Although Eugenio Suarez has been the Tigers' most useful option at shortstop for much of the season, he's endured some offensive struggles recently, prompting the team to turn over the position to Romine. While not particularly adept with the bat either, Romine has gone 5-for-12 over his previous three starts, a performance good enough for him to earn further playing time. He'll likely serve as the Tigers' primary shortstop until his bat cools down.

Romine has picked up starts in two straight games in the face of Eugenio Suarez's struggles, collecting three hits. While the production isn't earth-shattering by any means, Suarez's modest .234/.311/.360 season line might not afford him time to break out of his slump. With Romine riding a moderately hotter at this time, he could continue to pick up more frequent starts.
