Thu Apr 4 201318:25Brian Roberts leaves with hamstring injury
Brian Roberts said after Thursday's game that he had to exit after feeling something in the bottom of his right hamstring.
Well, perhaps that's better than a knee injury as was originally speculated. Roberts will be re-evaluated Friday, but it seems likely that he'll wind up on the disabled list. A hamstring injury shouldn't keep him out too terribly long, but you never know with the injury-prone veteran infielder.

Thu Apr 4 201317:52O's Roberts exits with apparent knee injury
Brian Roberts exited Thursday's game in the ninth inning with an apparent injury to his right knee.
This guy just can't catch a break. Roberts suffered the injury on a slide when he stole second base and had to be helped off the field. The Orioles should provide an update soon, but Alexi Casilla and Ryan Flaherty would likely fill in if he needs to miss significant time.

Fri Mar 29 201310:52Brian Roberts will bat ninth
Brian Roberts will hit ninth for the Orioles at the beginning of the season.
It appears the Orioles will go with Nick Markakis in the leadoff spot and Manny Machado in the two-hole. Roberts has batted .309/.367/.436 this spring and has a chance to move up in the order if he stays healthy and keeps hitting.

Tue Mar 19 201313:38Roberts to play three in a row at second base
Brian Roberts is slated to start three straight games at second base for the first time this spring.
He'll play the first of the three games Tuesday afternoon, as the Orioles prepare him for the start of the regular season. Roberts, 35, is hitting .359 (14-for-39) with one home run, four doubles and a .972 OPS in 12 games this spring and could provide a huge boost to Baltimore's lineup if he can stay on the field. Of course, given his recent history, he can't be counted on.

Fri Mar 1 201317:09Brian Roberts goes 3-for-3, homers
Brian Roberts went 3-for-3 with a homer to lead the Orioles past a Pirates split-squad 6-5 on Friday.
Roberts is 6-for-11 and has two doubles to go along with the homer. One wonders if the Orioles shouldn't just go ahead and put him in mothballs until Opening Day. He'll be a big upgrade at second base if he can stay healthy.

Mon Feb 25 201317:50Brian Roberts doubles twice versus Uankees
Brian Roberts doubled twice and scored twice Monday against the Yankees.
The Orioles can't count on Roberts after two years ruined by a concussion and a hip injury, but they'll give him every chance to contribute while healthy. The events of the last couple of weeks have been very encouraging.

Fri Feb 15 201322:19Roberts will be O's starter if he's healthy
Orioles manager Buck Showalter confirmed on Friday that as long as he's healthy, Brian Roberts will be the Orioles starter at second base in 2013.
The veteran infielder has suffered through an extensive list of injuries and ailments over the past three seasons, but feels like he is currently in a terrific spot baseball-wise. Roberts has also stated that he's done more work this offseason than at any point in his career. He'll be a high-risk, high-reward type of player in fantasy leagues this year, and certainly worth the late-round gamble.

Sat Jan 19 201316:27Brian Roberts working out with no restriction
Brian Roberts informed the media on Saturday that he's currently working out without any restrictions, and doing more work in January than he's done at any point in his career.
It's certainly an encouraging sign, but it's still impossible for the Orioles or fantasy owners him after appearing in a total of 115 games over the last three seasons. If fully healthy, he could be a valuable source of steals and runs scored, but obviously comes with substantial risk.

Thu Jan 17 201317:53O's Roberts had sports hernia surgery in Dec.
Brian Roberts revealed Thursday that he had sports hernia surgery on December 20.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Roberts has dealt with some setbacks this winter following August hip surgery, but this is the first time that news of his sports hernia surgery has come to light. Still, Roberts insists that he has been through rehab and is fully recovered. Given that the 35-year-old has has played a grand total of 115 games over the past three seasons, he's not worth a gamble outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Thu Jan 17 201313:00Brian Roberts (hip) dealing with setbacks
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that Brian Roberts (hip) has been dealing with setbacks this offseason.
After undergoing season-ending surgery in August, the expectation is that Roberts will be medically cleared for spring training, but he remains a red flag injury risk going into 2013. Given his age and inability to stay healthy the past three seasons, he'll only be worth a flier in AL-only fantasy leagues, and should continue to be ignored in the majority of formats. The Orioles claimed Alexi Casilla off waivers in early November as a possible insurance policy at second base. Roberts, 35, has one year and $10 million remaining on his contract.

Tue Nov 20 201208:36Brian Roberts doing well after hip surgery
Brian Roberts (hip) is lifting weights, running and hitting off a tee.
Roberts appeared in just 17 games with the Orioles this season prior to undergoing hip surgery in August, but he's aiming to be ready for Opening Day. "I'm doing as well as I've done in the last three years," said Roberts. "I'm pretty much doing everything. Health-wise, I'm probably ahead of where I'd normally be in the offseason for the first time in a long time." Roberts, 35, has one year and $10 million remaining on his contract.

Fri Nov 2 201216:11Brian Roberts activated from DL
Orioles activated 2B Brian Roberts from the 60-day disabled list.
Roberts was limited to just 17 games in 2012 in another injury-marred season. He'll be the starting second baseman in 2013 if he can manage to come back healthy, but obviously that's far from a sure thing. The O's added Alex Casilla Friday as some insurance at second base.

Sat Aug 4 201217:43Brian Roberts undergoes successful surgery
Brian Roberts underwent successful surgery on Thursday to repair a right labral tear in his hip.
He'll have to go through 4-6 months of rehab before he can resume baseball activities. If all goes well, Roberts could be ready in time for the start of spring training next February. But the veteran second baseman also has chronic concussion issues and is prone to setbacks.

Sun Jul 29 201209:01Brian Roberts could be activated Monday
Brian Roberts (hip) could be activated from the disabled list Monday.
Roberts has played just one rehab game with Triple-A Norfolk, but evidently the Orioles don't think he needs many at-bats in order to knock the rust off. He's been sidelined since early July with a right labral hip tear.

Sat Jul 28 201213:59Roberts (hip) cleared for rehab assignment
Brian Roberts (hip) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Saturday for short-season Aberdeen.
Roberts is clearly making progress, but remains with a timetable. He'll likely need most of his 30-day rehab window before being activated from the disabled list.

Fri Jul 20 201217:41Brian Roberts to attempt to rehab hip injury
Brian Roberts will attempt to rehab his right hip injury rather than undergo surgery.
Roberts was diagnosed with a right labral hip tear earlier this month, but he's going to try the rehab route in an effort to keep his season alive. The 34-year-old is doing light toss and swings from both sides in Sarasota and will increase activities as long as he can tolerate the pain. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on anything from him.

Wed Jul 11 201218:17Brian Roberts undecided on surgery
Brian Roberts is still weighing whether to undergo surgery on his right hip or try to rehab the injury.
Roberts was diagnosed with a right labral hip tear last week and had a second opinion earlier this week. It's not known if the diagnosis was confirmed, but it seems likely. Surgery would sideline Roberts for two months and, in all likelihood, end his season. Robert Andino will continue to handle second base for the Orioles.
