Tue May 15 2012 | 23:28 | Mazzaro victorious in 2012 debut |
Vin Mazzaro picked up the win in his first start of the 2012 season Tuesday, limiting the Rangers to three runs on seven hits over five innings of work. |
Mazzaro struck out two and walked one. With as bad as the Royals' rotation has been for the majority of the season, he'll likely stick around to make at least one more start. Which would come on Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Mazzaro has very little upside and can be ignored for fantasy purposes. |

Tue May 8 2012 | 15:19 | Royals recall RHP Mazzaro from Triple-A |
Royals recalled RHP Vin Mazzaro from Triple-A Omaha. |
Mazzaro had a 4.37 ERA and 27/10 K/BB ratio in 35 innings over his six starts this season at the Triple-A level. Look for him to pitch in middle relief. |

Sun Sep 25 2011 | 13:23 | Yost thinks Mazzaro better served in relief |
The Royals could move Vin Mazzaro to the bullpen. |
Mazzaro made a relief appearance Friday for the first time since his infamous 14-run appearance earlier this season. He fared much better this time, striking out a batter in a clean inning. "The thinking behind that is he's got a plus slider," Yost said. "Match him up against right-handers, where he can use that slider, it might be a very usable addition to that pen. I'd like to see it, anyway. We know what he can do as a starter." Mazzaro might still be given a shot next spring to start, but his future might be in the pen. |

Wed Sep 21 2011 | 00:37 | Royals call up RHP Mazzaro from minors |
Royals recalled RHP Vin Mazzaro from Triple-A Omaha. |
The Storm Chasers lost the Triple-A title game on Tuesday night, so the Royals have a wave of new call-ups. Mazzaro, 25, has a 9.25 ERA and 9/15 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings with the Royals this season. With three members of the rotation already shut down, he will likely be asked to make a start before the season comes to a close. |

Sun Jun 19 2011 | 18:05 | Royals option RHP Mazzaro to Triple-A |
Royals optioned RHP Vin Mazzaro to Triple-A Omaha. |
Bruce Chen is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday to fill the open roster spot. Mazzaro is 1-1 with a 9.25 ERA and 2.14 WHIP over 24 1/3 innings this year, though he had allowed just three runs over his last two starts (13 innings) after giving up 20 runs in his previous two outings. He should be back later this season. |

Sun Jun 12 2011 | 19:06 | Mazzaro bounces back with strong outing |
Vin Mazzaro finally put together a quality outing Sunday, tossing seven scoreless frames in a win over the Angels. |
Mazzaro pitched to contact all day, inducing ground balls but not striking out a single batter. He walked five and gave up five hits. The outing lowers Mazzaro's ERA from 17.47 to 10.80, but he's still not an option in any format. |

Tue Jun 7 2011 | 23:15 | Mazzaro gets rocked again, this time by Jays |
Recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A, Vin Mazzaro allowed six runs over five innings in a loss to the Blue Jays. |
Mazzaro replaced the injured Sean O'Sullivan in the starting rotation. He gave up eight hits, a home run and a walk while striking out three. Mazzaro made baseball history on May 16 against the Indians, becoming just the third pitcher since 1947 to allow 14 earned runs in a game. His poor performance Tuesday actually lowered his ERA from 22.74 to 17.47. We wouldn't touch him in fantasy leagues under any circumstances. |

Sat Jun 4 2011 | 12:44 | Mazzaro or Pucetas could replace O'Sullivan |
Vin Mazzaro and Kevin Pucetas are the most likely candidates to replace Sean O'Sullivan (biceps) in the rotation. |
We originally heard that it would be Nate Adcock, but Royals manager Ned Yost would prefer to keep Adcock in his long relief role in the bullpen. In his last big league appearance, Mazzaro became the first player in major league history to give up 14 runs in fewer than three innings, but he's responded with three straight quality starts at Triple-A since being sent down. Pucetas has allowed nine runs in his last two starts. |

Mon Apr 11 2011 | 20:09 | Mazzaro won't be called up from minors |
Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed that Vin Mazzaro will not be called up from the minors to start Friday against the Mariners. |
Mazzaro was expected to get the assignment, but plans changed after he gave up five runs and walked seven over 2 1/3 innings in a start with Triple-A Omaha on Sunday. Sean O'Sullivan will make the start, instead. |

Mon Apr 11 2011 | 13:05 | Royals' Mazzaro struggles in Triple-A start |
Vin Mazzaro gave up five runs and walked seven in 2 1/3 innings for Triple-A Omaha on Sunday. |
Mazzaro is supposed to be the Royals' fifth starter, and the plan was for him to join the rotation on Saturday. However, such an ugly outing could change that. Just 29 of his 63 pitches yesterday were strikes, and he also hit a batter. If the Royals bypass Mazzaro, then Sean O'Sullivan likely would move into the rotation. |

Sat Mar 26 2011 | 00:15 | Mazzaro gives up nine hits against Giants |
Vin Mazzaro was knocked around for three runs on nine hits over four innings on Friday against the Giants. |
The nine hits were the most allowed by a Royals' starter this spring. Mazzaro has a 6.06 ERA and a 10/7 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 Cactus League innings. The Royals won't need a fifth starter until April 16, so he will likely be optioned to the minors in the next few days and remain in extended spring training. He's not really worth your attention in AL-only leagues, anyway. |

Mon Mar 21 2011 | 13:28 | Mazzaro wins Royals' fifth starter gig |
Vin Mazzaro will hang back at extended spring training until the schedule requires a fifth starter. |
The Royals announced their season-opening starting rotation in camp on Monday, pegging Luke Hochevar as the Opening Day starter. Jeff Francis, Kyle Davies and lefty Bruce Chen will follow him. Mazzaro will meet up with the Royals for his first outing around April 16. |

Sun Mar 20 2011 | 17:41 | Mazzaro guts through five innings |
Vin Mazzaro bent without breaking against the Rangers on Sunday, giving up six hits, two runs and two walks in five innings. |
He struck out two. His best quality this season will be his guaranteed starts, which makes him worth an own in most, if not all, AL-only leagues. Just don't expect him to do much more than take up space on your team. |

Thu Mar 10 2011 | 17:20 | Halos knock around Mazzaro |
Vin Mazzaro gave up three runs on six hits and two walks over 3 1/3 innings Thursday. |
The right-hander struck out a pair and induced seven groundball outs to one flyball out, but there's no getting around the fact that he's been beat up over his last two outings, which has ballooned his spring ERA to 7.36. Fortunately, Mazzaro has a rotation spot in hand no matter how he fares this spring. |

Sat Mar 5 2011 | 17:21 | Mazzaro struggles vs. Rockies |
Vin Mazzaro labored through two innings Saturday against the Rockies, giving up four runs -- three earned -- on five hits. |
The right-hander struck out a pair but also walked one and needed 50 pitches to get through the two frames. It's a contrast to what he showed in his first outing of the spring when he tossed two shutout innings. Mazzaro is locked into one of the Royals rotation spots and offers arguably the most upside of the five. |

Wed Nov 10 2010 | 18:44 | Royals acquire Mazzaro, Marks from A's |
Royals acquired RHP Vin Mazzaro and LHP Justin Marks from the Athletics for OF David DeJesus. |
Mazzaro, 24, had a pedestrian 4.27 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 122-plus frames for Oakland this past season, but he projects as a solid No. 3 starter and will immediately improve the Royals' starting rotation moving forward. Kansas City is doing a nice job in forming a younger big-league roster. They already boast one of the top farm systems in all of baseball. |

Tue Sep 14 2010 | 16:46 | A's call up Mazzaro from Triple-A |
Athletics recalled RHP Vin Mazzaro from Triple-A Sacramento. |
Mazzaro was just sent down to to the minors last week, but is eligible to return now that Triple-A Sacramento's season is over. The 23-year-old right-hander is 6-8 with a 4.29 ERA in 18 starts and three relief appearances with the Athletics this season. He could be a part of a six-man rotation over the final two and a half weeks of the season. |
Tue Sep 14 2010 | 15:05 | Oakland could go with six-man rotation |
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the A's might go with a six-man rotation down the stretch. |
The sixth spot would go to Vin Mazzaro, who is expected to be called up within the next day or two. The 23-year-old righty was 6-8 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 115-plus innings before the A's demoted him to Triple-A in the first week of September. He's not a great fantasy option and his presence will mean less starts for Oakland's other young arms. But, oh well. |

Mon Sep 13 2010 | 13:54 | A's to promote four players from minors |
Along with Chris Carter, the Athletics are expected to call up right-hander Vin Mazzaro, infielder Eric Sogard and outfielder catcher Josh Donaldson. |
Triple-A Sacramento was eliminated from the PCL playoffs on Saturday, so this will be the A's second wave of September call-ups. It's not clear when the four players will officially be added to the active roster. Mazzaro, 23, was just sent down to Triple-A Sacramento last week. |

Tue Sep 7 2010 | 09:06 | Mazzaro could be back in bigs in a few weeks |
Vin Mazzaro could return to the A's rotation once Triple-A Sacramento's season has concluded. |
Mazzaro was optioned to the Triple-A level on Monday after allowing nine runs to the Yankees and five runs to the Angels in back-to-back starts. He's only 23 and has thrown 115-plus innings, so Oakland may decide to shut him down without giving him another look in the bigs. But if a spot opens up and he looks good down on the farm, there's a chance he will be recalled. |
