Wed Apr 18 201223:08Jason Marquis picks up win in first start
Jason Marquis got off to a rocky start in his first outing of 2012, but settled down to allow four runs on seven hits in five innings of Minnesota's 6-5 win over the Yankees.
Marquis allowed three first-inning runs before escaping from a bases-loaded jam. He went on to allow just four more baserunners. Marquis won't be any sort of a mixed-league star this season, but making half of his starts in pitcher-friendly Target Field, he should at least be serviceable. He'll get the Red Sox at home next Monday.

Twins recalled RHP Jason Marquis from Double-A New Britain.
Marquis will make his first start of the season Wednesday against the Yankees. The veteran right-hander missed a couple weeks during spring training while tending to his daughter, who was involved in a serious bicycle accident. The good news is that she is doing much better. Marquis pitched well in his two minor league tune-up outings, allowing three runs over 14 innings (1.93 ERA) while striking out 11 and walking none.

Wed Apr 11 201219:12Jason Marquis to rejoin rotation next week
Jason Marquis will make one final start for Double-A New Britain Thursday before rejoining the Twins rotation next week.

Fri Apr 6 201209:19Marquis could need only one minors start
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Jason Marquis might need just one or two starts in the minors before rejoining the big league rotation.
Marquis was away from Twins camp the last couple weeks of spring training while dealing with his seven-year old daughter, who suffered serious injuries in a bicycle accident. He was optioned to Double-A New Britain and will make a start for them Saturday. "He's obviously been doing some work when he's been home with this tough situation," Gardenhire said. "He actually threw the ball [Tuesday], and he had some life on it when we took him out after 55 pitches, so we like that. I think he'll go quick."

Twins optioned RHP Jason Marquis to Triple-A Rochester.
Marquis isn't quite ready for the season after spending the past couple of weeks with his seven-year old daughter, who suffered serious injuries in a bicycle accident. Tue Apr 3 201213:02Marquis will not start season with team
Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Tuesday that Jason Marquis will not start the season with the team.
Marquis has been away from the team for a couple of weeks in order to be with his seven-year-old daughter, who suffered serious injuries in a bicycle accident. Her condition has stabilized recently, so the veteran right-hander has returned to Twins' camp. He threw 54 pitches in a simulated game on Wednesday morning, but simply won't be stretched out in time to make his first start. However, it's not clear if Marquis will be allowed to start the season on the bereavement list. The Twins are expected to go with a four-man rotation for now.

Thu Mar 29 201213:51Twins could place Marquis on bereavement
The Twins could place right-hander Jason Marquis on the bereavement list.
Marquis is currently tending to his 7-year-old daughter, who was recently involved in a serious bicycle accident. MLB allows players to be on the bereavement list for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven, so it's not clear if he'll be able to make his first scheduled start of the season. Of course, the most important thing is that his daughter is making progress.

Mon Mar 26 201213:24Marquis remains with family after accident
Jason Marquis is still in New York, tending to his seven-year-old daughter, who was involved in a serious bicycle incident.
Marquis has been gone for nearly a week. The Twins will be patient with him during this difficult time and Marquis shouldn't have a problem getting back up to speed as Minnesota's fifth starter.

Thu Mar 22 201218:49Marquis gone due to family matter
Jason Marquis could miss his scheduled Grapefruit League start Saturday due to a family matter.
"Whether he's going to make his start on Saturday we're not positive," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Thursday. "We're kind of on hold on for that. We'd have to figure out somebody else to start." Marquis should have no trouble playing catch-up.

Mon Mar 5 201222:42Marquis gives up four runs in rough debut
Jason Marquis was pulled after surrendering four runs over 1 2/3 innings in his exhibition debut Monday against the Red Sox.
Marquis really labored through his 46 pitches by allowing three hits, walking three and throwing three wild pitches. The Twins' defense didn't make things any easier by committing two errors behind him. You couldn't script a debut much worse, but the veteran right-hander is virtually assured of a rotation spot after signing a one-year, $3 million deal with the Twins during the offseason.

Thu Dec 22 201114:54Twins sign RHP Marquis to one-year, $3M deal
Twins signed RHP Jason Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported Wednesday that the two sides were close to a deal. Marquis, 33, posted a 4.43 ERA and 76/43 K/BB ratio over 132 innings between the Nationals and Diamondbacks in 2011 before he suffered a fractured right fibula in mid-August. He's not going to blow anybody away (career 5.2 K/9), but should eat some innings at the backend of the Twins' rotation.

Wed Dec 21 201122:20Twins close to signing righty Jason Marquis
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Twins are close to signing free agent Jason Marquis.
Marquis, 33, posted a decent 4.43 ERA in 23 starts this past year for the Nationals and Diamondbacks, striking out 76 batters and issuing 43 walks in 132 innings. He's not much of a fantasy option, but the 33-year-old right-hander should bring quality depth to the back end of the Twins' starting rotation. The Mets had also expressed interest.

Tue Nov 15 201119:15Report: Mets interested in Jason Marquis
Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday reports that the Mets are interested in free agent right-hander Jason Marquis.
Davidoff writes that the Mets view him as a replacement for Chris Capuano, who is aiming for a multi-year contract this winter. Marquis, 33, posted a 4.43 ERA over 23 starts this season between the Nationals and Diamondbacks before he suffered a fractured right fibula in mid-August. It could be a good fit, as the Staten Island native will likely look for a one-year deal in hopes of reestablishing his value and hitting the free agent market again next offseason.

Fri Aug 19 201111:41D-Backs place Marquis (fibula) on DL
Diamondbacks placed RHP Jason Marquis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with a fractured right fibula.
The roster move was made earlier this week. Marquis suffered a fractured right fibula when he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of Angel Pagan during Sunday's game against the Mets. The impending free agent will likely miss the rest of the season.

Sun Aug 14 201117:52Marquis has fractured leg, season likely done
Jason Marquis has been diagnosed with a fractured right leg and is likely out for season.
In a bizarre twist, Marquis hit Josh Thole with a pitch in the fourth inning. Both players went down, but Thole went to first and Marquis left the game, relieved by Zach Duke. Marquis, acquired at the trade deadline, was 0-1 with a 12.38 ERA in two starts entering Sunday. Micah Owings is a candidate to get shifted back into the rotation. Top prospect Jarrod Parker, currently at Double-A, is another option, as is Triple-A left-hander Wade Miley.

Wed Aug 3 201118:58Jason Marquis lit up in Arizona debut
Jason Marquis was pounded for eight runs -- seven earned -- in four-plus innings by the Giants in his Diamondbacks debut.
Four in the third and then four more in the fifth. Marquis had a 5.48 ERA for the Nationals last month, and the Diamondbacks may well have gotten him at a bad time. They might have even been better off sticking with Micah Owings.

Sat Jul 30 201120:29Marquis won't start until Wednesday for Zona
Newly acquired Jason Marquis is scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday against the Giants.
Are we missing something? Arizona is in the thick of a playoffs run and Marquis hasn't pitched in six days (he was scheduled to start Saturday). Maybe Kurt Gibson doesn't want to mess with the rest-time of his current staff, but teams don't usually acquire a rested pitcher only to bench him for three games. It's curious decision making on Arizona's part.
