Wada was able to throw four innings in an extended spring game on Tuesday, striking out six. If all goes well, he'll then proceed to a minor league rehab assignment. As long as he continues to progress, the Orioles believe he'll be ready to rejoin the team by June. With the struggles out of the fifth starter's spot, Wada could be a candidate to assume that role once he's ready, making him an interesting flier in deeper mixed leagues.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) is done with the rehab phase and will now work on becoming game-ready.
"Now he's going to progress to baseball function ability," Showalter said. "The breaking ball is going to start. It's exciting watching him throw. Now we can move to the next part of it, which is the baseball part of it - locating his pitches, spinning the ball. It's more, `I'm working on something that helps me get people out' as opposed to, `Am I healthy?'" Wada isn't expected to be an option for the O's until late May.

Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) threw another bullpen session on Thursday morning in Orioles camp.
Wada has begun mixing in breaking balls and trying to locate them as best he can. The left-hander is on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive surgery and is currently on track to make his Orioles debut by the end of mid-May. Wada signed a two-year, $8.15 million free agent contract with the O's in December 2011.

Tsuyoshi Wada threw off a mound Saturday as part of his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter watched the session and said the lefty looked good, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. The 32-year-old veteran of the Japanese Pacific League had the surgery in May and is likely still a few months away from a return. Wada has yet to make his major league debut.

It was his first mound workout since undergoing Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last May. "I was actually very happy and it was very fun," Wada told reporters. "I have been throwing on the half-mound, so it didn't feel awkward. It wasn't much of a difference, but it was very fun." He is expected to be ready by June.
