Sat Jul 30 201117:01D'Backs land Marquis for shortstop prospect
Diamondbacks acquired RHP Jason Marquis from the Nationals for INF Zachary Walters.
Marquis should slide nicely into the Arizona starting rotation and will try to help the Diamondbacks make up some ground in the Wild Card standings. He's registered a 3.95 ERA and 71/39 K/BB ratio through 120 2/3 inning this season. Walters, a 21-year-old shortstop, was drafted in the ninth round back in 2009 and has posted a strong .861 OPS in 97 games this year at the Single-A level.

Sat Jul 30 201116:29D'Backs looking to acquire Jason Marquis
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks are looking to acquire Jason Marquis.
The Tigers are also known to have serious interest. Marquis, 32, has registered a 3.95 ERA and 71/39 K/BB ratio in 120 2/3 innings this season for the Nationals.

Fri Jul 29 201118:34Report: Indians interested in Jason Marquis
ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Indians have joined the Tigers in pursuit of Jason Marquis.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reported Friday that the Nationals would prefer any acquiring team to pay the $2.2 million remaining on Marquis' contract. While that means the Indians wouldn't have to give up much in the way of talent, it's not clear if they'd be willing to pay that much for a mediocre two-month rental.

Fri Jul 29 201113:32Report: Nats want teams to eat Marquis deal
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Nationals want any team acquiring Jason Marquis to eat the remaining $2.2 million left on his contract.
Crasnick says that potential trade partners are "cool to the idea." The upside is that if they take on the rest of Marquis' contract, they presumably wouldn't have to give up much of a prospect (though you could argue they shouldn't have to surrender much for Marquis, regardless). The Tigers are reportedly one team that's interested in the righty, though Crasnick says they have him on the "back burner."

Fri Jul 29 201109:34Report: Tigers' interest in Marquis unclear
CBS Sports' Danny Knobler says there are "conflicting reports" on the Tigers' interest level regarding the Nationals' Jason Marquis.
The Tigers will get a starter before the deadline, but it's totally up in the air at this point as to who that starter might be. Marquis has had a nice year, posting a 3.95 ERA through 120 2/3 innings, but, as Knobler notes, the fact that the Tigers could have interest in him shows their "desperation." They've also been linked to Hiroki Kuroda and Jeremy Guthrie and have kicked the tires on Ubaldo Jimenez.

Thu Jul 28 201121:31Tigers interested in Jason Marquis
Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that the Tigers have interest in Nationals starter Jason Marquis.
Marquis isn't the most dominant starter, but there are very few high-impact arms available at this year's deadline and he should draw interest from several corners of the baseball world. The 32-year-old righty has posted a respectable 3.95 ERA through 120 2/3 innings this season.

Fri Jul 22 201115:59Report: Nats looking to move Marquis
According to ESPN's Jim Bowden, the Nationals are looking to move Jason Marquis ahead of next Sunday's non-waiver trade deadline.
The Nats have very little starting pitching depth, and will have even less once Jordan Zimmermann is shut down, but would certainly be doing the right thing by selling off Marquis, who is set to become a free agent this winter. Marquis has bounced back nicely from a disastrous 2010 this season, posting a 3.92 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 69/35 K/BB ratio in 114 2/3 innings of work.

Mon Jul 18 201122:53Marquis makes easy work of Astros
Jason Marquis held the Astros to just two runs on six hits and two walks in eight innings of work on Monday, matching a season-high with nine strikeouts as he moved to 8-4 in a 5-2 Nationals victory.
The eight-inning outing was just his third in 19 starts this season. Through his first 114 2/3 innings, Marquis is now the owner of a 3.92 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 69/36 K/BB ratio. He'll get the Dodgers in Los Angeles this weekend.

Thu Jun 23 201115:55Jason Marquis goes eight scoreless
Jason Marquis shut out the Mariners for eight innings on Thursday, but he wasn't involved in the decision.
Marquis allowed just three hits in the 108-pitch outing. He can't really complain about run support, given that he's 7-2 for the season, but he did deserve the win today. Unfortunately for him, the Nationals only scored in the bottom of the ninth.

Fri Jun 17 201123:54Marquis allows 12 hits in no-decision
Jason Marquis allowed four runs on 12 hits in five innings of work on Friday evening, but escaped with a no-decision in Washington's 8-4 win over the Orioles.
He struck out three and walked none. The 12 hits allowed were a season worst for Marquis, who had allowed 10 or more only one other time in 13 starts. He'll get the Mariners at home next Thursday.

Sun Jun 12 201117:23Marquis wants to stay with Nats longterm
Jason Marquis said Saturday that he would like to re-sign with the Nationals longterm.
Marquis is in the final year of a two-year, $15 million deal. "I know that with everything going on with the Draft, [general manager Mike] Rizzo is busy with that and it's a very important part of his job," Marquis said. "I would love to stay here. I think we have a good thing going here." The veteran is looking for a multi-year deal, and could get a similar contract to the one he signed two years ago if he continues to excel on the mound. He's currently 7-2 with a 3.69 over 81.0 innings.

Sat Jun 11 201118:08Marquis drops appeal
Jason Marquis has dropped the appeal on his five game suspension and will begin serving it Saturday.
Due to the Monday day off Marquis won't have to miss a start, which is probably why he dropped the appeal in the first place. Marquis was suspended for hitting Justin Upton in last Sunday's game.

Sat Jun 11 201102:15Jason Marquis earns seventh victory
Jason Marquis picked up his seventh victory by holding the Padres to one run and three hits over six innings Friday.
Tyler Clippard and Drew Storen protected a 2-1 lead from there. Marquis was pitching tonight while his five-game suspension is on appeal. He might choose to drop the appeal now.

Sun Jun 5 201121:07Marquis ejected in midst of shutout
Jason Marquis was ejected in the midst of a shutout Sunday and ended up with a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.
The game got chippy after a handful of plunkings. With the Nats nursing a 1-0 lead, Marquis was warned and then was immediately tossed when he hit Justin Upton in the lower back in the sixth inning. He immediately pointed to the scoreboard to prove his point that it wasn't intentional. Regardless, Marquis is throwing well right now. He's given up just two earned runs over his last 11 2/3 innings and is well worth using in San Diego next time out.

Tue May 31 201123:08Marquis improves to 6-2 with win over Phils
Jason Marquis scattered eight hits and gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday, improving to 6-2 in Washington's 10-2 win over the Phillies.
He struck out four while giving up no walks. Both runs came on solo home runs. We don't expect the good times to last for Marquis, but he's certainly been a valuable NL-only starter to this point.

Sun May 15 201117:36Marquis again quality in win over Marlins
Jason Marquis allowed four runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 innings of work on Sunday afternoon, improving to 5-1 in Washington's 8-4 victory over the Marlins.
He struck out two and walked one in posting his second straight quality start, and seventh in eight outings this season. He is now the owner of a 3.54 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 31/10 K/BB ratio through his first 53 1/3 innings of work.

Wed May 4 201122:08Coming off shutout, Marquis shelled
Coming off a five-hitter against the Giants, Jason Marquis came back down to earth on Wednesday, getting ripped for 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) in five innings of Washington's loss to the Phillies.
The non-quality start was Marquis' first of the season after he reeled off five straight to begin his 2011. Although he's not likely to throw another shutout any time soon, Marquis should still be able to get you a quality start most times out.

Fri Apr 29 201121:29Marquis blanks Giants in fourth career SO
Jason Marquis continued his impressive revival on Friday evening, allowing just five hits while striking out seven as he went the distance in Washington's 3-0 win over the Giants.
The shutout was the fourth of Marquis' career and first since June 30, 2009, when he was with the Rockies. Traditionally, Marquis has pitched very well to start off the season before fading after the All-Star break. After breaking that pattern with a disastrous April last year, it looks like he's settling back nicely into his old habits.

Sun Apr 24 201116:49Marquis moves to 2-0 in 6-3 win
Jason Marquis scattered eight hits and three runs in six innings on Sunday, improving to 2-0 in Washington's 6-3 win over the Pirates.
He struck out two and walked two. Marquis has now turned in a quality start in all four of his outings this season, and owns a solid 17/5 K/BB ratio. He should soon get roughed up, but is looking set to keep the Nats in the game most of the time. He'll get the Giants next weekend.
