Sat Jul 1 202313:08Alek Manoah Moves Up To Double-A, Will Start Sunday
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah has been sent up to Double-A New Hampshire and will start on Sunday. After being demoted to the minors in June, Manoah was rocked for 11 earned runs over 2 2/3 innings in his first start in the Florida Complex League last week. The Blue Jays obviously felt confident enough in him to send him up to Double-A for a Sunday start so that's somewhat encouraging. He's got a lot to work on before he's ready to rejoin the major league rotation but a strong start on Sunday would be a huge step in the right direction. The fantasy baseball community will be keeping close tabs on Manoah's start.

Wed Jun 28 202322:13Blue Jays Expect Alek Manoah To Pitch In Big Leagues Again This Year
Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said he "absolutely" expects right-hander Alek Manoah to pitch in the big leagues again this season. Manoah has a bullpen session coming up on Friday, after which the team will determine where he will pitch next. It's hard to imagine right now after the 25-year-old coughed up a whopping 11 runs on 10 hits (two homers) while walking two and fanning three in 2 2/3 innings in his first start in the minors in the Florida Complex League since being sent down. Despite the forgettable outing, the Blue Jays remain encouraged by what Manoah is working on. Still, a lot of fantasy managers have moved on in single-year leagues, and he's currently rostered in 52% of Yahoo leagues. It's been a hard fall for a pitcher that finished third in American League Cy Young voting just last year.

Tue Jun 27 202314:52Alek Manoah Shelled In Florida Complex League Start
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah was rocked in his first Florida Complex League start against the Yankees on Tuesday afternoon. The struggling right-hander surrendered a whopping 11 earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings of work while yielding 10 hits, including two homers, and two walks in that time. It's obviously a disastrous return to the mound for the 25-year-old who pitched to a 6.36 ERA, 5.92 SIERA, and a minuscule 2.1% K-BB% across 13 starts for the Blue Jays this season. While Manoah pitched to a 2.24 ERA and was named an AL Cy Young finalist last season, he also sported a 3.85 SIERA that suggested he was not nearly as good as his surface ERA suggested. The Blue Jays will surely exercise patience with their young starter.

Tue Jun 20 202312:15Alek Manoah Set For Another Sim Game Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah threw a 75-pitch simulated game last Friday at the Florida Complex League, and he will throw another simulated game of at least 75 pitches on Wednesday as he continues to set the foundation for his comeback. If all goes well, Manoah will progress to a live minor-league game five days later, with Single-A Dunedin being the most likely option. Reports on the 25-year-old have been positive so far as he looks to rebound from a disastrous start in 2023 in the big leagues, as he had gone 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA (6.52 FIP), 1.89 WHIP and a league-leading 42 walks in 58 innings over his 13 starts. Savvy fantasy managers may want to swoop Manoah up in leagues where he was dropped when he gets closer to returning to Toronto's rotation.

Thu Jun 15 202312:00Alek Manoah To Throw Sim Game Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah will throw a simulated game on Thursday in Dunedin, Florida, and he's aiming to throw around five innings. Manoah will be facing Blue Jays players with the team's rookie Florida Complex League team in what will be a controlled environment. Toronto sent Manoah to the lower minor leagues after he produced a 6.36 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and an MLB-leading 42 walks in 58 innings over his first 13 starts of the year, but he's already showing encouraging signs as he works on his mechanics. There's no timetable for when the 25-year-old right-hander will return to the Blue Jays' rotation, and they'll likely want to see him face hitters in the upper levels of the minors first.

Wed Jun 14 202316:17Alek Manoah Making Progress In Minors
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that starting pitcher Alek Manoah has made encouraging progress in the Florida Complex League just a week after being sent down to the minors. After going 1-7 with a rough 6.36 ERA (6.52 FIP), 1.89 WHIP, a league-leading 42 walks and 48 strikeouts in 58 innings over his first 13 starts, the Blue Jays sent the 2022 All-Star to the rookie league so that he could work on his mechanics. The 25-year-old right-hander has yet to pitch in a game, but he's expected to face live hitters at some point this week. We'll continue to keep track of his progress once he begins pitching in minor-league games. Manoah will eventually be back in Toronto, but he's currently rostered in only 54 percent of Yahoo leagues after his demotion.

Tue Jun 6 202316:01Blue Jays Send Struggling Alek Manoah Down
The Toronto Blue Jays optioned right-hander Alek Manoah to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday. In corresponding moves, the team also reinstated right-hander Chris Bassitt from the paternity list, reinstated infielder Santiago Espinal (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list, selected right-hander Bowden Francis' contract from the minors, optioned right-hander Jay Jackson and infielder Ernie Clement to Triple-A Buffalo and designated right-hander Zach Thompson for assignment. Manoah has been a disaster in 2023, as he's gone 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA (6.52 FIP), 1.89 WHIP, a league-leading 42 walks and 48 K's in 58 innings over his 13 starts. He'll have to rework his mechanics on the farm, and it could take some time before Toronto gives him another chance in their rotation, so fantasy managers with more pressing needs shouldn't feel compelled to hang onto him.

Mon Jun 5 202322:28Alek Manoah Bottomed Out By Six-Run Ambush
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah couldn't get through the first inning against the Houston Astros on Monday. The 25-year-old surrendered six runs on seven hits and one walk in one-third of a frame. Manoah took his seventh loss of the year and now displays a disfigured 6.36 ERA and 1.90 WHIP. It's a rock-bottom scenario for the 2022 All-Star, who's almost certainly been fantasy's biggest redraft bust of 2023. Fantasy managers may have a tough time pulling the drop trigger after Monday's fiasco, but Manoah should probably be on benches if he wasn't before this one already. The big right-hander will attempt to salvage what is swiftly spiraling into a lost season in a dangerous spot versus Joe Ryan and the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

Fri May 26 202309:49Alek Manoah Can't Fix His Command Issues Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah had another rough outing on Thursday when his team lost 6-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays. The 25-year went just three innings striking out six but walked five and gave up five runs (four earned) on three hits. The outing brought Manoah's ERA to 5.53, and he's also sporting a disastrous 1.79 WHIP, 18.0% strikeout rate and 14.9% walk rate over 53.2 innings. The 2022 Cy Young finalist has been one of the worst starting pitchers in all of baseball, and if he can't figure things out soon, he'll be one of the biggest busts of 2023.

Tue May 16 202300:30Alek Manoah Walks Seven Monday
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah turned in another poor performance in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Yankees. The 25-year-old pitched four innings, allowing five runs on six hits (including two home runs) and seven walks with three strikeouts. He has gotten off to an awful start to the season, going 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA, 7.00 K/9 rate, and 6.40 BB/9 rate in nine starts. His velocity has not been much lower than last season, but his command has been the real issue. While fantasy managers likely invested highly in him, they should really sit him in his next start against the Orioles. Ideally, they can sit him longer until he shows signs of figuring things out.

Tue Apr 11 202308:48Alek Manoah Set To Make His Third Start Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah will make his third start of the season Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. He'll look to improve his numbers while facing a poor offense, as he's posted a 4.35 ERA so far with eight punchouts and six walks across 10.1 innings. Manoah was a Cy Young finalist in 2022, where he pitched to a 2.24 ERA with 16 wins, though his 22.9% strikeout rate and 3.97 xFIP had some fantasy managers avoiding him in drafts over the offseason. The 25-year-old is a decent pitcher in any format, even if he doesn't replicate 2022's stats, and is a must-start against Detroit.

Thu Apr 6 202309:34Alek Manoah Tosses Seven Scoreless Innings In Wednesday's Win
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah (1-0) allowed one hit and four walks while striking out five across seven scoreless innings in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals. He bounced back on Wednesday after getting shelled for five runs in his previous start. The 25-year-old walked too many batters but finished the game strong by retiring the last eight hitters he faced. He owns a 4.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and an 8:6 K: BB ratio over two starts. Manoah will look to be more efficient in his next start Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers.

Fri Feb 24 202315:28Alek Manoah Has Contract Renewed
The Toronto Blue Jays have renewed starting pitcher Alek Manoah's contract. He'll earn $745,650 in 2023, according to an industry source. The MLB minimum this year is $720,000. Manoah took a renewal last year as well and made $706,200 rather than accepting the team's scale-based raise. The 25-year-old right-hander finished third in the American League Cy Young voting last year, going 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA (3.35 FIP), 0.99 WHIP and 22.9 percent strikeout rate in 31 starts in just his second big-league season with Toronto. His strikeout rate dropped a bit in 2022, but fantasy managers really weren't complaining. Manoah's fantasy arrow is pointed firmly upwards as he attempts to back up his excellent performance last year with an encore in 2023.

Sat Oct 8 202210:32Alek Manoah Gives Up Four Runs To Mariners
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah's Friday playoff debut started poorly when he allowed three runs in the first inning against the Seattle Mariners. He was able to settle in afterwards but still took the loss, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings while striking out four and walking one during the 4-1 contest. Manoah was a top starting pitcher this season, posting a 2.24 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 22.9% strikeout rate, and 16-7 record across 31 starts. The right-hander should get the ball for game one or two of the American League Division Series if the Jays make it to the next round.

Wed Oct 5 202211:29Alek Manoah To Start Game 1 Against Mariners
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah has been named the Game 1 starter for the wild-card series against the Seattle Mariners on Friday. The 24-year-old All-Star is fifth in the majors this year with 196 2/3 innings pitched in his second MLB season, and he's gone 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA (3.34 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP, 180 strikeouts and 51 walks in his 31 starts for Toronto. In his final six starts of the regular season, he allowed just four earned runs on 23 hits while walking 12 and fanning 33 batters in 41 innings. Manoah made just one start against the Mariners this year and had success, giving up two earned runs on three hits while walking four and striking out seven in 7 1/3 frames, although he was ultimately hit with a loss.

Tue Sep 13 202216:38Alek Manoah Cleared To Start Game 2 Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (illness) has recovered from his stomach bug and won't have any restrictions when he starts Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Manoah was originally scheduled to start Game 1, but he was scratched due to a stomach bug. The 24-year-old right-hander will still be a little more risky in this one, but he should be started in the majority of fantasy formats. The first-time All-Star has gone 14-7 for the Blue Jays this year with a 2.42 ERA (3.30 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP, 158 strikeouts and 41 walks in 171 innings over 27 starts. He hasn't allowed more than one earned run in any of his last four starts against the Orioles, Pirates, Angels and Yankees.

Tue Sep 13 202212:02Alek Manoah Scratched From Game 1 Start
Toronto Blue Jays interim manager John Schneider said that starting pitcher Alek Manoah (illness) was scratched from his start in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays because he's fighting a stomach bug. Manoah is currently hydrating, and the team hopes he can recover enough to start in Game 2. Reliever Julian Merryweather is now listed as the starter for Game 1, but he'll likely only go an inning or two before making way for a bulk arm in the first game. Manoah, a first-time All-Star this year, has gone 14-7 with a 2.42 ERA (3.30 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP and a 158:41 K:BB over 171 innings and 27 starts. As long as he makes his the start in Game 2 he should be started in most fantasy formats, but he'll carry a little more risk.

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (elbow), who took a comebacker off his elbow during Friday's start against the Tigers, is "feeling better," according to interim manager John Schneider. Manoah received X-rays on his elbow, which came back negative. The hard-throwing right-hander has been diagnosed with a contusion and will get a few days off before throwing on the side. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now and monitor his status early next week.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah left his Friday start against the Detroit Tigers after he was hit on his right elbow by a comebacker off the bat of Jonathan Schoop. Manoah appeared to be in a good deal of pain as he was departing during the sixth inning. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking one before leaving. Manoah is putting together a breakout season, posting an 11-4 record, 2.43 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 114 strikeouts over 126 innings of work. Look for Toronto to update his status after Friday's game.
