Cubs purchased the contract of INF Darwin Barney from Triple-A Iowa.

Barney, 24, has a .285/.334/.373 batting line over parts of four minor league seasons, mostly as a shortstop. He leads all of Triple-A baseball with 142 hits this season. With minimal power and modest speed, he actually profiles pretty similarly to Ryan Theriot.
