Stauffer (5-2) picked up the relief win in extra innings on Friday against the Dodgers, as he pitched the 12th inning while allowing one hit with one strikeout. |
The 32-year old Stauffer has found his niche as a reliever finally, but he is still giving up far too many walks and remains extremely hittable to batters which does not bode well for fantasy owners. |

Stauffer faltered Sunday at St. Louis, surrendering two runs on three hits and one walk to go with two strikeouts in two frames. |
In the fifth inning, Stauffer relieved starter Odrisamer Despaigne, setting down the side following a leadoff single. However, Stauffer wasn't as crisp in the sixth, when the Cardinals placed runners at second and third. With two outs, he gave up a two-run double to Matt Carpenter, bumping up the right-hander's ERA to 3.86 on the season. Expect Stauffer to continue pitching in low-leverage situations, especially if his walk rate, currently sitting at 4.04 BB/9, doesn't turn around. |
Tue Jun 3 2014 | 02:17 | SP Stauffer doesn't even complete 3 innings |
Tim Stauffer was chased after just 2 2/3 innings Monday, yielding two runs on four hits and two walks in a loss to the Pirates. |
Stauffer was 2-0 with a 1.90 ERA early last week, but his fortunes, predictably, have changed abruptly. The right-hander was coming off one of the worst starts of his career, coughing up seven runs while recording just one out against the Snakes on Wednesday. Things went better this time around, but that's only by degrees -- he lasted just 71 pitches in Petco. Stauffer has allowed nine runs and secured only nine outs over his last two outings, but San Diego isn't sure it has anyone better to replace him. Stauffer hosts Washington this weekend. |

Sat May 24 2014 | 01:49 | Tim Stauffer goes five scoreless in win |
Making his first start since 2012, Tim Stauffer blanked the Cubs for five innings to win on Friday night. |
Stauffer was better than he needed to be, as the Padres gave him eight runs of support. He probably shouldn't get used to that, though. In truth, he was just thrilled to be back in the rotation in the first place. If he continues to pitch well while Robbie Erlin is out, he should get a chance to stick. He's not a great mixed-league pickup yet, but he should continue to have value in NL-only leagues. |
