Tropeano started in place of LHP Andrew Heaney, who went on the disabled list last week. Tropeano, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, made his 12th career major league start and third against the A's. Last year, he went 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA, 16 strikeouts and two walks in two starts against Oakland. "Nick did a great job," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Had really good stuff. Pitch count got a little bit elevated. He had to work for every out, but when he got in some trouble, he made some pitches to get out of it, and we played good defense behind him."

Tropeano improved to 3-2 with a win Tuesday against Oakland, as he allowed just one run on three hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out 11.

Tropeano had never struck out more than five batters in any of his 11 major league starts dating back to 2014. He used 18 swinging strikes in 103 pitches to do it and induced six ground balls against just three fly balls to boot. He now owns an excellent 38:10 K:BB in 37 innings for the Angels and his ERA is down to 3.82.

Tropeano went 4.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in a 6-5 win over the Astros.

The 25-year-old pitched four shutout innings before getting pulled in the fifth against his former team. Tropeano racked up a high pitch count in his short outing, throwing 97 pitches in under five innings. The issue of longevity has plagued Tropeano this season, as he hasn't exceeded six innings in any of his six big league starts.

Tropeano allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings in his second win Tuesday against Seattle. He struck out five.

Tropeano induced eight swinging strikes in 83 pitches to power his five strikeouts. Tropeano has now made five spot starts for the Angels and hasn't thrown a quality start since the first one back in April. He does have a sharp 22:7 K:BB in his 25.2 innings, but his ERA sits at 5.26.

Tropeano will receive the start Tuesday in place of Matt Shoemaker, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

Although it wasn't officially announced, Tropeano was expected to receive the starts once Matt Shoemaker was ruled out. That's indeed the case, as he'll receive his second start in a row, but he probably won't figure into the rotation in the long run.

Tropeano took a no decision Monday against the Dodgers as he allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out five.

Tropeano induced 10 swinging strikes but was hit hard, as the Dodgers pegged him for three doubles out of his eight hits allowed. Tropeano has a solid 17:4 K:BB in his four major league starts this season, but he has given up 28 hits in just 20.2 innings and has a 5.66 ERA as a result.

Tropeano will start Monday against the Dodgers, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.

Matt Shoemaker will be pushed back at least five days due to a forearm strain, opening the door for Tropeano to step in for his fourth start for the Angels this season. Tropeano has allowed 10 runs in 16.1 innings with the big club so far this year, but he's been the victim of some poor luck (.364 opponents' BABIP, 56.5% LOB%).

Tropeano was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old righty is fully stretched out, but it is unclear if he will serve as a starter or as a reliever with the Angels in September. He has a 5.51 ERA in three starts this year for the Angels, but his 2.21 FIP suggests he could be better than that if given a longer look.

Tropeano was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

The Angels decided to add some middle-infield depth in Grant Green with Johnny Giavotella sick, and Tropeano was the roster casualty. Tropeano will be forced to stay down for 10 days -- unless the team places another player on the DL in the interim -- and thus miss out on a start. The right-hander gave up six runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings against the White Sox on Friday.

Tropeano was potentially pitching to hold on to the rotation spot vacated when the team sent Matt Shoemaker to Triple-A Salt Lake, but unraveled in the fifth inning, when the White Sox put up five runs on six hits. Manager Mike Scioscia told the Orange County Register after the outing that he had not decided whether Tropeano would make another start, but the team could opt to simply skip the spot until Shoemaker is eligible to be called up to face the Indians on Aug. 29.

Tropeano has been confirmed as Thursday's starter against the White Sox, Pedro Moura of the Orange County Register reports.

This was expected after the club sent Matt Shoemaker to the minors following two rocky outings, during which time he allowed 13 earned runs in 7.1 innings. There has been no word on whether Tropeano, who has notched a 4.81 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 82.1 innings at Triple-A Salt Lake this season, will remain in the rotation beyond the start Thursday.

Tropeano is a likely candidate to get called up and start Thursday when the Angels host the White Sox, the Orange County Register reports.

Tropeano has had two starts earlier this year, and now has an opening following the demotion of Matt Shoemaker and the season-ending surgery for C.J. Wilson. He has a 4.81 ERA and 1.498 WHIP at Triple-A Salt Lake, but also has 90 strikeouts in 82.1 innings, all in a really good hitting environment.

Tropeano will likely be called up to start Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

The Angels need a fifth starter after placing C.J. Wilson (elbow) on the disabled list, and it appears Tropeano will be the man for the job. The Angels have an off day next week, and Jered Weaver (hip) is close to rejoining the rotation, so Tropeano might not stick in the rotation beyond Sunday.

Tropeano was optioned back to Triple-A Salt Lake following Friday's start, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.

Tropeano took the loss Friday, surrendering four earned runs over six innings of work as the Angels fell to the Rangers. He threw 60 of his 91 pitches for strikes, logging four strikeouts in his second start of the season. The Angels sent him back down to Triple-A following Friday's game to clear room on the active roster for the recently acquired Conor Gillaspie.

Tropeano has been confirmed as the Angels' starter for Friday's game against the Rangers.

After he was scratched from his start at Triple-A on Wednesday, there was plenty of speculation that Tropeano would be called upon to take the hill Friday given that Jered Weaver (hip) is still not ready to return. That is indeed the case as Tropeano will make the start for the series opener with Texas. In his other start for the Angels this season, Tropeano went six scoreless innings with five strikeouts and a walk as he earned the win over Oakland.
