 14 202111:14Tylor Megill Strikes Out Six Dodgers
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went five innings against the Dodgers on Friday allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk in the Mets 6-5 loss. Megill, who did not factor into the decision, also struck out six. While it fell short of a quality start, Megill did perform well against a very tough Dodgers lineup. Overall, Megill owns a 3.42 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 54:13 K:BB ratio over 50 innings pitched. Despite a rough patch over his last three starts in which he has now allowed 11 earned runs over 14 2/3 IP (6.75 ERA), Megill has been a nice surprise for the Mets and fantasy managers in 2021. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Megill, though his next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the N.L. West-leading San Francisco Giants. As such, fantasy managers may wish to fade him next week given the matchup.

Sat Aug 7 202121:04Tylor Megill Hits Wall In Fifth Inning On Saturday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was solid through his first four innings of work on Saturday against the Phillies. Unfortunately, Megill ran out of gas in the fifth inning and yielded two homers and four earned runs before he was removed with two outs. On the day, Megill went 4 2/3 innings pitched, allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five batters in the Mets 5-3 loss. Megill fell to 1-2 on the season. It was Megill's second rough start in a row, after having posted a 1.04 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in July over 26 IP. Overall, Megill owns a solid 3.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 48:12 K:BB ratio over 45 IP. Despite his last two somewhat disappointing outings, he remains a must-start for fantasy managers. That said, expectations should be tempered where he has been unable to go deep in games, limiting his win and quality start total upside.

Mon Aug 2 202123:52Tylor Megill Endures First Career Loss
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill looked nearly invincible in July, but the Miami Marlins managed to touch him up for four runs in the first inning of his first start in August. All in all, Megill allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out four batters. The loss drops his record on the season to 1-1, but he still maintains a stellar 2.68 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 43 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings. He's been a revelation for Mets fans and fantasy managers alike, and should be in starting lineups going forward despite the tough inning.

Thu Jul 29 202108:53Tylor Megill With Another Strong Start
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went 5 1/3 innings pitched and allowed just one earned run while striking out six in the Mets 2-1 win over the Braves on Wednesday. Megill, who allowed just five hits and one walk, did not factor into the decision. Megill now owns an impressive 2.04 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts over 35 1/3 IP in seven starts. Megill has posted the third-lowest ERA in Mets history for a starter within their first seven career starts, behind only Nolan Ryan and Terry Leach. Even more impressively, Megill has allowed one or zero runs in each of his last five starts, a feat which had only been accomplished once before in Mets history by Doc Gooden in 1984. Megill should be a solid fantasy option going forward in both redraft and, certainly, dynasty formats. Though there is talk the Mets will attempt to acquire another starting pitcher prior to the trade deadline, the Mets would be hard-pressed to remove Megill from the rotation given his stellar performance.

Sun Jul 18 202101:01Shooting outside Nationals Park halts Padres-Washington game
WASHINGTON (AP) — The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after police said there was a shooting outside Nationals Park. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. Two people who were in one of the cars later walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds and were being questioned by investigators, Benedict said, and the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately clear. Sat Jul 17 202123:41Shooting outside Nationals Park halts Padres-Washington game
WASHINGTON (AP) — The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after police said there was a shooting outside Nationals Park. Two people were shot, according to a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department. Based on preliminary information, investigators believe that one of the victims was an employee at the stadium. Washington police later tweeted that “two additional victims associated with this incident walked into area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds.” The Padres had just taken the field for the bottom of the sixth when several loud pops were heard from the left field side of the ballpark. Fans sitting in left field quickly began leaving through the center field gate. A short time later, fans along the first base side began briskly leaving their seats. Some fans crowded into the Padres’ dugout on the third base side for safety. The Padres led 8-4 when the game was halted. It will be resumed Sunday afternoon, followed... [More]
Sun Jul 11 202102:09Acua needs season-ending surgery; Braves beat Marlins 5-4
MIAMI (AP) — Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. will have season-ending surgery to repair a completely torn ACL in his right knee after he was injured during Atlanta’s 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. An MRI showed the severity of the injury and the Braves made the announcement shortly before midnight that their three-time All-Star will be out until at least next year. Acuña landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old slammed into the outfield wall and crumbled on the warning track, immediately grabbing his right knee while Chisholm sprinted out an inside-the-park homer. The 23-year-old Acuña did not put any weight on his right leg and had to be helped to a cart before being taken from the field. Freddie Freeman had a two-run homer and an RBI single, while Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley ripped doubles as the first three Braves reached base off All-Star pitcher... [More]
