RHP Matt Albers signed a one-year deal worth $2.25 million to remain with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. The deal includes a $3 million team option for 2017 with a $250,000 buyout.

Albers was credited with his third hold of the season in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Indians, getting one out on a strikeout in the eighth inning.
The veteran reliever extended his streak of not surrendering an earned run to 21.2 innings. Albers has provided stalwart relief for the White Sox over 35 innings of work this season, despite missing two full months with a broken finger earlier in the campaign.

Albers (finger) threw 2.2 scoreless innings in his return from the disabled list Sunday.
It took Albers more than two months to recover from a broken finger, and he was quickly forced into action in Sunday's loss. He could be one of the first guys picked in the White Sox's bullpen when a long reliever is needed, but he should not see too many save chances.
Sun Jul 19 201511:24The White Sox activated Albers (finger) from 15-day DL on Sunday
The White Sox activated Albers (finger) from the 15-day DL on Sunday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Albers broke his pinky finger during a late-April scuffle with the Royals, and it has taken him nearly three months to recover. He made eight minor league rehab appearances prior to Saturday's activation, and those appearances were generally of more than an inning each. He should initially pitch from a mop-up/middle innings role, but he could pitch in more significant situations if the team deals some of their oft-used arms prior to the trade deadline.

Albers (finger) will begin his rehab assignment Friday at Triple-A Charlotte,Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
Albers has been on the disabled list since late April due to a broken finger suffered during Chicago's altercation with Kansas City. After recovering from surgery on the broken finger, Albers will make his first rehab appearance at Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Once he's ready to rejoin Chicago's bullpen, the veteran right hander will likely work in lower leverage situations.

Albers (finger) is expected begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Albers threw a 30-pitch simulated game Tuesday and emerged without issue, so he'll embark on a rehab assignment later this week. It's unclear how many rehab appearances Albers will make, but he'll likely be back with the White Sox around the end of the month.
Mon Jun 22 201519:45Albers (finger) will throw simulated game Tuesday
Albers (finger) will throw a simulated game Tuesday, Dan Hayes of CSN reports.
If all goes well Tuesday, Albers is expected to head out on a rehab assignment in short order. Hope remains that he could be back with the team before the end of the month.

Albers (finger) had the pins removed from his pinky finger and will begin throwing in the near future, JJ Stankevitz of CSN Chicago reports.
Albers broke his pinky in late-April during a brawl with the Royals, and he underwent surgery in early-May, putting him on the shelf for 6-to-8 weeks. Given that timetable, he could return within the next few weeks, though the team will have a more accurate estimate after Albers is able to get a few throwing sessions under his belt.

Albers had surgery on his broken finger and is now likely out for 6-8 weeks, Daryl Van Schouwen of The Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Albers broke his finger in late April in a brawl with the Royals, and after originally being placed on the 15-day DL, surgery will leave him out even longer. Albers has not pitched much this year and is replaceable due to his minor impact out of the bullpen.

Albers broke a finger in Thursday's brawl with the Royals and will hit the DL, Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com reports.
Albers was rocking a small-sample 1.59 ERA before he found a stupid way to interrupt his season. He hasn't pitched after the seventh inning in 2015, so he's a minor player in the grand scheme of things and could be replaced.
Tue Mar 31 201519:09Albers made Chicago's Opening Day roster
Albers made Chicago's Opening Day roster, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.
He will serve as a low-leverage option out of the bullpen, carrying minimal fantasy value.

Albers (shoulder) has thrown four scoreless innings for the White Sox this spring.
He earned the save Saturday against the Angels, but saves are even more irrelevant in spring training than they are during the regular season. Albers missed virtually the entire 2014 season after tearing a muscle in his shoulder, but CSN Chicago reports that is not an issue thus far this spring. If he truly is healthy, then he could own a middle-inning role in 2015.
Fri Feb 13 201511:04Albers has signed minor league deal with White Sox
Albers has signed a minor league deal with the White Sox, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
If Albers is healthy, he has a very good shot at making the White Sox bullpen. A shoulder issue forced the 31-year-old to miss the majority of the 2014 season with the Astros, but he also has a strong 2.63 ERA since 2012.
Thu Oct 9 201415:56The Astros declined Albers' option for 2015
The Astros declined Albers' option for 2015, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Albers gave up just one run over 10 innings to begin the year, but a shoulder issue forced him onto the shelf in late April and he was unable to make it back before the end of the campaign. His price tag for 2015 was $3 million, and it seems the Astros were not optimistic he would return and maintain full health throughout the course of next season.
Tue Aug 5 201410:38Albers (shoulder) threw 15-pitch bullpen session on Saturday
Albers (shoulder) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session on Saturday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Albers threw all fastballs at about 75 percent strength by his own estimate. The next step in the veteran reliever's recovery is to throw off the mound at increasing intensities. While Albers has been hesitant to offer a timetable for his return to the Astros' bullpen, he's hopeful he can pitch during the last month of the season.
Tue Jul 29 201420:37Matt Albers to resume throwing Friday
Matt Albers (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Friday.
It's the first time he'll throw from the bump since he had a setback with his shoulder tendinitis. There's no timetable for Albers' return, but obviously Friday's session will be a nice step in the right direction if it goes well. "I've been feeling pretty good," Albers said. "I think I felt pretty good a couple of times and then when I got off the mound, I had a setback. Hopefully, this time we're making sure I stretch it out and get some extra throwing in before I get back off the mound, but it's feeling pretty good right now."

Fri Jul 25 201416:16Matt Albers moved to 60-day DL
Astros transferred RHP Matt Albers from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears space on the 40-man roster for Gregory Petit. Albers has been out since late April with right shoulder tendinitis and isn't close to returning.

Thu Jul 24 201417:17Albers (shoulder) not close to return
Matt Albers (shoulder) isn't close to returning to action.
Albers has made slow progress since he landed on the disabled list in late April with right shoulder tendinitis. Similar to the Jesse Crain situation, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said Thursday that the hope is he'll be ready to throw off a mound in the next 10 days, but he's still a ways off from pitching with the big club again.

Sun Jun 22 201411:28Matt Albers hopes to throw off mound soon
Matt Albers (shoulder) is hoping to resume throwing off a mound during the Astros' June 24-July 2 homestand.
The reliever has been out since late April with right shoulder tendinitis but said Sunday that he's "feeling a lot better." The Astros are hoping he'll make it back before the end of the first half.
