Wed May 29 201322:31Janssen gets 11th save as Jays beat Braves
Casey Janssen registered his 11th save of the season Wednesday in the Blue Jays' win over the Braves.
Four pitchers worked to shut out the Braves, with Janssen closing the door in the ninth. His 11 saves are simply a product of opportunity, as the reliever has yet to blow a save on the year. Those opportunities, and his save total as a result, will likely even out as the season progresses.

Tue May 28 201317:05Janssen (shoulder) was unavailable Tuesday
Casey Janssen was unavailable on Tuesday against the Braves because of general shoulder soreness.
Janssen told reporters that he was just "a little tender" and that he expects to fine later this week, but the right-hander has dealt with shoulder issues in the past so it's hard to be completely optimistic. Janssen, 31, has a cool 2.40 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 15/1 K/BB ratio in 15 innings this season and he's 10-for-10 in save chances.

Wed May 8 201300:12Janssen picks up ninth save as Jays top Rays
Casey Janssen earned his ninth save in nine tries this season, pitching a perfect ninth inning to preserve a 6-4 win over the Rays on Tuesday.
Janssen hasn't blown a save opportunity yet this season, having allowed just one run in 12 innings on the year. With Sergio Santos still sidelined due to a triceps strain, Janssen has little competition for the job and has given little reason to think he needs any. There was some concern over his right shoulder heading into the season, but those concerns have gone by the wayside with his hot start.

Thu Apr 25 201321:01Casey Janssen still not 100 percent
Casey Janssen admits that he's still not 100 percent recovered from shoulder surgery.
"There are days when it just doesn't feel good," said Janssen. "You can't always play catch like you want to, or get loose as fast as you want to, but nothing that's going to set me back or re-injure [the shoulder]." Despite not feeling 100 percent, Janssen has converted all six of his save chances and has a 1.13 ERA and 11/0 K/BB over eight innings. Fantasy owners shouldn't be concerned that he feels a little soreness.

Thu Apr 18 201321:48Casey Janssen nails down fifth save
Casey Janssen pitched a perfect ninth inning to nail down his fifth save of the season in Thursday's 3-1 win over the White Sox.
The right-hander needed just eight pitches to dispose of the White Sox' 2-3-4 hitters in a pain-free ninth. Janssen was slowed in spring training while coming back from shoulder surgery, but you wouldn't know it by the way he's pitched in the early going. He boasts a 1.50 ERA and 0.50 WHIP and has converted all five save chances.

Thu Apr 4 201322:46Casey Janssen earns first save
Pitching on a second straight day, Casey Janssen turned in a scoreless ninth Thursday to earn his first save against the Indians.
Janssen's availability tonight was still iffy as of game-time, as he hadn't worked on back-to-back days since undergoing shoulder surgery. He looked strong tonight, though, striking out two of the three batters he faced in a quick inning. He won't be available on Friday, so it's possible Darren Oliver or Steve Delabar will end up with a stray save.

Thu Apr 4 201320:30Casey Janssen might not pitch back-to-back
The Blue Jays are considering not using Casey Janssen on back-to-back days early on in the season.
Janssen seems to be fully over his offseason shoulder surgery, but the Jays could attempt to play it safe and use Sergio Santos in some save situations. "If I can, I'm going to do it," Janssen said of pitching on back-to-back days. "If they want to protect a little bit, it's understandable. It's a process. But I'm going to pitch every day that I can, and every day that they allow me to."

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Monday that Casey Janssen (shoulder) will be ready on Opening Day.
Janssen got off to a very late start this spring because he was recovering from shoulder surgery. But all is well now with the opening of the regular season just one week away. Janssen should be an excellent saves man this season on a really good Toronto club.

Wed Mar 20 201320:04Casey Janssen's spring debut set for Friday
Casey Janssen (shoulder) will make his Grapefruit League debut Friday.
Janssen threw an inning in a minor league game Wednesday and reported no lingering effects with his surgically-repaired shoulder. The right-hander looks to have a shot to be ready for Opening Day, but he'll obviously need to appear in a handful of games first before being cleared. If he's not quite ready, Sergio Santos will be used as the Blue Jays' closer.

Tue Mar 19 201314:09Janssen (shoulder) to pitch in minors game
Casey Janssen (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game on Wednesday.
If all goes well, the next step could be a Grapefruit League appearance. His status for the start of the season is still up in the air, but Blue Jays coach Pete Walker has said that he would like to see Janssen throw on back-to-back days before the start of the regular season. The 31-year-old is coming off surgery in November to relieve discomfort in his AC joint. Sergio Santos, also coming off shoulder surgery, would be favorite for early save chances if he needs more time.

Thu Mar 14 201323:20Casey Janssen not a lock for Opening Day
MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm writes that the "timing will be tight" for Casey Janssen (shoulder) being ready on Opening Day.
Janssen threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session Thursday, which was the first time this spring that he's faced hitters. "I felt all right," Janssen said. "It was good to get out there, good to compete. Still by no means a finished product, but it's another step in the right direction and it was nice to face some hitters and pick up the intensity again." Janssen remains hopeful of being ready for Opening Day, but he likely will need to pitch in at least one minor league game and several Grapefruit League games first. Sergio Santos (triceps) looks to have a better chance to be ready for the opener and would close if Janssen isn't quite ready.

Tue Mar 5 201311:10Janssen (shoulder) to throw another bullpen
Casey Janssen (shoulder) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Wednesday.
Janssen felt fine after throwing a bullpen session Sunday for the first time since offseason shoulder surgery. He threw mostly fastballs in his first bullpen, but it shouldn't be long before he incorporates his secondary pitches. Janssen originally hoped to make his spring debut in the second week of March, but it's not clear if he'll be ready by then. Sergio Santos would be the alternative at closer if he encounters any setbacks.

Mon Feb 25 201311:28Casey Janssen not ready for mound work
Casey Janssen (shoulder) won't be ready to throw off a mound for at least a few more days.
Janssen still feels discomfort in his surgically-repaired shoulder. He had been shooting to made his Grapefruit League debut by the second week of March, but it's possible that could be pushed back. "I'll have to get an update (Monday)," said pitching coach Pete Walker, "but we're really taking our time with him. Certainly not rushing him. There's still time to be ready. We're just being cautious and want to make sure that before he goes off a mound again that he's feeling really good. If it takes an extra week or two, that's fine." If Janssen isn't ready by Opening Day, Sergio Santos would serve as the Blue Jays' closer.

Casey Janssen (shoulder) expects to appear in Grapefruit League action by the second week of March.
Janssen underwent right shoulder surgery in November in order to relieve discomfort in his AC joint. As long as he doesn't have a setback, he should be fine for Opening Day. "I'm still working through some stuff to build strength but I'm pretty happy with where I'm at," Janssen said. "The doctors said 100% (recovery) is right around four months. Three months is (Feb. 16) so as long as I don't have a setback I'm in a good place."
