Fri Jul 6 2012 | 20:48 | Showalter: Brian Roberts has tear in hip |
Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters in Anaheim on Friday that Brian Roberts recent MRI revealed a tear in his right hip. |
Roberts will seek a second opinion before deciding on a course of action. As it stands, it appears that he will be out for another extended period of time, opening the door for Robert Andino to return as the O's regular second baseman. |

Tue Jul 3 2012 | 20:50 | Brian Roberts (groin) lands on disabled list |
Orioles placed 2B Brian Roberts on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 2, with a groin strain. |
It was pretty easy to see this coming, as Roberts isn't exactly a fast healer. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but it probably won't be a minimum stay on the DL. Robert Andino will handle second base while Roberts is out. |

Mon Jul 2 2012 | 20:41 | Brian Roberts has groin injury |
Brian Roberts is not in the Orioles' lineup Monday due to groin soreness. |
Roberts first started feeling the groin ailment Sunday. It's not clear at this point how serious the ailment is, but it's hard not to be pessimistic given his history. Robert Andino is taking Roberts' spot at second base and in the leadoff spot. |

Sat Jun 16 2012 | 21:48 | Brian Roberts plates three to lead Orioles |
Brian Roberts went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the Orioles' 5-0 win over the Braves in Atlanta on Saturday. |
Roberts had an RBI single in the fifth inning, but was thrown out trying to stretch in into a double. He then added a two-run single to cap off Baltimore's scoring in the seventh. The veteran second baseman is hitting .318 (7-for-22) with four RBI since his activation from the disabled list and (more importantly) hasn't complained of any concussion-related symptoms. He deserves to be owned and started in all fantasy formats for as long as he remains active. |

Tue Jun 12 2012 | 22:45 | Brian Roberts goes 3-4, RBI in season debut |
Brian Roberts had a nice night in his season debut on Tuesday, going 3-4 with an RBI in the Orioles 8-6 victory over the Pirates. |
Roberts has been sidelined since May 16th of last season with concussion-related issues. Still, he's a .281 career hitter who has always brought a solid power/speed combination to the table when in the lineup. While he shouldn't be counted on to remain healthy, he makes for a very intriguing flyer while he is playing. These are the type of low-risk, high-reward pickups that can put a fantasy team over the top. |

Tue Jun 12 2012 | 18:38 | O's activate 2B Brian Roberts from 60-day DL |
Orioles activated 2B Brian Roberts from the 60-day disabled list. |
Roberts is batting leadoff and playing second base Tuesday in his first major league game since last May. There's no guarantee that he'll be able to avoid a recurrence of concussion-related symptoms. But if he does, the veteran infielder could carry a good amount of mixed-league fantasy value. |

Tue Jun 12 2012 | 15:44 | Brian Roberts slated to bat leadoff in return |
Brian Roberts (concussion) is slated to play second base and bat leadoff in his return from the disabled list Tuesday. |
The Orioles have held off on making an official roster move, likely due to some of the inclement weather in the Baltimore area. However, if everything goes as planned, the 34-year-old will appear in a major league game for the first time since May 16, 2011. If he can stay on the field and avoid any setbacks with concussion symptoms, he should have value in most mixed leagues. |

Fri Jun 1 2012 | 15:53 | Brian Roberts moved to 60-day DL |
Orioles transferred 2B Brian Roberts (concussion) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. |
He's already missed 60 days, so this was just a procedural move to clear space on the 40-man roster. Roberts is on a rehab assignment and could be back with the O's in mid-June. |

Thu May 24 2012 | 09:48 | Brian Roberts draws two walks in rehab debut |
Brian Roberts (head) drew two walks in two plate appearances Wednesday at Double-A Bowie. |
Roberts also scored a run and had a couple of defensive assists at second base in what was his minor league rehab debut. The 34-year-old hasn't appeared in a major league game in over a year and is likely to spend more than two weeks in the O's farm system. He's probably not worth a stash in most fantasy formats. |

Tue May 22 2012 | 18:07 | B-Rob (head) to begin rehab assignment Wed. |
Brian Roberts (head) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Double-A Bowie. |
He lives! Roberts hasn't appeared in a major league game since last May 16 and is no guarantee to make it through his minor league rehab assignment without suffering a setback. But he may take on some value in AL-only fantasy leagues if he does. The veteran second baseman currently projects to return in early-to-mid June. |

Mon May 21 2012 | 16:16 | O's Roberts (concussion) nearing rehab stint |
Brian Roberts (concussion) indicated Monday that he is close to beginning a minor league rehab assignment. |
Nothing is official yet, but there's a chance it could happen within a week if he continues to make progress. He'll likely start out playing with Double-A Bowie, which is close to his home. While this is encouraging news, there's no timetable for him to rejoin the Orioles. Robert Andino, who is hitting .264/.314/.372 through 161 plate appearances this year, will continue to fill in at second base. |

Tue May 15 2012 | 20:43 | Brian Roberts 'making good progress' |
Mel Antonen of Sirius-XM Radio reports that Brian Roberts (concussion) is "making good progress" and will travel with the Orioles to Kansas City for their series starting Wednesday. |
Antonen cautions, though, that there's still no timetable for Roberts' return. The 34-year-old has made multiple road trips already this season, so we're not sure how much progress he's really made, but at least we haven't heard about any setbacks recently. At this point, with the O's and Robert Andino playing well, Roberts is no safe bet to be a starter whenever he does make it back. |

Thu Apr 19 2012 | 12:33 | Brian Roberts travels with team |
Brian Roberts (concussion) will accompany the Orioles to Anaheim, meaning he's traveled with them to all three cities on their road trip. |
It's a very good sign regarding Roberts' progress, especially when you combine it with the fact that he's been essentially doing everything baseball-wise lately. The O's have understandably been hesitant to place any timetable on the veteran, but it seems like a rehab assignment could be coming soon. |

Tue Apr 10 2012 | 19:57 | Brian Roberts hitting every day |
Brian Roberts (concussion) is taking batting practice in the cage daily. |
It's encouraging, as Roberts is essentially doing everything baseball-wise, but the Orioles don't seem any closer to establishing a timetable for the veteran. We'll continue to update his progress. |

Mon Mar 26 2012 | 19:20 | Orioles place 2B Roberts on 15-day DL |
Orioles placed 2B Brian Roberts on the 15-day disabled list with post-concussion symptoms. |
Roberts is making steady progress from his concussion issues and will stay with the team when the season begins, but it's not clear when he'll be ready to play in a game. Robert Andino will fill in at second base for now and should hold some value in AL-only formats. |

Mon Mar 26 2012 | 15:22 | Roberts (concussion) to start on 15-day DL |
Brian Roberts (concussion) has been told by the Orioles that he will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, not the 60-day DL, to begin the season. |
Roberts will stay with the team while he is shelved. Avoiding the 60-day DL seems encouraging, though a two-month absence seems probable at this point. Robert Andino projects to serve as the O's starting second baseman. |

Wed Mar 21 2012 | 13:50 | O's Roberts (concussion) making progress |
Brian Roberts (concussion) said Tuesday that he's feeling increasingly better and hasn't had to take any days off from working out. |
Roberts is hitting regularly in the cage and has begun watching parts of the team's games in the dugout in order to get reacclimated. There's no timetable for him to get into a game, but he remains hopeful about playing this season. "If I was still sitting on the sidelines I'd be a lot less hopeful," said Roberts. "My doctor continues to tell me that there's very good reason for hope. So I don't see at this point, any reason why I won't. It's just a matter of when." The 34-year-old is doubtful for Opening Day at this point, so Robert Andino projects to serve as the O's starting second base. |

Wed Mar 7 2012 | 09:47 | Roberts (concussion) unsure when he'll play |
Brian Roberts (concussion) is not sure when he'll play in a game. |
Roberts has been doing infield work for about a week and taking batting practice from the coaches. While he noted that he's having more good days than bad, it's unclear when he'll progress to live game action. The 34-year-old second baseman was limited to 39 games last season due to concussion symptoms. |

Fri Mar 2 2012 | 11:58 | Roberts taking grounders, hitting in cage |
Brian Roberts (concussion) is now taking ground balls and also hitting in the batting cage. |
"It's definitely part of the progression," he said. "Every day that goes by and you don't feel worse, you're encouraged for sure." The next step for Roberts is to take live batting practice, though it's not clear when that will happen. "At some point coming up, hopefully," Roberts said. "I talk to my doctor every night and we kind of lay out a plan for the next day." It's so far, so good for Roberts, but he's obviously still got a long ways to go. |
