Romine will start at shortstop for the fourth straight game Wednesday against the Royals, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.
Although Eugenio Suarez has been the Tigers' most useful option at shortstop for much of the season, he's endured some offensive struggles recently, prompting the team to turn over the position to Romine. While not particularly adept with the bat either, Romine has gone 5-for-12 over his previous three starts, a performance good enough for him to earn further playing time. He'll likely serve as the Tigers' primary shortstop until his bat cools down.

Romine went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Rays.
Romine has picked up starts in two straight games in the face of Eugenio Suarez's struggles, collecting three hits. While the production isn't earth-shattering by any means, Suarez's modest .234/.311/.360 season line might not afford him time to break out of his slump. With Romine riding a moderately hotter at this time, he could continue to pick up more frequent starts.
Thu May 22 201416:55Andrew Romine goes hitless in loss
Andrew Romine went 0-for-3 and committed an error Thursday in the loss to the Rangers.
He also had a mental error when he failed to cover second base on what should have been a forceout. It was a pretty dreadful day for a guy who is only in the lineup for his defense. He's hitless in six starts over the last 11 days, and he's down to .173 in 81 at-bats for the season. It should mean more Danny Worth at shortstop for the Tigers.

Fri May 9 201422:49Andrew Romine goes hitless in loss to Twins
Andrew Romine went hitless again, going 0-for-3 in a losing effort against the Twins on Friday.
Another disappointing night at the dish brings his season slash to a disappointing .218/.317/.236. While the Tigers lack better options at the moment, one has to wonder how long they'll accept virtually no offensive production from the shortstop position.

Sun May 4 201418:37Romine gets three hits in win over Royals
Andrew Romine went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in a win over the Royals on Sunday.
Romine, serving as the Tigers' de facto starting shortstop, collected three singles against starter Jason Vargas and the Royals bullpen. He'll continue to start the majority of the games at short and bat near the bottom of the Tigers' lineup for the foreseeable future, making him an AL-only option for the time being.

Mon Apr 21 201415:28Romine makes fourth consecutive start at SS
Andrew Romine is in the Tigers' lineup for Monday night's game against the White Sox, playing shortstop for a fourth consecutive game.
Romine, a switch-hitter, will face a lefty starter in John Danks for the third game in a row. The Tigers are in desperate need of help at shortstop, as they have had a .538 OPS from the position on the season, the third-worst mark in the American League. Romine hasn't been much help, posting a .650 OPS in 25 plate appearances.

Andrew Romine is starting at shortstop for the Tigers on Thursday afternoon against the Royals.

Fri Mar 21 201414:21Tigers acquire Andrew Romine from Angels
Tigers acquired INF Andrew Romine from the Angels in exchange for LHP Jose Alvarez.
Romine will give the Tigers another option at shortstop as they look to replace Jose Iglesias (shins). The 28-year-old isn't much at the plate (he's hit .250/.303/.270 over 74 games in the majors), but he can run a bit. It's possible he'll wind up with some deep league value as a cheap speed option. Romine will be competing with Danny Worth, Hernan Perez and Eugenio Suarez for at-bats at shortstop.
