Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah earned his 10th victory of the season with a stellar effort against the Kansas City Royals Friday. Tue Jun 7 202210:03Alek Manoah Set To Face Royals Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah will be the starter on Tuesday night as the Blue Jays continue their series in Kansas City against the Royals. A matchup against the Royals should be a favorable matchup for Manoah, who despite being one of the best starting pitchers in baseball, is susceptible to giving up home runs on his fastball. So far this season, the Royals are 28th in the MLB in home runs (34) and 28th in the league in slugging percentage (.356). Only the Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers have been worse at hitting for power through the first two months.

Sun Apr 3 202211:01Alek Manoah Prioritizing Changeup For 2022
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah exceeded all expectations in his rookie season in 2021. Over 20 starts, he went 9-2 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.05 WHIP while averaging 10.2 K/9. His peripheral stats mostly backed up his strong surface numbers. He had a 3.30 xERA and he limited batters to a 31.2% hard-hit rate, which ranked him in the 93rd percentile. Going into 2022, Manoah is looking to improve his changeup to bolster his arsenal. He recently told MLB.com, that "the development of the changeup and mixing everything in" was a focus of his. He stated that he wanted to "keep hitters off balance the whole year." Last year, his two best pitches were his four-seam fastball and slider, which he threw 36.2% of the time and 27.8% of the time, respectively. His changeup, however, he only threw 9.4% of the time and it generated a whiff rate of just 13.0%. He is currently ranked as the 24th overall pitcher by RotoBaller. He's a great target at that point with upside to build on his strong rookie campaign.

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah improved his record to 7-2 on the season on Tuesday as his club defeated the Rays 4-2. Manoah punched out seven on the night to give him 109 K in 99 IP this season to go along with a sharp 3.36 ERA and 1.08 in his first 18 big-league starts. He'll have a chance to improve upon his excellent rookie campaign in his next outing this weekend versus the Twins.

The rookie needed just 97 pitches to fire eight-scoreless frames for his sixth win of the season as he allowed just one hit and no walks in the effort. Manoah lowered his respective ERA and WHIP marks to 3.39 and 1.03 while driving his K/BB to 102/31 through 93 IP in his first big-league season. Sat Sep 4 202109:52Alek Manoah Gives Up Six Runs To Athletics
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah wasn't at his sharpest on Friday, allowing six earned runs over five innings in what ended up as a no-decision in the club's 11-10 walk-off win. The right-hander was a bit wild in this one by hitting a pair of batters while walking three with five hits allowed to just two strikeouts. Manoah has had a couple of blow-up outings like this of late, but he still holds a respectable 3.63 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through his first 79 1/3 innings of his career. The future is very bright for the 23-year-old, but the league has started to adjust to his pitching which could dampen his finish to the 2021 season. Managers in tight championship races may want to sit Manoah since he will face the Yankees in the Bronx next week.

Mon Aug 23 202122:54Alek Manoah Allows One Run Versus White Sox
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah was sharp in Monday's contest, allowing one run over six frames in the team's 2-1 win over the White Sox. The rookie was unfortunately stuck with a no-decision in this one as he surrendered five hits and three walks while striking out five in the 108-pitch effort. It was a nice bounce-back game for Manoah who had his worst start of his young career last week at the hands of the Nationals, so it was a positive to see him handle a formidable lineup like the White Sox. He'll take a crisp 3.18 ERA and 1.10 WHIP into his next start against the Detroit Tigers on the road.

Growing pains are to be expected with rookie pitchers and Manoah is no different as he looks ahead to his next start versus the White Sox next week.
