Wed Jun 26 201301:27Jason Marquis gets hit hard by Phillies
Jason Marquis was lit up for six runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Phillies on Tuesday, snapping his eight-game winning streak.
It was Marquis' first loss since April 22, and it's just the second time this year he's given up more than four earned runs. It's safe to say it'll happen a bit more frequently the rest of the way.

Fri Jun 21 201302:03Marquis allows 2 runs on 7 hits in ND victory
Jason Marquis allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday.
Marquis exited with the game square at two apiece. The Padres roughed up Los Angeles' bullpen and emerged victorious, 6-3. Marquis is fourth in the National League with nine wins, and his ERA stands at a very respectable 3.59. He's allowed 15 home runs, however, including at least one in six straight games, and leads the NL in walks issued (48). Marquis can be used in NL-only formats next time out against the Phillies in San Diego, where the veteran is 6-1 over 10 starts.

Jason Marquis overcame career-long problems with Arizona in Saturday's victory, allowing three runs on three hits over 6 2/3 innings.
He walked four and struck out three, his second consecutive victory in which he issued more free passes than punch outs. Marquis entered the game 3-7 in his career against the Diamondbacks with a 4.53 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 99 1/3 innings. He's 9-2 with a 3.63 ERA, numbers he'll bring into a matchup against the Dodgers in San Diego on Thursday.

Tue Jun 11 201301:27Marquis improves to 8-2 by beating Braves
Jason Marquis limited the Braves to two runs on five hits over 7 2/3 innings in improving to 8-2 on Monday.
Marquis wasn't exactly sharp, walking five and striking out four, but he's constructed a career out of playing with fire and praying the mound doesn't set ablaze. The veteran's smoke-and-mirrors approach is well suited for PETCO, but Marquis surprisingly has a better road than home ERA thus far. He'll take a nice 3.59 ERA and rough 1.42 WHIP and 50/43 K/BB rate (77 2/3 innings) into next week's date against the Snakes in San Diego.

Sun May 26 201319:48Marquis struggles in no-decision
Jason Marquis was knocked around for four earned run on seven hits over just 3 1/3 innings in his start Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Marquis struggled with his command (four walks) and gave up back-to-back two run innings, including a two-run homer to Eric Chavez. It ends a steak of five straight quality starts, but he managed to escape with a no-decision. Marquis has been an underrated signing for the Padres. He now has 6-2 record, 3.70 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 59 innings.

Tue May 21 201301:20Marquis picks up sixth win against the Cards
Jason Marquis limited the Cardinals to two runs -- one earned -- on three hits over six innings to improve to 6-2 on Monday.
Marquis has won each of his last five trips to the bump and has been one of baseball's best starters over that stretch. We aren't here to pimp Marquis, however, as he's benefited from smoke and mirrors and his home park perhaps more than any pitcher in the game. Marquis' 28 walks lead the National League. And that five-game winning streak? He posted a hideous 17/18 K/BB rate over 31 2/3 innings during that stretch. This house of cards is about to topple and you'd be wise to identify the sucker in your league to pay for Marquis' 6-2 record and 3.27 ERA before it does.

Wed May 8 201318:19Jason Marquis goes eight scoreless in win
Jason Marquis pitched eight innings of five-hit ball and combined with Huston Street on a 1-0 shutout of the Marlins on Wednesday.
A fine outing, even if it was against a Triple-A lineup. Marquis has won three straight starts and lowered his ERA to 3.48. Things are about to get more difficult with road starts against the Orioles and Diamondbacks and home outing against the Cardinals next on the schedule.

Sun Apr 28 201320:32Jason Marquis picks up second win of season
Jason Marquis held the Giants to just two runs over six-plus innings Sunday for his second win of the season.

Tue Apr 23 201301:27Marquis lit up by Brewers
Jason Marquis lasted just 4 2/3 innings Monday, giving up seven runs on four hits and four walks in a loss to the Brewers.
Marquis looked lost from the get go in this one, as he gave up a single and two homers and hit two batters in the first inning. He settled in a bit over the next few innings but then gave up a two-spot in the fifth. Marquis had pitched pretty well in his first three starts but will now take a 4.63 ERA into the weekend start versus the Giants.

Wed Apr 17 201301:35Jason Marquis earns win over Dodgers
Jason Marquis limited the Dodgers to one run and three hits in 7 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season on Tuesday.
Marquis pitched well in back-to-back starts versus the Dodgers after losing to Colorado his first time out. But that's nothing new; he's 7-4 with a 2.53 ERA in 16 starts and one relief appearance against the Dodgers in his career. Next up for Marquis is a home start against the Brewers, which rates as a rather promising matchup for NL-only leaguers.

Fri Apr 12 201302:33Marquis goes five innings in no-decision
Jason Marquis yielded two runs in five innings Thursday as part of a no-decision against the Dodgers.
Marquis allowed 11 out of the 26 batters he faced to reach base, so it's pretty impressive that he somehow managed to walk away with just two runs scoring. The veteran right-hander might not be as fortunate for a rematch against the Dodgers next week. He shouldn't be owned outside of NL-only formats.

Tue Mar 5 201318:38Jason Marquis not so sharp Tuesday
Jason Marquis allowed two runs -- one earned -- over three innings in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.
Marquis gave up four hits and walked two while striking out two. The sinkerballer is an underwhelming talent, but he provided solid innings for the Padres last season and is expected to break camp as a member of the rotation.

Mon Dec 3 201209:55Padres re-sign Marquis to one-year, $3M deal
Padres re-signed RHP Jason Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract.
It's a decent score for Marquis, whose career appeared to be in jeopardy after he opened 2012 with an 8.47 ERA through seven starts with the Twins. But he rebounded out in San Diego, like many pitchers before him, and should remain a decent option for the Padres in 2013.

Mon Dec 3 201209:16Pads close to re-signing RHP Jason Marquis
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Padres are close to re-signing right-hander Jason Marquis.
Marquis had a decent 4.04 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 15 starts with San Diego before fracturing a bone in his left hand after getting struck by a comebacker in late August. He'll get a one-year contract from the Friars.

Sun Dec 2 201211:15Padres interested in re-signing Jason Marquis
Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said the team has interest in re-signing Jason Marquis.
"He's on the radar," said Byrnes. "The more we looked around, he's a guy we're talking about." Marquis' 2012 season ended prematurely in mid-August when he suffered a fractured left hand after being hit by a comebacker. He pitched pretty well in his time with the Padres, though, posting a 4.04 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 15 outings. He wouldn't be a bad guy to have around for depth, given that it should only take a minor league deal.

Mon Oct 29 201219:13Jason Marquis elects free agency
Jason Marquis has elected free agency.
Marquis got off to a woeful start with the Twins this season, posting an 8.47 ERA over seven starts. But, he rebounded with 4.04 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 15 outings with the Padres before his season ended in mid-August due to a broken bone in his hand. The 34-year-old might have to settle for a minor league deal this winter.

Thu Sep 27 201223:26Jason Marquis (wrist) throws bullpen session
Jason Marquis (wrist) threw a bullpen session Thursday.
Marquis hasn't pitched since August 21 due to a broken bone in his left (non-throwing) hand. It's highly unlikely he'll return before the end of the season, but he's trying to keep his arm in shape. "He loves baseball," said Padres manager Bud Black. "He loves to throw. When he broke his hand, he wanted to keep throwing. He wanted his body clock to know he was pitching in September. I admire that." Marquis has a 4.04 ERA in 15 starts since joining the Padres and is due to hit free agency this offseason.

Sun Sep 16 201210:31Jason Marquis hoping to return
Jason Marquis (wrist) threw more than 50 pitches in a simulated game Saturday.
Marquis' fractured left thumb still leaves him unable to catch balls thrown back to him, but he wants to keep his pitching arm in shape. The right-hander still wants to return late this season, though Padres manager Bud Black didn't sound optimistic about the possibility. "He wants to keep throwing," Black said. "He wants to keep his body throwing through the end of the season. He doesn't want to be shut down. He still has to get a (medical) clearance to pitch."
