Jeter served as the designated hitter but was able to test his surgically-repaired ankle on the basepaths, going first to third at one point on a teammate's single. The veteran shortstop might be activated from the 60-day disabled list just before the All-Star break if he continues to display good health in these rehab games. |

It wasn't a particularly strenuous test of his surgically-repaired ankle, but he made it through five innings without any issue. If all goes well in the next few games, Jeter could conceivably return to the Yankees' lineup before the All-Star break. |

Fri Jul 5 2013 | 14:25 | Derek Jeter to begin rehab assignment Sat. |
Derek Jeter (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. |
Jeter is slated to play five innings at shortstop in his first game. Since he's been out all season, the future Hall of Famer will surely need most, if not all, of the allotted 20 days for his rehab assignment. Both he and A-Rod should be back on the Yankees' left side of the infield before the end of the month. |

It's great news, though Jeter obviously still has a long ways to go. The Yankees are hoping he could be ready to rejoin the lineup in about six weeks, though that's a rough timetable. Jeter, of course, tried to make it back by Opening Day but pushed things too quickly and suffered a small crack in his surgically-repaired ankle. He'll be more cautious this time around. |

"We'll just have to see how he moves." That puts Jeter on track to be activated in late July if all goes well. |

Thu Apr 25 2013 | 17:27 | Jeter (ankle) won't talk timeline for return |
Derek Jeter (ankle) said during a press conference Thursday that he doesn't want to discuss a timeline for his return. |
After a CT scan last week revealed a small crack in Jeter's surgically-repaired ankle, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the new injury would keep him out until after the All-Star break. Jeter acknowledged Thursday that he has a return date in his head, but he isn't willing to reveal it. "I have no doubt I'll be back," said Jeter. "...I'm not giving a timeline. Last timeline I set I didn't make. I don't want to disappoint myself." The 38-year-old doesn't need another surgery, so he's just going to have to wait until his ankle is fully healed. There's little doubt that we'll see him again, but fantasy owners shouldn't count on much from the captain this season. |
