RHP Felix Hernandez, who has never pitched in the postseason in his 13-year career, admits his frustration at being on the disabled list as the Mariners battle for an American League wild-card berth. Hernandez was placed on the 10-day DL on Aug. 5 with bursitis in his right shoulder, the second time he's been sidelined with inflammation in that shoulder this season. "I'm still angry," Hernandez said. "I'm trying to calm myself down, trying to smile to hide what I feel inside. I'm just hoping to get healthy and try to help. Try to help this team go to the promised land." Hernandez received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder and is awaiting clearance to begin playing catch. "They say it's the same thing, but I don't know. They say 3-4 weeks, but I think I can be back earlier. I just have to be careful not to rush it, because I feel fine." Hernandez, who is 5-4 with a 4.28 ERA in 13 starts this season, said the inflammation earlier this season was at the back of his shoulder. This time, it's in the front. "They say it's more inflamed than last time, but I feel better than last time. So I don't understand," Hernandez said. "I'm not a doctor, I just know what I feel."

This is his third stint on the DL in the past two seasons and fifth stint overall in 13 seasons. "Obviously disappointed to lose Felix, probably three to four weeks, but hopefully we can get that shoulder calmed down," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "We certainly need him in our rotation, to get him back. We're going to be playing a lot of big ball games in September, and we'd love to get him back in that mix at that time. But he's going to have to work his tail off, get the arm strength back."
