Mon Mar 10 201409:02Davis hasn't undergone MRI on calf
Ike Davis said Monday that he has yet to undergo an MRI on his right calf.
Davis is now wearing a walking boot in order to keep his right leg immobilized and speed up the healing process. While he hasn't undergone an MRI yet, he expects one will happen eventually. Davis still hopes to get two weeks of at-bats prior to the start of the season, but a trip to the disabled list is possible if he fails to make progress. In that scenario, the Mets would likely platoon Lucas Duda and Josh Satin at first base.

Mon Mar 10 201408:15Ike Davis (calf) now wearing walking boot
Ike Davis (calf) is now wearing a walking boot on his right leg.
Davis has been sidelined for the past week due to right calf tightness and apparently hasn't seen much improvement. We haven't seen much of a battle for the first base job so far this spring, as Lucas Duda is sidelined with hamstring tightness.

Sat Mar 8 201418:38Davis (calf) and Duda (hamstring) remain out
Ike Davis (calf) and Lucas Duda (left hamstring) won't be ready to return to Grapefruit League action on Sunday, according to Mets skipper Terry Collins.
Neither has appeared in a game since Monday. "I'd rather have them out in the first half of spring training rather than the last half," Mets GM Sandy Alderson said. "We've got lots of time left."

Thu Mar 6 201415:41Ike Davis (calf) participates in scrimmage
Ike Davis (calf) participated in Thursday's scrimmage but did not run after making contact.
Davis is still nursing some calf tightness. The good news for him is that Lucas Duda -- Davis' competition for starting first base duties -- has been hobbled all week by a hamstring injury. The duel will likely go down to the wire, unless of course a trade cuts it short.

Mon Mar 3 201408:38Davis scratched Monday due to calf tightness
Ike Davis was scratched from the Mets' Grapefruit League lineup on Monday due to calf tightness.
It's a road game at the Braves' spring complex at Disney and the Mets don't want to risk turning something minor into something major. Davis should be back in action by the middle of this week. He's competing with Lucas Duda for starting first base duties.

Mon Feb 24 201408:49Ike Davis lashes out at report about oblique
Ike Davis lashed out Monday at a report suggesting he hid an oblique injury from the Mets in 2013.
"You made it look like an excuse," Davis said, directly addressing the article's author. "It's an excuse. It shouldn't have been a story anyway. ... It's just an overblown thing. Everyone has injuries and then they get hurt. So it was pointless to write an article. I sucked last year because I sucked." Whatever the case, this ugly situation could further motivate the Mets to trade the underperforming first baseman. The Orioles and Pirates are known to have interest.

Mon Feb 24 201408:02Ike Davis hid oblique injury from Mets in '13
Ike Davis acknowledged this weekend that he hid an oblique injury from Mets officials last season.
"I thought about saying, `Hey, I would like to take a couple of weeks off, because I'm not feeling great,'" Davis said. "But then the timing was bad and it was when I was getting sent down. It would have been a great time, but it looks bad and I just can't say that." Adam Rubin of ESPN New York surmises that this admission might not sit well with the Mets' front office and could accelerate trade talks. The Orioles and Pirates are among the teams that have expressed interest in Davis this winter.

Sun Feb 23 201409:56Ike Davis makes changes to swing
Mets manager Terry Collins said that Ike Davis has "really quieted down" his swing.
"His swing is absolutely different than it was last year," Collins said. "He's really quieted down all the action he had at home plate. He knows he needed to do it. The batting practices are outstanding." Davis has always had a big hitch in the load of his swing and is apparently, at the very least, trying to lessen it. It's no surprise that the first baseman is open to altering his approach after a season where he hit just .205/.326/.334 with nine homers over 103 games.

Tue Feb 18 201415:36Report: Pirates continue to monitor Ike Davis
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Pirates "continue to monitor" Mets first baseman Ike Davis.
The Pirates have been linked to free agent first baseman Kendrys Morales, but they are also monitoring the trade market. Davis is a logical target, as the Mets actively shopped him during the offseason, but Stark writes that Justin Smoak of the Mariners and Mitch Moreland of the Rangers could also become available in the coming weeks.

Wed Feb 12 201420:00Ike Davis to get 80 to 100 at-bats in spring
Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday he hopes to get Ike Davis 80 to 100 at-bats during spring training.
"I think it's very, very important to try to get him in midseason form when the season starts," Collins said. "A lot of guys leave spring training and have 50, 60 at-bats. I might get him 80 to 100 this spring just to make sure he's ready to go when we start." Davis is a notoriously slow starter, culminating with his demotion to the minors after a slow start last season. There's no research that's shown that getting more at-bats in March will help a player get into midseason form sooner, but the strategy can't hurt. The 26-year-old will compete with Lucas Duda for the first base job this spring.

Tue Feb 4 201410:12Collins: 1B competition is 'wide open'
Mets manager Terry Collins told Kevin Kernan of the New York Post that the competition for first base is "wide open."
Ike Davis and Lucas Duda will battle it out for the job, but if they both stumble, Collins isn't opposed to moving Daniel Murphy to first base and playing Eric Young, Jr. at second base. The Mets will give Davis every opportunity to run away with the job, as Collins said he'll get 90 at-bats in the spring.

Thu Jan 16 201417:30Mets, Ike Davis avoid arb. with one-year deal
Mets and 1B Ike Davis avoided arbitration with a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
Davis, who was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, earned $3.125 million last season while hitting just .205/.326/.334 with nine home runs and 33 RBI over 103 games. The Mets have shopped him this offseason and there's still a chance something could get done prior to spring training, but he'll be in the mix at first base assuming he sticks around.

Thu Jan 9 201416:33Mets not actively shopping Ike Davis
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com this week that he's not "actively involved" in trade discussions involving Ike Davis.
It's no secret that the Mets have discussed trade scenarios involving both Davis and Lucas Duda this winter, but Alderson isn't going to give either of them away and is now prepared to go into spring training with both of them. "We're not going to move Ike just to move Ike -- or any other player for that matter," said Alderson. "This is a trade market, not a yard sale, and right now we're perfectly happy to go into Spring Training with Davis and Duda both on the team. Frankly, we're not that actively engaged in trade discussions involving Ike at this point. I think that underscores our willingness to go into camp with both." While Alderson hasn't found an offer to his liking yet, there's always the chance that things will change in the coming weeks. For now, first base remains a big question for the Mets.

Tue Jan 7 201409:38Brewers continue to talk trade with Mets
Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that he has had "ongoing discussions" with Mets general manager Sandy Alderson about a trade for a first baseman.
While Melvin didn't mention the player by name, the Brewers have been linked to Ike Davis as far back as before the Winter Meetings. However, Melvin said neither side has found a deal they are comfortable with. The Mets are asking for right-hander Tyler Thornburg in return while the Brewers would prefer to deal a position player.

Sun Jan 5 201416:51Mets no longer actively shopping Ike Davis
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets are no longer actively shopping first baseman Ike Davis.
Rubin notes that they could always reengage in trade talks before the season begins, they currently expect Davis to be with the club when spring training opens in Port St. Lucie in February. The 26-year-old slugger has maintained that his preference is to remain with the Mets.

Fri Dec 27 201312:01Orioles turned down Davis-for-Rodriguez offer
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets have "unsuccessfully tried" to trade Ike Davis to the Orioles for pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is a 20-year-old left-hander that posted a 3.41 ERA with 125 strikeouts over 145 innings between High- and Double-A last season. He was recently ranked by Baseball Prospectus as the club's No. 4 prospect. Puma notes that the Mets are "still talking" to the Orioles, Brewers and Pirates about Davis. The first baseman will almost surely be dealt somewhere before spring training.

Wed Dec 18 201308:58Brewers' GM won't panic into Davis deal
Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin will remain patient in his pursuit of Mets first baseman Ike Davis.
"Ike Davis is the one player people talk about," Melvin said. "Other than that, there's not much available. ... We all have our own searches going on to try to have a complete team. Ours is at first base. We keep plugging away at it, but we might have to mix and match with some of our own players. ... It's interesting how many first basemen started at other positions. We've talked about a lot of guys in the American League, but because of the DH a lot of them haven't played that much at first base. We'll keep looking, but I'm not anticipating anything right now." The 27-year-old Davis' market is suppressed because he struggled for a second consecutive year in 2013, slashing .205/.326/.334 while also spending some time with Triple-A Las Vegas.
