Sat Mar 5 201115:17Scheppers' MRI comes back clean
An MRI on Tanner Scheppers' back has come back negative, but he's still been scratched from Tuesday's scheduled appearance.
It's possible the right-hander could have an injection on Monday to try to relieve some of the pain. Scheppers struggled through his most recent outing with the back injury and admittedly foolishly tried to pitch through it, but luckily he doesn't appear to have done more damage. He should be back appearing in games sometime next week.

Fri Mar 4 201111:57Scheppers undergoes MRI on stiff back
Rangers prospect Tanner Scheppers underwent an MRI on his stiff back early Friday morning.
Scheppers allowed four runs in less than an inning of work in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, then he complained of back stiffness afterward. He's hoping to be able to make his next start four days from now, but the MRI results will tell that tale.

Thu Mar 3 201119:15Scheppers dealing with lower back stiffness
Tanner Scheppers complained of lower back stiffness after leaving his Thursday start against the Cubs.
That might explain the poor velocity and subsequently poor results. The Rangers are hoping to reevaluate Scheppers on Friday morning. The 24-year-old prospect posted a 90/30 K/BB over 80 minor league innings last season and is likely to open 2011 at the Triple-A level.

Thu Mar 3 201117:30Scheppers knocked around Thursday
Rangers pitching prospect Tanner Scheppers was knocked around for four runs over 2/3 of an inning Thursday against the Cubs.
The youngster gave up five hits, walked two and struck out no one. Of more concern than the poor outing was the scouting report from ESPN's Keith Law, who said Scheppers was throwing only 88-91 MPH and his "arm speed was gone." The right-hander can traditionally dial it up in the upper-90s and touch triple digits when he's on. He's had shoulder problems in the past, so this is definitely a concern and something to keep an eye on.

Wed Feb 16 201116:33Scheppers likely to start in Triple-A
Tanner Scheppers will open this season in the rotation at Triple-A if he fails to make the big league roster.
In other words, he is already being ticketed for the minors. Scheppers is a promising young pitcher, but he's highly unlikely to land a gig in the major league rotation this spring and the Rangers probably won't want to play with his development by sticking him in the bullpen. The 24-year-old finished with a 90/30 K/BB ratio over 80 minor league innings in 2010.

Mon Jul 19 201016:41Rangers moved Scheppers back to bullpen
The Rangers have moved prospect right-hander Tanner Scheppers back to the bullpen at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Rangers have tried Scheppers as a starter over the past month, however he posted a 5.84 ERA in six outings. He has been dominant as a reliever this season, posting a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. As T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com notes, it is a sign that the 23-year-old could be used out of the bullpen in the major leagues at some point this season.

Thu Jun 10 201018:16Scheppers to start for Triple-A Oklahoma City
Tanner Scheppers, who had pitched primarily out of the bullpen for both Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma City, will start for the RedHawks on Sunday.
Scheppers has been nothing short of dominant as a reliever this season, but if he can make a successful transition to starting, he becomes even more valuable. Scheppers is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP between Double-A and Triple-A this season, but has been battling a slight hamstring injury over the last few weeks.

Mon Jun 7 201011:57Scheppers placed on minor league DL
Rangers pitching prospect Tanner Scheppers has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City with a mild hamstring strain.
Scheppers' prized right arm is unaffected, so there's little reason to worry about the injury. The 2009 first-round pick should be good to go in a little over a week. He has a 1.50 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 30 innings this season between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Fri Apr 30 201015:33Rangers prospect Scheppers up to Triple-A
The Rangers have promoted Tanner Scheppers from Double-A Frisco to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Scheppers, a 2009 supplemental first-round pick, had allowed one run and three hits and posted a 19/0 K/BB ratio in his 11 innings for Double-A Frisco. A few good weeks in Triple-A could get him to the majors in a setup role.

Fri Apr 23 201013:31Rangers prospect Scheppers fans four
Tanner Scheppers remained dominant in relief for Double-A Frisco on Thursday, striking out four in two scoreless innings.
Scheppers might be this year's Neftali Feliz for the Rangers. The 2009 supplemental first-round pick has allowed just three hits and posted a 13/0 K/BB ratio in eight innings for the RoughRiders. He's a definite health risk, which is why Texas has him in the pen in the first place, but he has a chance to be an impact reliever.
