The Nationals are nearing a one-year contract with Mark DeRosa, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
DeRosa drew interest from several clubs this winter despite posting a rough .279/.351/.302 batting line over 97 plate appearances in 2011. The Nats will hope for better, and that he can stay healthy for more than a quarter of a season. DeRosa will likely function as a utility infielder in Washington.

Mark DeRosa (wrist) is expected to start a rehab assignment just after the All-Star break.
DeRosa was diagnosed back in mid-May with a torn ECU tendon in his left wrist, but he'll do his best to try to play through the injury. There's no timetable for his return, and the odds that the wrist will hold up for the duration of the second half aren't good.

Mark DeRosa will return to San Francisco on Thursday to have his left wrist examined.
DeRosa left Wednesday's game with a left wrist strain. Though he was initially announced as day-to-day by the team, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said, "It looks like he's going to be out for a while." His absence means that Miguel Tejada and Mike Fontenot will play regularly on the left side of the infield moving forward.

Thu May 19 201101:57Mark DeRosa aggravates wrist
Mark DeRosa is being considered day-to-day after leaving Wednesday's game with a left wrist strain.
No one should be expecting much of anything from DeRosa at this point, as he just can't seem to overcome his wrist problems. The good news for the Giants is that Miguel Tejada seems to be warming up a bit at the plate. He had two hits and two RBI tonight. Tejada and Mike Fontenot would play regularly if DeRosa returns to the DL.

Tue May 17 201110:33DeRosa is 0-for-14 since returning from DL
Mark DeRosa is 0-for-14 since returning from a nearly three-week stay on the disabled list.
"I've always been a slow starter," DeRosa told reporters after going 0-for-4 on Monday night. "I'd obviously like to do more. It is what it is right now. Just gotta keep grinding." The Giants were hoping DeRosa might be able to ease some of the pain left by Pablo Sandoval's wrist fracture. So far, it has been the exact opposite.

Wed May 4 201116:06DeRosa (wrist) to come off DL next Tuesday
Mark DeRosa (wrist) is scheduled to come off the disabled list as soon as he's eligible next Tuesday.
DeRosa hit off a tee Tuesday and didn't feel any soreness, so it appears he is on track for activation. It's not clear if he'll go out on a minor league rehab assignment or head to extended spring training. If healthy, DeRosa could be another alternative to fill in for Pablo Sandoval at third base.

Wed Apr 27 201117:00DeRosa lands on DL with wrist inflammation
Giants placed 3B Mark DeRosa on the 15-day disabled list with wrist cartilage inflammation.
DeRosa's surgically-repaired wrist is structurally intact, but some surrounding soreness is causing him discomfort. The new developments will almost certainly kill whatever trade talks the Giants had going this week with the Marlins. DeRosa, 36, could be out a while.

Wed Apr 27 201113:30Marlins considering trade for Mark DeRosa
According to Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Marlins are considering a trade for Mark DeRosa of the Giants.
Third base has been a revolving door for the Marlins early on in the season after top prospect Matt Dominguez failed to make the team out of spring training. DeRosa, 36, doesn't have a clear role on the Giants and is in the final year of a two-year, $12 million contract. The Marlins would likely have to send a better prospect for the Giants to eat some of his remaining salary, but DeRosa would be an upgrade over what they currently have.

Sat Feb 26 201118:12Giants' DeRosa goes 3-for-3
Mark DeRosa went 3-for-3 while starting at second base for the second straight day Saturday.
Just last week, manager Bruce Bochy said DeRosa would focus on playing left field this spring. However, he's started at second in both of the team's games to date. Left field is the position at which he could win a starting job, but he'd be most valuable to the Giants filling in at several positions.
