Wed May 11 201123:11Lannan takes a no-decision in 11-inning win
John Lannan allowed five hits and two runs in six innings of work on Wednesday, taking a no-decision in Washington's 7-3, 11-inning win over the Braves.
He struck out three and walked three, and allowed zero home runs for only the second time in five starts. Through 41 1/3 innings of work, Lannan now owns a 22/18 K/BB ratio, not a compelling number for a player that needs to be posting a rock solid ERA to have any value in deeper mixed leagues.

Thu May 5 201122:29John Lannan blasted by Phils
John Lannan was knocked around by the Phillies Thursday, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk over just two innings of work.
With little ability to miss bats, Lannan is walking into the danger zone anytime he starts in a hitter's park against a good lineup. He wasn't hitting his spots tonight, and when he's not doing that, he's going to get killed. The left-hander fell to 2-4 while watching his ERA rise to 5.09 and WHIP to 1.64. He'll try to bounce back next week against the Braves.

Sat Apr 30 201119:22Lannan takes loss vs. Giants
John Lannan yielded two runs over 6 2/3 innings in Saturday's loss to the Giants.
It was his longest outing of the season. The southpaw was pulled from the game after walking Aubrey Huff with the bases loaded, which forced in the go-ahead and eventual winning run. Lannan now has a 3.77 ERA over his first six starts this season, though his 16/11 K/BB ratio isn't nearly as impressive. He's a decent NL-only option.

Wed Apr 20 201119:45Lannan plans to start on three days' rest
Though the Nationals haven't officially made a decision yet, John Lannan is preparing to start Sunday on three days' rest.
"Right now," Lannan said, "I'm mentally getting ready for that start." Lannan threw 101 pitches in just five innings in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, but manager Jim Riggleman said he's not really worried about the lefty's pitch count. "We'll analyze that as we go," Riggleman said. "The number of pitches is not that big a deal. We'll kind of look at that in the next couple of days, see how he's feeling. We don't have to make the decision quite yet."

Thu Apr 7 201123:01John Lannan has so-so outing
John Lannan allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings and left with a no-decision in Thursday's 5-3 extra innings win over the Marlins.
He struck out four in what was a pretty typical Lannan outing. The left-hander should be able to give the Nationals fairly steady innings this season, but his upside is extremely limited. Lannan will go up against the Phillies the next time he trots to the hill.

Sat Apr 2 201118:05Lannan earns win against Braves
John Lannan tossed five innings of one-run ball in a win over the Braves on Saturday.
Lannan stuck around after the rain/hail delay and qualified for the win. The southpaw held the Braves to five hits against three strikeouts and a walk. Lannan should chew up some innings for the Nationals this season -- and he was much better after returning from a demotion last season -- but the lack of strikeouts leave him a mediocre option in NL-only leagues.

Tue Mar 22 201115:56Nats' Lannan goes six strong in win
John Lannan allowed just one run and two hits over six innings Tuesday in a victory over the Astros.
Lannan probably couldn't have lost his rotation spot this spring, but he was starting to put it to the test, as he entered with a 7.36 ERA. This gets him back down to 4.73. Both hits off him today were singles, and he walked only one.

Sat Mar 12 201116:15Nats' Lannan gives up four runs
John Lannan was tagged for four runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Yankees on Saturday.
Lannan walked three and gave up a two-run homer to minor league veteran Jorge Vazquez. The shaky performance took Lannan's ERA up to 7.36. He finished strong enough last year to secure his rotation spot headed into spring training, but the Nationals may not show as much patience with him as they did last year.

Mon Jan 17 201115:06Nats reach pre-arb. deal with John Lannan
Nationals and LHP John Lannan avoided arbitration Monday by agreeing to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.
Lannan was eligible for arbitration for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old did pretty well for himself and could climb close to $4 million if he continues to roll like he did in the second half of the 2010 season. He posted a 3.44 ERA over his last 11 starts and racked up six wins after the All-Star break. The Nats have only a couple more arbitration situations.

Mon Sep 27 201021:55Lannan struggles in loss to Phils
John Lannan permitted four runs over 5 1/3 innings in Monday's loss to the Phillies.
He gave up seven hits, walked and hit a batter and struck out three. After a horrible start, Lannan has rebounded with a nice second half, posting a 3.44 ERA over 11 starts. He's locked into a starting job for the Nats next season after losing a rotation spot earlier this year. He faces the Mets over the weekend in his last start of the year.
Wed Sep 15 201015:14Nationals' Lannan defeats Braves
John Lannan held the Braves to two runs over six innings Wednesday to win for the sixth time in eight starts.
Lannan has allowed three runs or fewer in eight of his nine outings since returning to the majors and lowered his ERA from 5.76 to 4.61 in the process. It helps that he's started to miss some bats. He's fanned seven, six and six batters in his last three starts. In 2006, he reached six strikeouts just four times in 33 starts.
Fri Sep 10 201022:16Lannan solid again but takes loss
John Lannan limited the Marlins to three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings on Friday night but took a loss.
Lannan's late-season surge continues despite the defeat. He's 5-2 in his last seven starts and has given up three earned runs or less in six of those outings. The southpaw is an NL-only asset right now and even has 13 strikeouts in his last two starts.
Thu Aug 19 201016:42Nats' Lannan defeats Braves
John Lannan pitched 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball Thursday in a victory over the Braves.
Knowing that Lannan has had a reverse platoon split in his career, the Braves stuck with Brian McCann behind the plate and went with fellow lefty Eric Hinske at first base today. However, those two combined to go 0-for-7 in the game. Lannan allowed seven hits, but only Matt Diaz's two-run double did any damage. With four solid starts in a row under his belt, he seems safe enough to use in NL-only leagues.
Fri Aug 13 201021:46Lannan gets another win
John Lannan earned his second consecutive win by limiting the Diamondbacks to two earned runs over seven innings on Friday night.
Lannan, who came back from a stint in the minors on August 1, has his season turned around. He struck out five while walking just one tonight and now has allowed exactly two earned runs in each of his three starts since being recalled. He's on the radar in NL-only formats with the Braves up next.
Sat Aug 7 201001:16Nationals' Lannan wins in return
John Lannan beat the Dodgers in his return to the majors by allowing three runs -- two earned -- in six innings Friday.
Lannan got the job done tonight, but the Dodgers really aren't the greatest test right now. We wouldn't rush to pick him back up in an NL-only league.
Sun Aug 1 201017:27Nationals recall Lannan for Sunday start
Nationals recalled LHP John Lannan from Double-A Harrisburg.
Lannan started on Sunday against the Phillies. Lannan was sent to the minors in June after posting an ugly 5.76 ERA and 24/35 K/BB ratio and produced only a 4.20 ERA over seven starts with Double-A Harrisburg. For now, he isn't to be used in fantasy.
Fri Jul 30 201008:55Lannan to re-join rotation Sunday
John Lannan will be called up from the minors to take Stephen Strasburg's place in the starting rotation against the Phillies on Sunday.
It's like the past few months have been a dream or something. Lannan was sent to the minors in June after posting an ugly 5.76 ERA and an even uglier 24/35 K/BB ratio. He wasn't all that great during his time with Double-A Harrisburg, either, putting up a 4.20 ERA over seven starts, but at least his 28/10 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings is a bit easier to swallow. While he'll likely be better in his return to the big leagues, that's probably not saying much.

Thu Jul 15 201013:36Lannan improving in Double-A
John Lannan allowed two runs over six innings in his most his recent start with Double-A Harrisburg on Saturday.
"John did very well in his last outing," said Harrisburg pitching coach Randy Tomlin. "He needed to spot the ball more consistently and he did that. He is feeling really good about himself and the adjustments he has made. He is getting back to the fundamentals that made him who he is." Lannan is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA over four starts since being sent to the minor leagues last month, compiling a 16/5 K/BB ratio in 26 innings. The Nationals probably aren't far from calling him back up, but he shouldn't be on your radar in NL-only leagues until he can regain his command on the major league level.

Fri Jun 25 201022:57Lannan impressive in Double-A start
John Lannan allowed one run over seven innings in his first start with Double-A Harrisburg on Friday night.
An unearned run was later charged to an earned run by the official scorer. Lannan gave up three hits while striking out five and walking just one. 10 of the 11 outs were recorded via the groundball. With a couple more outings like this, the Nationals will likely call him right back up, though we weren't crazy about him as a fantasy asset even before his struggles.

Mon Jun 21 201015:56Nats option John Lannan to AAA Syracuse
Nationals optioned LHP John Lannan to Triple-A Syracuse.
Lannan got a vote of confidence from Nats manager Jim Riggleman on Sunday night, but the club must have had a change of heart overnight. The left-handed Lannan had allowed a total of 17 runs in his last three starts. He will try to figure some things out down on the farm.
