Thu Aug 19 2021 | 16:01 | Andrew Heaney Throws Gem Against Red Sox |
New York Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Heaney hasn't had the easiest time since coming over from the Angels, but he showed off his upside Wednesday night, allowing just one run on two hits and and two walks to the Red Sox in seven innings. He struck out four batters en route to his eighth win of the year. Heaney has had plenty of trouble with home runs, and the lone run allowed in this one came via a solo shot as well. If Heaney can keep the ball in the ballpark, he has the strikeout upside, with 135 in 116 innings, to be plenty valuable in fantasy. |

Fri Aug 13 2021 | 09:13 | Andrew Heaney Allows Seven Earned Runs |
New York Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Heaney struggled in Thursday's loss to the White Sox. Heaney pitched five innings, matching his season-high by allowing seven earned runs on five hits, including three long balls. He struck out five and walked three, as he didn't factor into the decision. Heaney has struggled so far as a Yankee, yielding 15 runs and a whopping eight home runs through his first 15 innings pitched. The southpaw has flashed his strikeout potential, though his inability to keep the ball in the park makes him a streaming option at best in fantasy leagues. |

Sat Aug 7 2021 | 16:50 | Andrew Heaney Fans Nine In First Win As Yankee |
New York Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Heaney earned his first win as a member of his new club Saturday against the Mariners. Heaney went six innings, allowing four runs on four hits while walking a trio of batters. The lefty had the strikeout stuff working, as he fanned nine hitters while generating 12 whiffs, eight of them on his fastball. Heaney has struggled at times with his fastball, but the improved control and command were evident on Saturday, as he leaned on the offering to put away Mariners hitters. Heaney still sports an unimpressive 5.45 ERA but his strikeout ability is unquestioned, with 126 punchouts across 104 innings. Still, he's probably best avoided in his next matchup, a tough one against the White Sox. |

Tue Aug 3 2021 | 10:36 | Andrew Heaney Serves Up Four Homers In Yankee Debut |
New York Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Heaney struggled mightily in his debut at Yankee Stadium Monday night, taking the loss against the Orioles. Heaney went just four innings, surrendering four runs on six hits, all of them homers. He did strike out four while issuing no walks, but he struggled with leaving pitches out over the heart of the plate. The ability to rack up punchouts is there- 27.9 percent strikeout rate and 13 percent swinging-strike rate- though Heaney's fly-ball tendencies did not play well at all in his first outing in the Bronx. Heaney is lined up to face the Mariners next, who have tagged him for eight earned runs in 7 1/3 innings this year. |

Fri Jul 30 2021 | 22:15 | Gallo, Rizzo excited to join Yankees for playoff drive |
MIAMI (AP) — With a pair of new sluggers in place, the New York Yankees are ready to make their playoff drive. First baseman Anthony Rizzo homered in his Yankees debut Friday night and All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo also suited up with New York for the first time in the opener of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. New York obtained Gallo and left-handed reliever Joely RodrĂguez from the Texas Rangers for four minor league prospects Thursday. Rizzo’s nine-year tenure with the Chicago Cubs ended after he was sent to the Yankees for two prospects. Entering the weekend series at Miami, the Yankees were 8 1/2 games behind AL East leader Boston and 3 1/2 behind Oakland for the league's second wild card. “I’ve been hearing for some time that it was a possibility, that New York was in play for me,” Gallo said. “I grew up a huge Yankee fan. My family is from New York. It was pretty surreal they told me I was going to the Yankees. A great opportunity — it’s an amazing team to be a part... [ More] |
Fri Jul 30 2021 | 21:15 | Yankees get Angels lefty starter Heaney for 2 minor leaguers |
MIAMI (AP) — The New York Yankees acquired Los Angeles Angels starter Andrew Heaney on Friday, adding a pitcher after making two big trades for sluggers. The Yankees got the 30-year-old lefty and cash for minor league right-handers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero. New York began the day at 53-48, fourth in the AL wild-card race for two spots. As Friday's trade deadline approached, the Yankees got All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo from Texas and star first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs. Heaney was 6-7 with a 5.27 ERA in 18 starts for the Angels this year. He is 30-36 with a 4.57 ERA in eight seasons with Miami and Los Angeles — he posted his first big league win against the Yankees in 2015. Angels general manager Perry Minasian said one major reason for the move was the development of Reid Detmers, who will make his major-league debut on Saturday against Oakland. Detmers was the 10th overall pick in the 2020 draft, threw six shutout innings and struck out nine in his only start... [ More] |

Heaney will join a rotation that includes ace Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, Jameson Taillon and Domingo Germán. The 25-year-old Junk was 4-1 with a 1.78 ERA at Double-A Somerset. The 24-year-old Peguero was a combined 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 21 relief appearances for High-A Hudson Valley and Somerset. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports |
Fri Jul 30 2021 | 17:36 | Andrew Heaney Expected To Join Rotation |
New York Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Heaney is expected to join the rotation, per manager Aaron Boone. Heaney was acquired from the Angels in exchange for prospects Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero. The 30-year-old lefty has pitched to an underwhelming 5.27 ERA but ranks among the top 25 pitchers in K-BB percentage. With the Yankees wanting to be mindful of the respective workloads of Jameson Taillon- as well as Luis Severino (shoulder, groin) and Corey Kluber (shoulder)- look for Heaney to provide some depth. His strikeout upside is worth looking at in fantasy formats, but investors should be wary of how his fly-ball tendencies will play in Yankee Stadium, leaving him as more of a streamer. |

Fri Jul 30 2021 | 16:05 | Angels Ship Off Andrew Heaney To Yankees |
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney has been traded to the New York Yankees, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. There's no word yet on the return, but Heaney should provide some depth to New York's rotation after going 6-7 with a 5.27 ERA, 1.309 WHIP and 28.2 percent strikeout rate over 18 starts. He could see a slight boost in value heading to New York, but with a 4.22 xERA there aren't any signs of a huge turnaround in the second half of the season. |

Thu Jul 29 2021 | 10:34 | Andrew Heaney Completes Quality Start Wednesday |
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney got the no-decision in Wednesday's 8-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies. He threw six innings, giving up three runs, three walks, and picking up eight strikeouts. It was his second quality start in a row after allowing two runs over seven innings on July 22. Wednesday's outing lowered his ERA to 5.27, and he now has a 28.2 K% with a 7.7 BB%. Heaney is an option in deeper leagues, continuing to help fantasy managers with his high strikeout numbers, but won't do much in the other categories. |

NEW YORK (AP) — Eduardo Rodriguez shut down the short-handed Yankees into the sixth inning, Christian Arroyo and J.D.
