Thu Mar 2 2023 | 22:52 | Marco Luciano Takes Batting Practice |
San Francisco Giants top infield prospect Marco Luciano (back) has advanced to taking regular batting practice. Luciano suffered a lower back stress fracture during the offseason and is slowly building things back up. He is ranked 22nd on MLB's top-100 prospect list and is expected to be ready for the opening of the Double-A Richmond season. The 21-year-old has impressive raw power, which blends well with his dynamic glove. Luciano spent most of his 2022 campaign with the Giants' High-A affiliate, the Eugene Emeralds. He slashed .263/.339/.459 with a .798 OPS and 10 home runs. He posted a .357 wOBA along with a 22.2% strikeout rate. The Dominican native is poised to become the starting shortstop for the Giants at some point along the way, but he isn't an asset in redraft leagues just yet. |

Wed Nov 16 2022 | 18:28 | Marco Luciano Added To 40-Man Roster |
The San Francisco Giants added infielders Marco Luciano and Brett Wisely, right-handers Tristan Beck, Jose Cruz and Keaton Winn and outfielder Luis Matos to their 40-man roster on Tuesday. Wisely was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder Tristan Peters. According to MLB Pipeline, Luciano is the club's top prospect. Matos checks in at No. 3. The 21-year-old Luciano played in 57 games with High-A Eugene in 2022 and hit .263/.339/.459 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI and 27 runs scored in 230 plate appearances. He generates a lot of bat speed from the right side of the plate and should continue advancing up the Giants' minor-league ladder in 2023. Luciano is a power over hit-tool guy at the next level. |

Tue Sep 20 2022 | 16:32 | Marco Luciano Joins Double-A For Postseason |
After winning a High-A title, San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano has joined Double-A Richmond for the playoffs. It will allow Luciano to get some extra at-bats after a back injury kept him out for most of the summer. The 21-year-old is the team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and it sets him up to begin next season at Richmond. The Dominican shortstop played in 57 games for High-A Eugene this year, slashing .263/.339/.459 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI and 27 runs scored in 230 plate appearances. The right-handed hitter has elite bat speed and plenty of power for his age, but he'll need to cut down on his strikeout and chase rates at the plate if he's going to have success at the higher levels of the minors moving forward. |

Fri Aug 19 2022 | 09:00 | Marco Luciano Returns To Action |
San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano (back) returned to the lineup on Thursday for the first time since June 3. The Giants top prospect had been sidelined with a back injury, but he looked healthy on Thursday for High-A Eugene. In the contest, the 20-year-old went 1-for-4 with a single. Luciano is a consensus top-20 prospect and has shown plenty of pop in his young career, but he could use some more patience at the plate. Despite not reaching any level above High-A in his young career, Luciano is talented enough to rise through the ranks quickly and could be helping the big-league club as soon as next year. Health of course will play a factor, but dynasty managers should already be rostering Luciano, and he could make an impact in redraft leagues as soon as next year. |

Fri Aug 5 2022 | 14:47 | Marco Luciano Begins Rehab Assignment |
San Francisco Giants shortstop Marco Luciano (back), the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, started his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday. Luciano has been out since suffering a lower back strain in June. The No. 8 overall prospect in all of baseball was hitting .288/.360/.507 with eight home runs and 17 RBI in 40 games for High-A Eugene before he landed on the injured list. In his first rehab game on Thursday, he went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. The 20-year-old has plus power at the plate and an above-average arm at shortstop. Barring a setback, he should return to action at Eugene before long. |

Fri May 20 2022 | 11:35 | Marco Luciano Continues Success In High-A |
San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano continues to swing a hot bat for High-A Eugene. The talented shortstop went 2-for-5 on Thursday and homered for his second consecutive contest. For the season, Luciano is now hitting a cool .300 with six home runs, 13 RBI and a .896 OPS. Despite starting the season in High-A, there is a good chance that Luciano can move up the ladder before the season is over. The shortstop has a lightning quick swing and power to his game, but just has to work on his plate discipline. With as high of an upside as any prospect in the game, dynasty managers should continue to keep a strong eye on one of the games top prospects. |

Wed Apr 13 2022 | 11:00 | Marco Luciano Remains A Name To File Away |
San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano remains a player for managers in dynasty leagues to keep an eye on this season. Opening the season in High-A, Luciano has come out of the gate with a .333 batting average to go along with one home run and a pair of RBI through his first three games. The talented shortstop is just 20 years of age, but this will be his third season in the Giants farm system and there is a strong chance that he can rise through the minors quickly. This past season between Single A and High A, Luciano hit a combined .258 with 19 home runs, 71 RBI and six stolen bases. His biggest issue was that he struck out 122 times in 395 at-bats. With the ability hit the ball hard with a quick swing, Luciano just has to work more on his plate discipline, but as long as he can, Luciano has the makings of a future star in the big leagues. |

Wed Feb 9 2022 | 16:56 | Marco Luciano Has Eye-Opening Middle-Infield Power |
San Francisco Giants shortstop Marco Luciano, who finished as MLB Pipeline's No. 5 overall prospect in 2021, has elite bat speed that gives him more power potential than any other middle-infield prospect in baseball. He was able to produce 19 home runs in 106 games between Low-A and High-A in his first full season in the minor leagues in 2021. The 20-year-old slashed .258/.344/.471 with 71 RBI, six stolen bases and 68 runs scored in 106 games for Single-A San Jose and High-A Eugene last season. Luciano's raw power stands out, but he's developing at the plate and learning to use the entire field and take his walks. The worst-case scenario is that he'll move to third base or a corner outfield spot, but his bat gives him the potential to be a superstar at the MLB level, possibly as soon as 2023. |
