Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel will have to wait even longer before playing this season.Gurriel had surgery on his left hand Wednesday and the normal recovery time is six weeks.Opening day for the World Series champions is March 29, when the Astros visit Texas. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pitchers Garrett Richards, Tyler Skaggs and Matt Shoemaker agreed to one-year deals with the Los Angeles Angels along with the team's other seven arbitration-eligible players.Richards, the team's ace, agreed at $7.3 million. He made one start last April before missing the next five months while rehabbing a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. The New York Yankees optioned Luis Severino to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and added fellow right-hander Blake Parker to their active roster prior to Wednesday's game versus the Boston Red Sox.Severino returned to the Yankees' starting rotation this week after working out of the bullpen. He lasted only 4 1/3 innings on Tuesday in his first start since May 13, giving up seven hits and five earned runs.For the season, Severino owns a 1-7 mark with a 6.42 ERA.The Yankees claimed Parker from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.The Mariners had designated Parker for assignment when they acquired Arquimedes Caminero from the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend. Parker has only pitched one inning in the majors this season, giving up one hit, one walk and no runs.

The Cubs released Parker one day after designating him for assignment.

Parker saved 92 games in his nine years in the Cubs' organization, but only one of them came in the majors.

Parker made just three appearances with Triple-A Iowa to begin the season before an undisclosed ailment forced him onto the 7-day DL. The right-hander posted a 2.72 ERA in 49 appearances with the big club in 2013, but was knocked around to the tune of a 5.14 ERA in 18 appearances last season.

Parker was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

A day after Parker gave up two runs on three hits, including a home run, in just one inning to raise his spring ERA to 9.00, the Cubs decided to include him in Thursday's round of cuts from major league camp. Although he struggled last year, Parker had a 2.72 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 49 appearances in 2013 and figures to get another opportunity in the first half of the season.

Parker started Tuesday's Cactus League game and gave up two runs and three hits - including a home run - in one inning.

Parker started the game under strange circumstances, as scheduled starter Edwin Jackson was late when he got lost on the way to the park. Parker has given up six runs and nine hits in six innings this spring. Though he could see some time in the Cubs' bullpen this year, he'll likely be headed to Triple-A Iowa in the next week or so.

Parker was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.

Parker will serve as the 26th man in the second leg of Thursday's doubleheader. He'll provide them with an extra arm in relief for the night cap, but will likely be headed back to Iowa following the game.
