Sat Jul 23 201108:47Manny Parra won't make it back this season
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Manny Parra (elbow) will not make it back to the big leagues this season.
Parra has been sidelined all season, first with a back ailment and more recently an elbow issue that's kept him out since early May. Frankly, it's surprising that he hasn't undergone surgery at this point, and it seems possible that he'll still need it at some point down the line to repair an ulnar collateral strain and flexor strain.

Sun May 29 201108:55Manny Parra to go to extended spring
Manny Parra (elbow) will report to extended spring training soon to begin a throwing program.
Parra last week visited orthopedic specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum, who provided the "same report as our doctors here gave him," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. It appears, at least for the time being, that Parra, who has an ulnar collateral strain and flexor strain in his elbow, won't need surgery, but there's no timetable for his return.

They made the move to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Danny Herrera. Parra was shut down after feeling pain in his sprained left elbow during a Friday bullpen session and will see orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum this week for a second opinion. Tommy John surgery is a possibility.

Wed May 4 201120:32Manny Parra shut down with sprained elbow
Manny Parra has been shut down from his rehab assignment due to an ulnar collateral ligament sprain and flexor tendon strain.
That's not good. Parra has been rehabbing from a back injury, but the elbow injuries he's been shut down with are often a precursor to Tommy John surgery. For now, the Brewers will hope he recovers with a little downtime. Obviously, his return date is completely up in the air now.

Sun May 1 201109:00Manny Parra will be ready soon
Manny Parra (back) is expected to be activated from the disabled list soon.
He had been scheduled to be back by now, but the Brewers decided a week ago to extend his rehab assignment. Parra has actually not pitched well in two outings since then, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk over three innings, but evidently the Brewers have decided he's ready. Takashi Saito's recent setback might be a factor in them wanting to get another arm down in the bullpen. Parra will likely pitch in the middle innings, at least initially.

Sun Apr 24 201109:12Manny Parra's rehab extended
The Brewers have decided to lengthen Manny Parra's (back) rehab assignment.
Parra has allowed five runs while striking out nine over 8 1/3 rehab innings. It's not clear how many more rehab outings he'll have. "We've kind of lengthened that a little bit," Roenicke said of Parra's rehab assignment. "I'm not sure when he's going again. Just trying to make sure with him that everything is right with his back."

Manny Parra (back) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks over 1 1/3 innings Tuesday in a minor league rehab appearance with Triple-A Nashville.
Parra retired the side in order in his first inning of work, but after beginning his second inning with a strikeout, he allowed a double, an RBI single and then a pair of walks before being pulled from the game. He'll need a few more appearances with the Sounds before being activated from the disabled list.

Manny Parra (back) threw two perfect innings while striking out four in a rehab appearance for Single-A Wisconsin.
The lefty will move up to Triple-A Nashville to make a couple appearances before being reevaluated. Assuming he fares well and doesn't suffer a setback, he'll likely rejoin the Brewers bullpen after those outings.

Wed Apr 6 201119:08Rehab assignment close for Manny Parra
Manny Parra (back) threw two simulated innings Wednesday and will begin a rehab assignment Saturday.
Parra has made steady progress since getting an injection in his back to relieve a facet joint injury. "I'm at the point now where I don't even think about it," Parra said. "I get my treatment and do other stuff to maintain where I'm at right now, but I'm past [the injury]. I felt really good. I just have to get my endurance up. You can run all you want, but it's not the same as throwing." The plan during Parra's rehab would be to throw one inning in his first appearance and then have a bullpen session before finishing with a multiple-inning appearance. He seems in line for a late April return.

Fri Mar 11 201103:27Parra still wants to be a starter
Manny Parra has not given up on returning to the starting rotation at some point.
"Ultimately, I want to be a great starter," said Parra. "That's what I came up thinking I would be." He might have been considered as a short-term replacement for the injured Zack Greinke, but Parra's back injury likely will keep him out of the mix for now. At this point, he thinks he will be healthy enough to pitch by Opening Day.

Tue Jan 18 201113:21Brewers, Parra agree to one-year contract
Brewers and LHP Manny Parra avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year contract.
Parra was eligible for arbitration this winter for the first time in his career. The 28-year-old southpaw finished with an ugly 5.02 ERA and 1.62 WHIP last season and then required surgery on a labrum tear in his left hip in late October. He is expected to pitch solely in relief this year.
