Buehrle (11-8) was lit up by the visiting Orioles on Tuesday, getting blasted for 10 hits -- two of them homers -- while giving up four earned runs in four innings. He also struck out three and walked three in the loss.
At this rate, the once 10-1 Buehrle is in real danger of somehow finishing the season at .500 or worse -- remarkable considering his torrid start to the season. His ERA has shot up from 2.10 to 3.27 since June 1, an 11-start span in which he's served up 11 bombs in 64.2 innings after giving up just two in his first 81 innings from April to June. Buehrle's struggles and inability to keep the ball down, mixed with a variety of other issues -- primarily offensive -- are a big reason why the Jays blew the AL East lead and now sit five games back of the Orioles. The 35-year-old draws a very tough matchup in his next start Sunday against the Tigers.

Buehrle picked up his 11th victory of the season Wednesday against the Red Sox, throwing 6.2 innings of one-run ball with six hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Buehrle had been on a nine-start winless streak, dating back to June 1. The lefty put a rose on a pretty ugly July where he went 1-2 with a 5.74 ERA, 1.84 and 15:7 K:BB in 26.2 innings over five starts. Buehrle will take the mound Tuesday against the Orioles.
Wed Jul 30 201422:20Mark Buehrle earns first win since June 1
Mark Buehrle held the Red Sox to one run in 6 2/3 innings to finally pick up his 11th win Wednesday.
Buehrle had been stuck on 10 wins for nearly two months, going 0-6 in his previous nine starts. He does have a favorable outing coming up next, facing an Astros team he's 4-0 with a 0.89 ERA against lifetime. That might be tasty enough to make him worth using in mixed leagues again.

Fri Jul 25 201422:06Buehrle lasts just three innings vs. Yanks
Mark Buehrle was tagged for six runs over three innings in Friday's loss to the Yankees.
It was his shortest start of the season. Buehrle allowed nine hits (including a pair of home runs) and one walk before being pulled. He has allowed 11 runs in nine innings over his past two starts, increasing his ERA from 2.64 to 3.19 in the process. He'll attempt to rebound against the Red Sox next week in Boston.

Sun Jul 20 201416:38Mark Buehrle not sharp in no-decision
Mark Buehrle wasn't very good but escaped with a no-decision Sunday, permitting five runs across six frames in a 9-6 victory.
Buehrle struck out five but allowed eight hits and uncharacteristically struggled with his control, walking three. He also balked in a run. After picking up 10 wins in his first 12 starts, Buehrle has gone winless in his last eight outings. He has a pedestrian 4.06 ERA over that stretch, as the early-season magic has faded. Buehrle will try to get back into the win column next weekend against the Yankees.

The veteran southpaw also walked one while striking out three on the night. He departed in line for his 11th victory, but his bullpen was unable to hold onto a 5-2 lead. He'll head into the All-Star break with an impressive 10-6 record, 2.64 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 73/32 K/BB ratio over his first 126 1/3 innings.

Sun Jun 29 201415:45Buehrle takes fourth loss in last five starts
Mark Buehrle fell to 10-5, allowing two runs over eight innings in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
Buehrle pitched well, but Jose Quintana was better, resulting in Buehrle taking his fourth loss out of his last five starts (the other being a no-decision). Buehrle limited the White Sox to six hits -- including Moises Sierra's fourth-inning solo homer -- while walking two and striking out five. Buehrle's stats remain impressive, as he has a 2.50 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 67/30 K/BB ratio. The lefty will face the Athletics on the road in his next start.

Mark Buehrle took the no-decision, allowing four runs over 6 2/3 innings in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

Mark Buehrle fell to 10-4, allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees.
A Brett Lawrie fielding error led to an unearned run being scored in the first inning. Buehrle then made a fourth-inning mistake, surrendering a two-run home run to Brian McCann. Overall, the lefty allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out four in the effort. He's lost each of his past three starts and now has a 2.32 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and a 59/28 K/BB ratio. Buehrle will face the Yankees again next week, but will have home field advantage.

Thu Jun 12 201422:23Buehrle off the mark, takes 3rd loss vs. O's
Mark Buehrle fell to 10-3, allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings as the Blue Jays were defeated 4-2 by the Orioles on Thursday.
It was Buehrle's worst start since the end of April and it wasn't really that bad of a start. He made a mistake in the first inning, surrendering a two-run home run to Delmon Young, but was otherwise solid. He allowed eight hits overall while walking one and striking out three. Buehrle maintains a fantastic 2.28 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP and a 55/26 K/BB ratio in 92 2/3 innings. He'll look to rebound against the Yankees on the road in his next turn on the rubber.

Mark Buehrle delivered another strong performance on Saturday, but was saddled with his second loss of the season since the Blue Jays were unable to provide any semblance of run support.
Buehrle surrendered just one run, a solo homer to Randall Grichuk, on five hits over seven strong innings. He also punched out six on the afternoon while issuing five walks. He has been simply outstanding this season, posting a 10-2 record, 2.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 52/25 K/BB ratio over 88 1/3 innings. He'll look to continue his inexplicable dominance on Thursday when he takes on the Orioles in Baltimore.

Thu May 22 201419:29Mark Buehrle sends Red Sox to another loss
Mark Buehrle limited the Red Sox to two runs in seven innings to earn his eighth victory Thursday.
Buehrle avenged his one loss, an April 25 beating in which he gave up seven runs -- six earned -- and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings. That previous start against Boston was the only one all year in which he'd allowed more than three runs (or two earned). The homer David Ortiz hit off him that day is still the only one he's given up this year.

Mon May 12 201422:33Mark Buehrle moves to 7-1
Mark Buehrle became baseball's first seven-game winner after allowing two runs in six innings Monday against the Angels.
It was bend-but-don't-break Buehrle tonight, as the left-hander walked five and allowed six hits, but held the Angels to just the two runs. The five walks were two more than he had issued in any of his previous starts this season. Of course, Buehrle isn't going to keep this up, but it is a really nice story. At this rate, he'll clinch his 14th straight 10-win season around June 1.

Buehrle earned his MLB-leading sixth win of the season. The crafty lefty allowed only three hits, walked two, and struck out six. Buehrle's ERA fell to 1.91, and Wednesday's outing marked the fifth out of seven starts in which he has allowed one or fewer runs. Buehrle will face the Angels at home in his next outing.

Thu May 1 201422:53Buehrle improves to 5-1 with win over Royals
Mark Buehrle became the third pitcher in baseball to five wins, allowing three runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 innings against the Royals on Thursday.
Buehrle allowed seven hits, walked two, and struck out four. The lefty is enjoying a renaissance season at the age of 35, even including his recent shellacking against the Red Sox on April 25. He now owns a 2.25 ERA in 40 innings over six starts. Buehrle is also nine wins away from a career milestone, 200 wins. At his current rate, he'll pick it up in June, but late July would seem more reasonable.

Fri Apr 25 201422:06Mark Buehrle blasted by Red Sox in first loss
Mark Buehrle was absolutely blasted by the Red Sox on Friday, allowing six runs on 12 hits over 5 1/3 innings in his first loss of the 2014 season.
The veteran southpaw walked three and didn't record a strikeout in the rough outing. It had been clear that a correction was coming after posting a 0.62 ERA, not allowing a homer and posting a strand rate over 90% through his first four starts, and it caught up to him in a big way on Friday. He'll now carry a 2.16 ERA and 1.23 WHIP into Thursday's start against the Royals in Kansas City.

Sat Apr 19 201415:58Buehrle hurls seven scoreless innings in win
Mark Buehrle continued his early season dominance, hurling seven shutout innings to defeat the Indians on Saturday afternoon.
Buehrle surrendered just four hits and three walks while striking out three. The 35-year-old southpaw is now a perfect 4-0 on the season with a stellar 0.64 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 19/5 K/BB ratio through his first 28 innings. He certainly won't continue at this pace, and may not even prove to be mixed league relevant the remainder of the season, but he should continue to be started until he comes back to earth. He'll look for his fifth victory when he takes on the Royals in Kansas City on Thursday.
