RHP Nick Tropeano has a medium- to high-grade tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow. Tropeano, 3-2 with a 3.56 ERA in 13 starts this season, will seek a second opinion before deciding whether to have Tommy John surgery or try to rehab using stem cell therapy. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

RHP Nick Tropeano left his start Monday against Texas after two innings because of a sore elbow, and he will undergo an MRI exam Tuesday.Tropeano allowed four runs on three hits, all of them home runs, while throwing 43 pitches. He also walked one, hit one and struck out two. Tropeano was on the 15-day disabled list because of a tight right shoulder before being activated June 24.

RHP Nick Tropeano, who began this season at Triple-A Salt Lake, is ready to emerge as a reliable starter. Cowart, the Angels' first pick in the June 2010 draft, would compete with INF Jefry Marte as the leading in-house candidates to replace 3B Yunel Escobar if Escobar is traded.

RHP Nick Tropeano continues improving. He gave the Angels his third quality start in his last five outings in Saturday's loss, even though the right-hander got a no-decision. Tropeano struck out eight and allowed one run on five hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. "Nick gave us a chance to win," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He did everything he could. He got us to a (good) point."

RHP Nick Tropeano was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake before the game and returned to the starting rotation Monday. He pitched five innings, holding the Rays to two runs on four hits. He gave up two solo home runs and got to 95 pitches quickly. He will need to be more efficient to keep his place in the rotation as the Angels get starters back from injuries.

"Early on he he was missing a little bit, not as pitch efficient as he was in his last outing, but somewhere around the fifth inning it looked like he got into a zone and had some clean innings in the fifth and sixth."

It marked the first time in 19 career major league starts that Tropeano lasted seven innings. He had not lasted at least six innings in any of his seven previous starts this year. "Nick did a great job," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "That game was a lot closer than maybe it looked, and he had to make some pitches to get out of some trouble. You can't ask for much more."

Tropeano continually pitched his way out of trouble but ended up leaving with the Angels trailing 2-1 after five innings, thanks in large part to the solo home run he served up to Seattle DH Nelson Cruz. Tropeano allowed two runs off five hits over five innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. His last win came on April 11, his first start of the season.

Tropeano is 2-0 with a 3.52 ERA in three career starts against Seattle, including one start earlier this season.

He yielded a two-run homer to 1B Eric Hosmer in the first inning but nothing else. "I think today was just a battle day for me," said Tropeano, who has a 2.11 ERA but just one victory. "I don't think I had my best stuff location-wise, but I made pitches when I had to, and that's why it's a team game. They picked me up tremendously offensively, and the bullpen was lights out."
