Fri Aug 21 201518:59Giavotella sent home Friday with illness
Giavotella was sent home Friday with an illness, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
His absence appeared innocent enough -- he hadn't had a day off since late June -- but apparently it's an illness that will keep Giavotella out Friday. Giavotella's status for the rest of the weekend is up in the air, but look for Ryan Jackson to continue filling in at second base if he's forced to miss additional time.
Fri Aug 21 201517:56Giavotella not in lineup for Friday's game against Blue Jays
Giavotella is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays.
Ryan Jackson will get the start at second base against lefty David Price, pushing Giavotella to the bench for the first time in nearly two months. His last absence came all the way back on June 26. Giavotella hit safely in 10 of his first 11 games of August but has since gone 5-for-29.

Giavotella is in the lineup as the lead off hitter Thursday, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.
After hitting seventh each of the last three games with lefties on the mound, Giavotella will return to the top of the order with right-hander Jeremy Guthrie on the hill for Kansas City.

Giavotella went 3-for-6 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's victory over the Orioles.
Giavotella had a solid series against the Orioles, going 5-for-13 with a pair of extra-base hits and two runs scored. He's boosted his average up to .268, but still doesn't have much in the way of power or speed.

Giavotella went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in an 8-4 win over the Orioles on Friday.
Giavotella was recently moved out of the leadoff spot and he responded well here with his first multi-hit game in August. Giavotella is hard to trust for fantasy purposes, simply because he doesn't provide in any major category. His .266 average with three homers and two steals make him relevant in very few formats.

Giavotella went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored Friday in Seattle.
The 28-year-old celebrated his birthday with three hits out of the leadoff spot. Giavotella recorded multiple extra-base hits for just the second time all season, but also struck out for the first time since June 28. Manager Mike Scioscia values the second baseman's ability to make contact, and should continue to give him opportunities at the top of the order, allowing Giavotella to set the table for elite sluggers like Mike Trout and Albert Pujols.
Fri Jun 26 201517:21Giavotella out of Friday's lineup against Mariners
Giavotella is out of Friday's lineup against the Mariners.
Giavotella continues to receive everyday starts at second base, but will get a standard day off Friday. Taylor Featherston will start at second base in his place, batting ninth for the Angels.

Giavotella went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot Thursday in Arizona.
He went back-to-back with Taylor Featherston, which makes for about as unlikely a duo of boppers as you'll ever encounter. The strong performance snapped a recent skid for Giavotella, who'd gone just 1-for-14 over the prior four games. His regular playing time makes him a solid AL-only piece, but mixed-league players haven't been able to squeeze much fantasy value from Giavotella.
Tue Jun 16 201518:11Giavotella not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Diamondbacks
Giavotella is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Tyler Featherston will take over at the keystone and bat ninth, pushing Giavotella to the bench after 17 straight starts. Giavotella is hitless in his last three games (0-for-10), but has picked it up a bit this month after a dismal month of May (.239/.290/.315).

Giavotella was the hero on Sunday, coming up with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning in the Angels' 4-2 win over the Tigers.
The 27-year-old recently received a vote of confidence as the team's starting second baseman and has responded by hitting .400 over his last eight games, but he puts up meager totals of all counting stats and carries little fantasy value at the moment.
Fri May 29 201517:30Giavotella will bat leadoff in Friday's game against Tigers
Giavotella will bat leadoff in Friday's game against the Tigers, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports.
Giavotella has hit primarily out of the nine hole this season, but he will be bumped to the top of the batting order with Erick Aybar (hamstring) out Friday. Giavotella owns just one home run and one stolen base on the year, but he did go 7-for-14 (.500) at the plate over his last five games.

Giavotella will continue to see the majority of the starts at second base according to manager Mike Scioscia, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Giavotella received a day off Wednesday in favor of the recently-recalled Grant Green, but he remains the starting second baseman in the eyes of Angels' brass. It sounds like Green will be mixed in occasionally, but unless Giavotella falls into an even deeper slump, his job appears to be safe.
Wed May 27 201517:30Giavotella not in lineup Wednesday against Padres
Giavotella is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres.
Grant Green was recalled Tuesday and will get the nod at second base over Giavotella in the finale against San Diego. After an impressive month of April, Giavotella has gone 16-for-76 so far in May (.211/.265/.237), though the team has not indicated his role as the primary second baseman is in jeopardy.
Tue May 26 201512:37Giavotella 2-4 with first stolen base of season in Monday's win ...
Giavotella went 2-for-4 with his first stolen base of the season in Monday's win over the Padres.
Manager Mike Scioscia seems to have shown an increased willingness in recent days to give Taylor Featherston some more work at second base, but Giavotella may have bought himself a little more job security with Monday's showing. Even so, Giavotella's placement in the bottom third of one of the baseball's least-productive lineups isn't likely to dramatically jump start his production enough to make him especially useful outside of AL-only or very deep formats.
Mon May 25 201517:33Giavotella back in lineup Monday against San Diego
Giavotella is back in the lineup Monday against San Diego.
After taking the day off Sunday, Giavotella returns to the fold manning second base and batting ninth against Padres' starter Tyson Ross. Giavotella may be in danger of losing his grip on the second base job, as he's hitless in his last 13 at-bats and is just five for his last 37 at the plate during this slump.
Sun May 24 201513:15Giavotella out of lineup Sunday against Red Sox
Giavotella is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports.
Giavotella will be benched after going hitless across his last 13 at-bats, dropping him into a 5-for-37 funk. Taylor Featherston will get a look at the keystone Sunday, and if he can do anything with the opportunity, he could earn a timeshare at the position with Giavotella.
Wed May 20 201515:58Giavotella out of lineup Wednesday
Giavotella is out of the lineup Wednesday.
He has been in the lineup almost everyday for the Angels lately, so this is just a regular day off. Taylor Featherston will get the start at second base Wednesday.

Giavotella is hitting .274/.326/.342 with a homer, 15 RBI and 15 scored through 37 games for the Angels this season.
He's been held out of the starting lineup twice in 38 contests this season, taking over the starting second base spot this spring following the offseason trade of Howie Kendrick. The Angels will likely be in the market to upgrade at the keystone during the summer, but for now, the job appears to be Giavotella's to use.
Sat Apr 25 201517:24Giavoltella out of lineup Saturday
Giavoltella is out of the lineup Saturday.
Giavotella has solidified himself as the Angels' starting second baseman, but he will get a rare day off Saturday. Grant Green will get the start at the keystone.

Giavotella had a big night in Tuesday's win over the A's, going 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored.
Giavotella has been a nice find for owners off the wire early this season, as he is now slashing .317/.383/.439 with seven runs scored and seven RBI in his first 14 games. After years of sparse playing time in the majors, Giavotella may finally be showing what he can do with a full-time job, which could eventually result in a move up the lineup for the 27-year-old.
