Sat Aug 25 201208:57Padres not ruling Marquis out for season
The Padres haven't ruled out Jason Marquis (wrist) returning this season.
Manager Bud Black said he wouldn't be surprised if the Marquis made "at least" one more start, and believes he could return within his four to six weeks timetable. The Padres have not announced who will replace Marquis in the rotation Monday.

Wed Aug 22 201221:42Jason Marquis has cast on hand
Jason Marquis was spotted with a soft cast on his left hand Wednesday.
Marquis hurt the hand in his last start. X-rays came back negative, but a CAT scan showed "action," according to Padres manager Bud Black. It seems likely that the veteran right-hander will miss at least one start.

Sun Aug 5 201219:20Jason Marquis gets a win against the Mets
Jason Marquis tossed 6 1/3 innings of three-run ball to earn a win against the Mets Sunday.
Marquis struck out five, walked one and gave up four hits. He now hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last six starts at Petco Park. But despite the strong outing, we'd be hesitant to roll out Marquis in Pittsburgh next weekend. He got rocked for seven earned in Cincy last Tuesday.

Tue Jul 31 201222:36Jason Marquis knocked around by Reds
Jason Marquis was lit up by the Reds Tuesday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings.
Marquis settled in during the middle innings after allowing six runs in the first three frames, but he served up a longball to Brandon Phillips in the seventh that proved to be the winning run. Though he has a decent 4.08 ERA and 1.35 WHIP since joining the Padres, Marquis remains a sketchy fantasy play away from Petco Park. He'll get the Mets at home this weekend.

Wed Jul 25 201219:10Jason Marquis fans eight Giants in victory
Jason Marquis allowed three runs -- one earned -- in 7 1/3 innings and struck out eight Wednesday in a victory over the Giants.
Marquis may have beaten a good team, but it sure was an ugly lineup he got to face; with Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval absent, Angel Pagan was hitting cleanup and Brandon Crawford was batting fifth. Marquis has now won three straight starts, giving him a 4-5 record and a 3.48 ERA for the Padres.

Sun Jul 15 201220:29Marquis strong in victory over Dodgers
Jason Marquis turned in a strong outing in Sunday's victory over the Dodgers, allowing just two runs on six hits over his six innings of work.
Marquis walked three and punched out two in the game. After allowing an RBI single to Andre Ethier in the first inning, Marquis stepped up his game and shut the Dodgers down until a Jerry Hairston RBI single in the sixth. It was his first quality start in his last four outings, and remains a borderline fantasy option while pitching at home. He'll look to duplicate this strong effort when he takes on the Rockies at home on Friday.

Sun Jul 8 201219:38Jason Marquis goes five innings in loss
Jason Marquis allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings of Sunday's loss to the Reds.
Marquis struck out five, walked none and allowed two home runs in falling to 3-9 on the season, and 1-5 as a Padre. Today was the first time in four outings Marquis allowed fewer than four runs. Even in San Diego, he's off the radar in 12-14 team mixed leagues.

Fri Jul 6 201219:31Marquis to start Sunday on three days rest
Jason Marquis will take the hill for the Padres on Sunday on three days rest, filling the spot of the injured Andrew Cashner.
Marquis pitched 6 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks on Thursday, but deemed himself ready to go for the final assignment before the All-Star break. There is no telling what the Padres will do with their final rotation spot after the break, but Ross Ohlendorf appears to be a strong candidate to fill the void.

Thu Jul 5 201200:51Jason Marquis decent in no-decision
Jason Marquis allowed four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Diamondbacks.
Facing one of his many former teams, Marquis struck out seven, walked one and served up a three-run homer to Jason Kubel. Through six starts and 38 2/3 innings in a Padres uniform, Marquis has posted a 3.49 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 39/13 K/BB ratio.

Tue Jun 19 201202:37Jason Marquis strikes out 10 in loss
Jason Marquis struck out 10 on Monday, but he still took a loss after giving up two runs in seven innings against the Rangers.
The Twins have to be wondering where the heck this was a month ago. Marquis had 12 strikeouts in seven starts for Minnesota. He now has 20 in three starts for San Diego. It was Marquis' first 10-strikeout game since Aug. 3, 2001, when he fanned 13 Brewers.

Thu Jun 14 201201:32Jason Marquis solid in win
Jason Marquis was quality for the second straight start in a Padres uniform Wednesday, scattering just six hits across 6 1/3 shutout innings in San Diego's 1-0 win in Seattle.
He walked four and struck out four. Not exactly Matt Cain-esque, but Marquis is quickly establishing himself as a worthy NL-only league flier coming off his disastrous stint in Minnesota. He'll get the Astros in Houston next Tuesday.

Wed Jun 6 201215:34Marquis to start Thursday vs. Giants
Jason Marquis will join the Padres' rotation to start Thursday against the Giants.
Everybody else in the rotation will be pushed back a day. Marquis was dumped by the Twins last month after posting a miserable 8.47 ERA in seven starts. PETCO should help, but we're not optimistic about him in NL-only leagues.

Fri Jun 1 201210:23Jason Marquis goes seven strong at Double-A
Jason Marquis tossed seven innings of one-run ball in his first start for Double-A San Antonio Thursday.
He allowed five hits, two walks, struck out five and got 10 groundball outs. Marquis, who was signed by the Padres Tuesday, shouldn't be in the minors long.

Tue May 29 201212:01Dodgers not interested in Jason Marquis
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Dodgers "don't appear interested" in free agent right-hander Jason Marquis.
Marquis was officially released by the Twins on Monday after posting an 8.47 ERA over his first seven starts this year. The Dodgers hope Ted Lilly (shoulder) will only miss two or three starts and are content with Nathan Eovaldi taking his place in the starting rotation. The club has been linked to free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt, but Marquis obviously doesn't possess the same upside.

Tue May 22 201210:29Twins designate Jason Marquis for assignment
Twins designated RHP Jason Marquis for assignment.
As expected. The Twins signed Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract over the winter, but he's getting the boot after posting an awful 8.47 ERA through his first seven starts this season. However, we suspect he won't have any trouble finding a new home once he's available at the league minimum. Cole DeVries will be called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace him in the starting rotation.

Mon May 21 201218:04Twins to designate Marquis for assignment
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Twins will designate Jason Marquis for assignment.
Marquis was pounded to the tune of eight runs over 1 2/3 innings Sunday against the Brewers and now owns a brutal 8.47 ERA through 34 innings through seven starts this year. The Twins signed him to a one-year, $3 million deal over the winter, but it appears they are ready to throw in the towel. Despite his struggles, it shouldn't take long for him to find a new home once he can sign at the league minimum.

Sun May 20 201218:00Jason Marquis destroyed by Brewers
Jason Marquis got pounded into oblivion in Sunday's 16-4 loss to the Brewers, allowing eight runs in just 1 2/3 innings.
This is really starting to get ugly. Marquis had already allowed at least four runs in four of his first six starts, but hadn't yet failed to complete four innings of work. His latest disaster leaves him with an 8.47 ERA and 1.94 WHIP through 34 innings. Those numbers are in addition to a pathetic 12/14 K/BB ratio. Despite his $3 million salary, Marquis won't be long for the rotation if this keeps up much longer.

Thu May 10 201223:25Marquis hit hard by Blue Jays in loss
Jason Marquis was hit hard by the Blue Jays on Thursday, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits over just four innings of work.
Marquis struck out two and walked three in the game. With as bad as the entire Twins rotation has been, Marquis is in no immediate danger of losing his spot in the rotation, but his 6.26 ERA is still atrocious on any level. He'll attempt to turn his season around when he battles the Indians at home on Tuesday.

Sat Apr 28 201214:01Royals/Twins postponed Saturday due to rain
Saturday's Royals/Twins game was postponed due to rain.
The game will be made up on June 30 as part of a day-night doubleheader. Jason Marquis and Bruce Chen will be pushed back a day and pitch Sunday.

Mon Apr 23 201223:39Jason Marquis struggles again
Jason Marquis was knocked around in a loss to the Red Sox Monday, giving up five runs on 11 hits over 6 1/3 innings.
He received a no-decision, as Jon Lester wasn't any better, but Marquis was very hittable, which is no surprise. He's allowed nine runs over his first 11 1/3 innings as a Twin and has been taken deep three times. The veteran will face the Royals next.
