Minnesota Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco was fitted for a walking boot Thursday after undergoing ankle surgery earlier this month, according to MLB.com.
Minnesota Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco was fitted for a walking boot on Thursday after undergoing ankle surgery earlier this month, according to MLB.com. The Twins were initially hopeful Nolasco would be able to avoid surgery after a bone fragment was discovered in the ankle, but he needed to be shut down after experiencing a setback during a rehab session. There has been no update on his timetable for return after general manager Terry Ryan said Nolasco would need an extended recovery period following the procedure. "It’s disappointing that he’s going be out for a fairly lengthy stay," Ryan told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “But we know what’s going on there, take it out, get him back and get him going.” Nolasco had a 5-1 record with a 5.51 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 32.2 innings prior to suffering the injury, and it is possible his season could be over.
Tue Jul 7 201523:44Nolasco (ankle) transferred to 60-day DL Tuesday
Nolasco (ankle) was transferred to the 60-day DL Tuesday, the Star Tribune's LaVelle Neal reports.
This was simply to open up a spot on the 40-man roster and does not chance Nolasco's timetable, as he was already expected to miss a good portion of the second half. He underwent surgery on his injured right ankle Monday and will be out indefinitely.

Twins GM Terry Ryan said Monday that Nolasco will undergo surgery on his injured right ankle and will face an uncertain recovery timetable, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
The Twins are less than two seasons into their four-year, $49 million commitment to Nolasco, and it's already looking like a colossal misfire. After performing terribly in his 27 starts with the Twins last season (5.38 ERA, 1.51 WHIP in 159 innings), Nolasco continued to struggle in his first seven outings of 2015 before he was shut down due to the ankle issue. There's a real possibility that the surgery sidelines him for the bulk of the second half, which may sap Nolasco of any value he might hold even in deep AL-only leagues.
Fri Jul 3 201510:58The Twins hope Nolasco (ankle) can avoid surgery
The Twins hope Nolasco (ankle) can avoid surgery, but nothing has been settled about a course of treatment, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Nolasco has experienced pain each time he's tried to throw since landing on the disabled list, and a recent visit to Dr. Robert Anderson was reportedly met with increased concern about the bone fragment in the right-hander's ankle. Nolasco is unlikely to rejoin the Twins anytime soon, with season-ending surgery still a distinct possibility. He was unable to complete a bullpen session last Friday.

Nolasco had a setback Friday when he couldn't complete a bullpen session despite being fitted with orthotics that Twins doctors hoped would help solve the pain in his ankle, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "We just can't find the solution to get him heading back in the right direction. It didn't take long before they realized the symptoms were still the same," manager Paul Molitor said.
Nolasco has been on the DL since June 1 due to an impingement in his right ankle. The Twins don't know the next course of action and it sounds like he's out indefinitely.

Nolasco (ankle) is expected to attempt to throw off a mound on Wednesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Nolasco was also fitted for orthotics after a setback during a bullpen session, but with the plan in place for the pitcher to throw of a mound Wednesday, it appears surgery will remain out of the realm of possibilities. He's been held out longer than anticipated, but should he be able to throw without another setback, Nolasco could be set to return soon.

There's no timetable for his return, but it sounds like surgery isn't being considered in the short term.

Nolasco is scheduled to visit an ankle specialist in the near future for further evaluation, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
The Twins seem to have some concern about Nolasco after the right-hander was forced to cut a throwing session short Sunday after his right ankle continued to feel sore. Nolasco has been out since June 1 with the injury, and had already received a cortisone shot to address the issue before suffering the setback Sunday. The team doesn't believe surgery is a necessity at this point, but it's looking like Nolasco is going to be out longer than initially anticipated.

Nolasco cut short a throwing session Sunday due to soreness in his injured right ankle. "It didn't go well," Twins pitching coach Neil Allen told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I don't know where we go from here. He had to stop it. It was just all arm. He couldn't drive."
Nolasco was placed on the 15-day DL on June 1 with pain in his right ankle. He was diagnosed with an impingement from an old injury and received a cortisone shot. He started throwing last week and it was thought he could go on a rehab assigment next week. However, not it's not clear when he may return.

Nolasco (ankle) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as next week if bullpen sessions go well Thursday and Sunday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Nolasco had a cortisone shot in his injured ankle Saturday and said it responded well. It looks like he could return in late June if all goes well.

Nolasco received a cortisone shot in his ankle Saturday per Twins GM Terry Ryan, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
A cortisone shot isn't going to fix everything that is nagging Nolasco, but it should give him some short-relief when he gets back to the mound. He should now return fairly earlier, by late June at the very least. However, getting the shot now could lead to a later procedure.

Nolasco may opt to try getting a cortisone injection for his injured ankle in an effort to miss an extended period of time, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
He underwent a CT scan on the ankle Friday, which revealed that it is related to an old injury. The prognosis is fairly vague, but if Nolasco opts to get a cortisone injection he could theoretically get back on the mound sooner than if he opted for surgery. Continue to monitor his status as a recovery plan is in the works.
Thu Jun 4 201514:14Nolasco (ankle) will have CT scan Friday
Nolasco (ankle) will have a CT scan Friday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Nolasco, who was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to June 1, said he feels a "shooting pain" in his ankle when he loads up during his delivery. Tests earlier this week revealed no structural damage, but it's possible that he could still be out a while. More information should be available following Friday's tests, but for now Tommy Milone will take his spot in the rotation.
Thu Jun 4 201512:23Ricky Nolasco: (Ankle) Placed On 15-Day DL
Nolasco (ankle) was placed on the 15-day DL Thursday retroactive to June 1.
Tommy Milone was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take Nolasco's spot in the rotation. Given that there is no structural damage with Nolasco's ankle, his stay on the DL could be short, but there is no official timetable for his return.
Thu Jun 4 201510:23Ricky Nolasco: (Ankle) Placed On 15-Day DL
Minnesota Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, retroactive to June 1, due to an ankle injury, according to the team's official website.
Minnesota Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, retroactive to June 1, due to an ankle injury, according to the team's official website. There is reportedly no structural damage to Nolasco's ankle after he suffered an impingement issue in his last start, but the team was not comfortable allowing him to continue pitching at less than 100 percent. “No matter what they do as far as rehabbing and testing that foot, pushing off the rubber is going to be the biggest key,” manager Paul Molitor said Wednesday. “If he can do it with normal physicality and not have to make some kind of adjustment to make it so he doesn’t feel pain — I mean, that wouldn’t be good. It would be foolish to try to run him out there unless he’s 100 percent.” Nolasco has a chance to return when first eligible June 15, but will need to make significant progress between now and then.

Nolasco (ankle) will likely throw from the mound Thursday and could start Saturday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. However, he may still land on the DL. "We'll see. I'm just going day by day. All I can do is get treatment, and do some core [exercises] to stay mobile," Nolasco said.
With Nolasco's status uncertain, the Twins may utilize a "bullpen" start Friday and have J.R. Graham start the game with several relievers set to enter the game early.
Tue Jun 2 201516:44Ricky Nolasco: (Ankle) MRI Comes Back Clean
An MRI on Nolasco's injured right ankle did not reveal any structural damage, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Nolasco hopes to avoid a stint on the disabled list, but he still doesn't seem like a strong bet to make Friday's scheduled home start against the Brewers. If Nolasco can't pitch, J.R. Graham is an option to start that game, according to Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco underwent an MRI on his injured ankle Tuesday that showed no structural damage, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Minnesota Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco underwent an MRI on his injured ankle Tuesday that showed no structural damage, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Nolasco had to leave Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after the first two hitters reached base in the second inning, and Twins manager Paul Molitor would not say if Nolasco will be able to make his next start Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. “I don’t know if ‘worry’ is the right word,” Molitor said. “You don’t want a guy to get hurt, and the guy has been pitching well. He’s been winning games for us. … If there’s damage in there, we’re going to have to readjust. It’s just one of those things you have to deal with unfortunately.” Nolasco has a 5.51 ERA in seven starts this season, but had won each of his past five outings.

Nolasco (ankle) underwent an MRI on Sunday and the Twins are still waiting for the results, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Nolasco was pulled from Sunday's start against the Blue Jays just two batters into the second inning. His velocity was down during the outing, and Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki noticed that something was wrong. Nolasco is questionable to make his next start, which lines up for Friday against the Brewers at Target Field.

Nolasco left Sunday's game against Toronto due to a sore right ankle, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
Nolasco tweaked something in the ankle when throwing a pitch in the second inning, but it was unclear at the time what was giving him trouble. It now appears that an ankle injury is the culprit, though its severity remains unknown. Consider the right-hander questionable for his next start until more information is released.
