Thu Mar 13 2014 | 18:23 | Reds hoping to have Marshall in early April |
Reds manager Bryan Price is hoping that Sean Marshall (shoulder) will be ready to join the bullpen "within that first week or two of the regular season." |
Marshall has been limited to flat ground throwing after having a setback last week with his shoulder tendinitis. He could resume throwing off a mound on Friday, but that's not certain. "We're real happy with how he's rebounded after a few days off," Price said. "After re-initiating his throwing program, he hasn't had any setbacks, and he feels really good. He's definitely behind schedule, but if we don't have any setbacks and we're optimistic, he'll be ready at least within that first week or two of the regular season." |

Reds manager Bryan Price said Tuesday that Sean Marshall (shoulder) is "a couple of days" away from a bullpen session. |
Marshall has been dealing with left shoulder tendinitis this spring after battling through shoulder issues for most of last season. Price indicated that it's probably unlikely the lefty will be ready for Opening Day. "He's feeling great but with his history and the shoulder from last year and not feeling great here early in camp, we are going to go on the ultra-conservative side and just make sure he does everything in his throwing protocol to verify that he's feeling great and then get him back on the mound," Price said. |

Sat Mar 1 2014 | 20:05 | Reds being extra cautious with Sean Marshall |
The Reds are being extra cautious with Sean Marshall (shoulder) this spring. |
"He's just a little stiff," Reds manager Bryan Price said on Saturday. "We're going to be on the front end of this thing. We're going to back him off. He doesn't need a full Spring Training to be ready for Opening Day. He did all of his offseason throwing. Slowing him down a little bit here, hopefully, will pay dividends later in the spring." The left-hander was plagued by shoulder issues most of 2013, and the Reds are hoping to avoid a repeat this year. Marshall has yet to appear in a game for the Reds this spring. |

Sean Marshall has been sidetracked in his return from a shoulder injury. |
The southpaw has been sidelined since late May with a sprained left shoulder and currently resides on the 60-day disabled list. Marshall was set to head out on a rehab assignment after the All-Star break, but he felt pain in his shoulder during a batting practice session. "We don't think it's consistent with his original injury," pitching coach Bryan Price said. "It's more of a tweak. He can't progress if he's feeling soreness. I think he's still strong. Hopefully, he'll be able to start his throwing program soon, so he doesn't fall out of throwing shape." |
