Headley smashed his seventh home run -- and the 100th of his career -- as part of a 2-for-5 night in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies.

Headley is currently riding a six-game hitting streak, having scored once in every game in that span as well. His numbers on the whole are a down from his average production, as he owns a slash line of just .256/.304/.376, but the third baseman has been showing signs of turning it around of late.

Headley is out of the lineup Sunday agains the Tigers.

Headley hasn't received a day off since May 13, so the timing was likely right for a regular maintenance day, despite logging a multi-hit game in two of the last three contests. Brendan Ryan will take over at the hot corner, while Didi Gregorius bats second in the order.

Headley re-upped with the Yankees in December despite the return from suspension of Alex Rodriguez, and since then the 30-year-old has been treated as the everyday third baseman. The team will likely try to get Rodriguez some extra at bats by occasionally playing him at the hot corner, but Headley should once again be a safe bet to be the regular option there. The switch hitter experienced an uptick in his production after getting traded midseason last year, slashing .262/.371/.398 in the Bronx, and will likely benefit from a full season in a hitter-friendly park.

Headley has signed a 4-year, $52-million deal with the Yankees, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

While he probably won't put up a .371 on-base percentage with the Yankees again this season, Headley should still be valuable long-term for them thanks to his defense. The 30-year-old's offense will likely continue to diminish though; his batting average has gone down every year since 2011. This will likely displace the returning Alex Rodriguez to more of a DH/back-up third base situation.
