Wed Sep 8 201022:35Lowe returns with six innings of one-run ball
Derek Lowe (elbow) tossed six innings of one-run ball to beat the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Lowe was skipped last time through the rotation due to soreness in his elbow and it's always nice to come back fresh against the Pirates. Lowe struck out only two but walked none and scattered eight hits. His elbow is not expected to get progressively worse, so it's a matter of pain management going forward. Consider Lowe a fringe play against the Nats next week, but don't worry about his health.
Sun Sep 5 201010:47Lowe all set for Wednesday start
Derek Lowe (elbow) is good to go for Wednesday's start after a successful session of catch Sunday.
The right-hander "felt great," despite the fact that he's dealing with a bone chip in his elbow that caused him to miss his last start. Lowe is expected to have to pitch in some pain for the remainder of the season, but doctors have told him the injury won't get any worse.

Sun Sep 5 201008:39Lowe will test out elbow Sunday
Derek Lowe (elbow) will test out his sore elbow by throwing Sunday.
Lowe has a bone chip in the elbow that caused him to miss his last start, but he expects to take the ball on Wednesday for his next scheduled outing. The righty said that the injury can't get any worse and he'll just have to pitch with some pain. He's had the bone chip for a while, but it recently "became lodged in an indention or crevice in the elbow," which has made it more painful. Surgery after the season is an option.

Fri Sep 3 201020:13Lowe diagnosed with bone chip in elbow
Derek Lowe underwent an MRI on his right elbow Friday which revealed a bone chip, however he intends to make his next start.
"You have to [pitch]," said Lowe. "There's nothing you can do. It can't get worse." The veteran right-hander said he's had the bone chip for a long time, but that it didn't cause him any problems until about a month ago. He'll test the elbow Saturday, but expects to start as scheduled next Wednesday. It's possible he could revisit the possibility of surgery after the season.

Tue Aug 31 201016:17Lowe admits to discomfort in elbow
Derek Lowe said Tuesday that he has been feeling discomfort behind his elbow for about six weeks.
That explains it. The good news is that doctors have told him that the ligament is not the problem and that he intends to pitch through the pain. Lowe received a cortisone shot Sunday and will play catch later today and throw on the side tomorrow. He expects to make his next scheduled start Friday.

Mon Aug 30 201016:42Lowe not willing to say he's hurting
David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Derek Lowe had ice on his elbow Monday afternoon.
Normally we wouldn't make much of this, but Lowe shook his hand a few times during his start on Sunday and at least hinted at the possibility that he could be pitching through some pain. He wouldn't confirm that he was dealing with an injury Monday, but told reporters that he would have more to say after throwing on Tuesday. Lowe is 11-12 with a 4.33 ERA through 28 starts this season.

Sat Aug 14 201022:35Lowe suffers 10th loss despite solid outing
Derek Lowe suffered his 10th loss of the season on Saturday despite throwing six innings of one-run ball against the Dodgers.
Lowe wasn't exactly perfect, but he pitched well enough to deserve a victory. The righty struck out four batters and watched his ERA dip to 4.29 and his WHIP fall 1.41. He'll get the Nationals next.
Sun Aug 8 201018:22owe (hamstring) expects to make next start

Lowe left Sunday's game with a cramped right hamstring."`First time in the two years I've been here that I had to leave with cramps, which is disappointing," Lowe said. ". I'm not the first guy, nor the last guy, to play in this heat to get a cramp." Lowe was removed with one out in the sixth inning after allowing five hits and two runs.

Tue Aug 3 201022:20Lowe takes no-decision vs. Mets
Derek Lowe tossed six innings of one-run ball, but was handed a no-decision against the Mets on Tuesday.
The Mets tied the game off Kyle Farnsworth in the seventh inning, denying Lowe his 11th win. All told, he issued six hits while striking out three and walking none. On the bright side, Tuesday was the first time Lowe had completed six innings in a start since July 5 and the first time he had allowed less than two runs in a start since June 24. He'll carry some momentum into a start against the Giants this weekend, but mixed league owners can probably do better.
Thu Jul 29 201017:02Braves' Lowe drops to 10-9
Derek Lowe left after allowing four runs in five innings Thursday against the Nationals.
Lowe took the loss to fall to 1-4 in his last six starts. He hasn't given up more than four runs in an outing since June 7, but he basically just doing a Kenshin Kawakami impersonation at the moment. He's failed to get through the sixth in any of his last four starts.
Sun Jul 18 201017:46Lowe earns first win since June 18
Derek Lowe improved to 10-8 on the year by giving up three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a win over the Brewers on Sunday.
Lowe has won double-digit games in nine consecutive seasons. He gave up eight hits -- two of them solo homers by Rickie Weeks -- to go along with five strikeouts and a walk. The veteran right-hander now has a 4.39 ERA through 20 starts this season. He's slated to face the Marlins in his next start.
Mon Jul 5 201021:40Lowe solid but still picks up the loss
Derek Lowe allowed just two runs over seven innings Monday but fell to 9-7.
Lowe gave up just six hits, walked only one and struck out six, but he served up a two-run blast to Greg Dobbs in the sixth inning that proved to be the decisive runs. The righty has been hit or miss this season, but to his credit has improved each month and is off to a nice start in July with this outing. Lowe is a low-end starter in mixed leagues right now.
Thu Jun 24 201016:41Braves' Lowe goes seven scoreless
Derek Lowe pitched seven scoreless innings, only to settle for a no-decision against the White Sox on Thursday.
Lowe got plenty of run support early, but his luck has evened out as of late. This is the second time in three starts that he's pitched well and not factored into the decision. On June 12, he limited the Twins to two runs in 7 1/3 innings but left with the score tied.
Tue Jun 8 201001:24Braves' Lowe gives up seven runs in loss
Derek Lowe took a loss after surrendering seven runs in four innings against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
That snaps a streak of five straight quality starts for Lowe, who had dropped his ERA from 6.16 to 4.44. He's back at 5.04 now.
Wed Jun 2 201016:50Lowe earns eighth win by beating Phils
Derek Lowe pitched eight innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a victory over the Phillies.
The Braves pushed the go-ahead run across in the bottom of the eighth to put Lowe in line for his eighth win, and Billy Wagner protected the 2-1 lead in the ninth. Lowe struck out a season-high seven and walked one today. He's 4-1 with a 2.53 ERA in his last five starts.
Sat May 29 201000:41Lowe earns seventh win vs. Bucs
Derek Lowe tossed seven innings of one-run ball in a 7-3 win over the Pirates on Friday night.
With two seven-inning starts in his last three, the Braves are finally starting to get some length out of Lowe. He held the Pirates to just four hits while walking only one and striking out two, inducing 13 groundballs en route to his seventh victory of the year. He's getting better results, but he still owns a pretty lousy 35/29 K/BB ratio over 63 innings. There's not much upside in mixed leagues.
Sun May 23 201000:06Derek Lowe solid in 4-2 victory over Pirates
Derek Lowe limited the Pirates to two earned runs over five innings Saturday as the Braves picked up a 4-2 victory.
Lowe wasn't all that sharp, but he had the good fortune of facing a bad Pittsburgh team. He walked four batters and allowed five hits, but still lowered his ERA from 5.47 to 5.30 and his WHIP to 1.55. He'll try to keep the good times rolling next week when he faces the Bucs again.
Mon May 17 201022:05Lowe takes loss vs. Mets
Derek Lowe gave up three runs over seven innings in a loss to the Mets on Monday night.
It's the first time he completed seven innings in a start since last September 7 -- a span of 13 starts. Lowe held the Mets to just four hits while walking three, striking out three and throwing a wild pitch. He now owns an ugly 5.47 ERA over his first nine starts to go along with a wholly unimpressive 28/24 K/BB ratio over 51 innings. He'll get the Pirates this weekend.
Wed May 12 201016:36Braves' Lowe records win over Brewers
Derek Lowe won for the fifth time this season after allowing two runs in six innings Wednesday against the Brewers.
It's one of the flukes of the year thus far that Lowe has five wins and a 5.73 ERA for a team that hasn't hit this season. Yovani Gallardo matched him exactly today, allowing the same two runs in six innings, but the Braves went ahead versus Manny Parra in the top of the seventh, getting Lowe the decision in a game they won 9-2. The Braves have scored 48 runs in Lowe's five wins (9.6 per game). They've scored 101 runs in their other 29 games (3.5 per game).
