Since blowing his last save on May 6, Guerra has posted 5 1/3 scoreless innings, as middle relief appears to suit him and Dodgers much better. As a result, his once monstrous ERA has dropped 176 points to 4.08. |

Javy Guerra blew a save opportunity in Sunday's 11-inning loss to the Cubs. |

Fri Apr 27 2012 | 19:45 | Guerra dealing with sore foot |
Javy Guerra is dealing with a sore foot, an injury suffered from wrenching it as he was struck by a line drive in Wednesday's game. |
He'll be re-evaluated after he throws on Friday, but isn't expected to need any time on the disabled list at this point. Guerra has struggled in his last few outings, and has to worry that this might open the door for Kenley Jansen to take over the closer's role. Stay tuned. |

Thu Apr 26 2012 | 08:46 | Mattingly: Guerra will remain Dodgers' closer |
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly insisted Wednesday that Javy Guerra will remain the team's closer. |
Guerra blew his second save of the season, was handed his second straight loss and also took a line drive off the face Wednesday night against the Braves. But he passed a concussion test and Mattingly has full confidence that the 26-year-old right-hander will be able to bounce back. Now is the time to add setup man Kenley Jansen, just in case Guerra doesn't turn it around. |

Thu Apr 26 2012 | 01:28 | Javy Guerra takes second loss in as many days |
Javy Guerra blew his second save and took his second loss in as many days in Wednesday's setback against the Braves, allowing three runs on five hits while recording just one out. |
We could have a problem on our hands. Guerra has now allowed four runs and seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings in little more than 24 hours, ballooning his ERA from 2.16 to 5.59. Kenley Jansen, meanwhile, protected a 2-1 lead with a scoreless eighth inning this evening. Guerra should have one more life as the Dodgers' stopper, but if you're an owner with an extra roster spot, there's no time like the present to scoop up Jansen as a handcuff. |

Fri Apr 20 2012 | 23:24 | Guerra notches seventh save |
Javy Guerra struck out two over a scoreless inning against the Astros on Friday night en route to his seventh save of the season. |
After blowing his first attempt of the season earlier in the week, Guerra has responded beautifully by recording saves on back-to-back nights. While Kenley Jansen apologists will argue that he's better suited for the job, Guerra has been awfully impressive thus far. |

Tue Apr 17 2012 | 23:34 | Guerra blows first save in loss to Brew Crew |
Javy Guerra blew his first save of the season against the Brewers on Tuesday, surrendering two runs on two hits in just 1/3 of an inning. |
Guerra had been perfect in his first five save chances, before falling apart in this one. After a single and a walk to start the inning, he struck out Jonathan Lucroy for the first out before pinch hitter George Kottaras laced a game-winning two-run double to right. Guerra has shown enough to be given some amount of leash, though Kenley Jansen is certainly lurking over his shoulder. |

Thu Apr 12 2012 | 01:26 | Javy Guerra records fourth save |
Javy Guerra notched his fourth save with a perfect inning Wednesday against the Pirates. |
Kenley Jansen set him up by striking out the side in the eighth, but Jansen has made no in-roads on the closer's role yet, not with Guerra a perfect 4-for-4 with a 0.00 ERA to start the season. |

Thu Apr 5 2012 | 22:24 | Guerra records save on Opening Day |
Javy Guerra picked up his first save of the season Thursday, working a perfect ninth inning against the Padres. |
Guerra, who has struggled with control issues in the past, threw nine of his 14 pitches for strikes. With his clean inning, along with Kenley Jansen serving up a two-run HR to Cameron Maybin in the 8th, Guerra's job security should increase. He may not be able to hold of Jansen all season, but his job appears safe for now. |

Wed Mar 7 2012 | 20:39 | Mattingly: Javy Guerra is our closer |
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly confirmed Wednesday that Javy Guerra will open the year at closer. |
"It's defined," Mattingly told the Los Angeles Daily News. "Javy's the guy. We know who the guy is right now." Kenley Jansen and his swing-and-miss stuff will be breathing down Guerra's neck from the outset, but the 26-year-old from Denton, Texas has an impressive arsenal of his own and could feasibly maintain the ninth-inning role throughout the entire 2012 campaign. |
